Time to Accept Messianic Jews?

Israelis Ask: Time to Accept Messianic Jews?

Friday, November 22, 2013 |  Israel Today Staff
At least two Israeli news agencies on Thursday ran the same story wondering whether it was time for the mainstream Jewish community to finally accept Messianic Jews as a legitimate and vital part of the tribe.
The article by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) highlighted former US President George W. Bush's recent keynote address at the annual conference of the Messianic Jewish Bible Institute in Dallas.
Mainstream American Jewish groups were incredulous that Bush would provide such legitimacy to a movement they view as a deceitful ploy to convert Jews away from Judaism.
But Messianic Jewish leaders told the JTA that while the "gatekeepers" of mainstream Judaism are often "overzealous" in their approach to Jewish believers in Yeshua (Jesus), most average Jews are welcoming.
Indeed, Israel Today has noticed much the same in our reporting from the Jewish state over the past decade. As mainstream Orthodox Jewish leaders become more vocal in their opposition to the Messianic community, mainstream Israeli society has actually become far more accepting.
Two years ago, Israel's government-controlled Channel One News broadcast a special segment that harshly criticized anti-missionary Orthodox groups for harassing Messianic Jews.

Shabbat Inspiration

This week's Torah portion (Genesis 37-39) describes
Joseph tending to his sheep. It is no coincidence that
so many of our Biblical heroes were shepherds. The
simple profession was ideal for two reasons.

On the one hand, the abundance of time for quiet reflection
and meditation allowed the shepherd to develop an
intimate relationship with the Lord. Additionally,
shepherds who excelled in their work acquired a deep
sensitivity to the needs of each and every sheep in
his flock.

What he learned as a young shepherd
influenced Joseph to become a paradigm for all future
generations in the service of God and the service
of man.

Do Jews Celebrate Thanksgiving?

As a Jew, I am thankful that when America was discovered,
America discovered the Bible. This year’s once in a lifetime
convergence of Thanksgiving and Hannukah has not only
given us the cute name ‘Thanksgivukah’, but focused
attention on Judaism’s encounter with the great
American holiday.

With YOUR support The Christmas Candle will reach millions of people
across America. Together, we can bring a light to our nation this
Christmas season!

Deep in the heart of the English countryside lies the enchanting village
of Gladbury. Legend has it every 25 years an angel visits the village
candlemaker and touches a single candle. Whoever lights this candle
receives a miracle on Christmas Eve. But in 1890, at the dawn of the
electric age, this centuries old legend may come to an end.

When David Richmond (Hans Matheson), a progressive young minister,
arrives in Gladbury, the villagers discover a new formula for miracles:
good deeds and acts of kindness. While David's quest to modernize
Gladbury sets him at odds with the old world candlemaker, he finds
an unlikely ally in the lovely skeptic, Emily Barstow (Samantha Barks).
Now, the fiery candlemaker must fight to preserve the legacy of the
Christmas Candle. But when the candle goes missing, the miraculous
and human collide in the most astonishing Christmas the village of
Gladbury has ever seen.

ABOUT ISIK ABLA

Isık Abla was born in Turkey. She was raised—and physically abused—in a Muslim home, only to escape into even deadlier abuse by a man she married.
Isık entered college when she was only sixteen and earned a bachelor’s degree in literature, followed by an advanced business degree. She worked in high-ranking executive positions for some of the largest corporations in Turkey and traveled extensively throughout Europe.
In 1996, she fled to America for her life from a violent husband. After years of struggle to start her career all over again in a foreign country and failing in many areas of her personal life, Isık went into intense depression.
She had a personal encounter with God on the day she was planning her suicide. That day, she received the supernatural healing and redemption of Jesus Christ.
From that moment on, her life remarkably changed  for the better. More doors were opened, and she was given a position as CFO, then as CEO, of North American operations for a European corporation. In the meantime, Isık served in many capacities as a minister of the Gospel and as an evangelist and public speaker. Isık started her second college to study Computer Science. After a while, she realized that God was calling her into full time ministry. She left college and went to Ambassador's Commission School of Ministry. Soon after her graduation, she became an ordained minister by WBWF.
In 2009, Isık began hosting a satellite TV program called Light for the Heart on the Kanal Hayat Turkish-language channel. After receiving tremendous response, two years later, Isık added a live call-in program that is simulcast on the Turkish and Farsi channels throughout the Middle East and Europe. These TV programs now deliver the message of love, healing, and freedom through Christ Jesus, reflecting on her own life experience.

“Birthdays” - Ahava Love Letter (Steve Martin)

                “Birthdays”

“Let me tell you what God said next. He said, "You're my son, and today is your birthday. What do you want? Name it: Nations as a present? Continents as a prize?”
(Psalm 2:7-8 from THE MESSAGE)

Dear family of friends,

Celebrating a birthday each year can be a great time for family and friends to gather together and bless. Bless the one whom the Lord has given another year to share his or her life with us. What fun!

I love birthdays. Even the many ones that come past 29 - which some seem to forget what their math grade school teacher taught them when it comes to the next number! Just having that special day that YOU are given notice to in a unique way is great. What a joy that is! I know it gives our Father tremendous joy, as He continually gives life to new and old.

The verse I shared with this Ahava Love Letter certainly reads different in The Message than in the New American Standard Bible I normally read, or even the Complete Jewish Bible which I like to also meditate on. Here the Lord God is asking if this person wants the nations as a present, and the continents as a prize? Can you imagine One that big, being able to give you this? I love the WalMart and the Movies 10 ($2 shows!) gift cards, but to be asked if you want a nation as a present? How awesome is that???!!

Love for His people – that ahava (Hebrew) love that Yeshua (Jesus) can only put in your heart, makes my heart burst with emotion when I dwell on this. Having a godly compassion and desire to see the peoples, the tribes and nations come to know Him as the Savior He is, has become the one motivating factor in my life that really drives me to push forward for another year. Being persistent in doing the daily stuff, to get you further along the path you are on in fulfilling your destiny, is enough for me, as each birthday comes again.

Being grateful to parents, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, relatives, longtime friends, and work family, for the love they express on your special day, is certainly a special treat. Much appreciation is to be given for those who do express their love to you.

Amazement for the Lord’s gift to us – for life itself – and then for blessing us with opportunities, open doors, and expanded relationships in other nations, is also a great thing to behold and to give thanks for. This year, and every year while I am still on this planet, I am rejoicing in the fact that our Messiah and King is offering you and I the nations as a gift, as a prize for enduring the race He has set before each of us, as we press on in His purposes and realize His promises.

Make your birthday milestones count each year. Keep the flame of love for His people and all the nations in your heart – to bless, curse not, and see His Kingdom come.

I know I am!

Ahava to my family of friends,

Steve Martin
