CBN News from Jerusalem: Potential Economic Sanctions Really Anti-Semitism

Potential Economic Sanctions Really Anti-Semitism

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- On January 1, the European Union could punish a Middle East country with sanctions. No, it's not over nuclear weapons in Iran; the E.U.'s target is Israel.
New economic guidelines would prohibit money going from E.U. member nations to Israeli communities beyond what's called the green line, also known as the West Bank.
In order to receive funding, a private Israeli entity must prove it has no ties to the West Bank (Judea and Samaria), the Golan Heights and east Jerusalem. The economic impact could run into the millions.
Some believe the move is part of a growing anti-Semitism moving across Europe.
Those new E.U. guidelines are being established here in Brussels, Belgium, at the European parliament. They represent a major economic challenge to Israel and could predetermine the borders of a future Palestinian state.
Tomas Sandell, with the European Coalition for Israel told CBN News these guidelines "basically restrict any type of cooperation, financial cooperation between Europe and these disputed territories."
"And it's more complicated than you would think because even if you would have one particular university wanting to engage in a multi-million program with the E.U., if you happen to have one professor say living in east Jerusalem it would be impossible with these new guidelines," Sandell explained.
Andrew Tucker, executive director of Christians for Israel International says the guidelines put Europe in the position of creating a Jew-free state."
"But I think the thing that concerns us most is the signal that it's giving," Tucker told CBN News. "And we're concerned that Europe is on the slippery slope toward forcing the creation of a Palestinian state and it will be a Palestinian state where Jews will not be welcome."
Tucker and others feel this "slippery slope" would pressure Israel to create a future Palestinian state based on the so-called 1967 borders, divide Jerusalem and make it illegal for Jews to live there.
"There's nothing in the guidelines to say that Jews are not allowed to live in a new Palestinian state but we would see it as part of a broader project whereby Europe is saying all Israeli settlements are illegal, which means any Jew living in so called eastern Jerusalem -- and you know it better than I do -- this is heart of Jewish Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria -- is illegal," Tucker told CBN News. "Once you buy into that, then it's a question of taking and implementing administrative steps to make it a reality and the guidelines is just one example."
Israel and the E.U. did sign an economic agreement recently called "Horizon 2020," but the financial restrictions remain in place for the disputed territories. Israel's representative to the European Union feels that hurts both Israelis and Palestinians.

David Saranga, head of the E.U.'s Parliament Liaison Department, said it will also hurt Palestinian residents.
"At the end of the day, we're talking about the territories behind the 67 borders. It means settlements, but it also means Palestinians living around these settlements are not going to benefit."
It reminds Sandell of the anti-Semitism spawned in Europe during the 1930s.
"For me this is anti-Semitism 2.0.  It's more sophisticated, but it's very effective in terms of demonizing Jews, demonizing the Jewish state and making life difficult in particular for those who would want to live in these disputed territories," Sandell said. "I know many people will be upset for hearing me saying this, but I do see similarities. Then they simply said 'don't buy from Jews.' Today, it's boycott Israel."

Wound Up in Fear or Stirred Up in Faith by Elaine Tavolacci - Identity Network

Wound Up in Fear or Stirred Up in Faith by Elaine Tavolacci

By Elaine Tavolacci

The Holy Spirit brought me back to a prophetic word that I shared a few years ago. He showed me a picture of a multitude of people with wind up keys on their backs walking around like wind up dolls. Each person was walking in a different direction. Some people were walking to and fro wandering aimlessly without hope and some were being swayed in the wrong direction. Some were lagging behind while others appeared to be in a trance of fear.

There were some walking in a circular motion not realizing that they weren't going anywhere, just like a hamster running around on a wheel.

But then I saw those who were marching with determination knowing exactly what their destination was as they were trusting Jesus. They marched on with courage and confidence. They had fire in their eyes and the Word of God in their mouths. They stood upright, they were bold and radical in their faith, and they were steadfast in what they believed.

They seemed to have a protective shield around them as every fiery dart that came against them was extinguished. They were not swayed by adverse circumstances or bad reports, but they stood on the word of God.

I asked The Lord what this meant and this is what He showed me. Every person in the universe is walking around wound up in different situations. Some people are wound up in worries, some are wound up in confusion, some are caught up in the love of money and many are wound up in fear. But then there is the remnant who are stirred up in faith, stirred up in joy, and they continue to stir themselves up spiritually by praying in the Spirit.

Let Me Release You

The Lord says, allow Me to unwind you from the pressures that so easily beset you. Do not fear this dilemma that seems to be too large for you to handle in the natural, and allow Me to release you from the tormenting anxiety and confusion in your mind. Trust in Me to provide all your needs in every area. Allow Me to remove the burdens from your heart as you are entangled in complicated situations.

Those of you who are fatigued from the cares and the weights of the world, come and rest in Me and I will restore your energy and I will revive your stamina. Take your eyes off the circumstances around you and allow Me to direct your path. Trust in Me when all else fails. Don't allow worry or fear to overtake you. I will release you from this distress as you position yourself and come into the secret place of My presence. Be bold and be strong, as you follow My leading. I will stir up and resurrect those dreams that have faded away through discouragement.

As you trust in Me you will gain the tenacity to be steadfast once again and pursue the plans that you have been contending for. You will once again gain the endurance to run the race as you have desired. Keep your focus on My Word and don't look at things in the natural. Everything in the natural is subject to change.

I am the God of restoration and nothing is impossible with Me. As you stay steadfast in these trying times, you will come forth as gold. I Am your deliverer, I Am the God of your destiny and I Am with you in the fire of affliction. Although it may look like the waves of adversity are pulling you in a vortex, fear not.

Rejoice and know that this too will come to pass and know that I will bring you in to My plans and purposes for your life. As you trust Me, that very thing that is coming against you will be your greatest testimony. Stir yourself up once again, and I will bring you out stronger as you endure and put your trust in Me says the Lord.

1 Samuel 30:6 Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

1 Peter 4:12-13 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.

Jude 1:20-21 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Why Are So Many Pastors Committing Suicide?

In another church tragedy, Pastor Isaac Hunter—the son of the spiritual adviser to President Obama—has reportedly taken his own life. Hunter’s death is making national headlines because of his megachurch father Pastor Joel Hunter’s influence on the White House, his marriage troubles and an undated suicide note found last year, but his death is far from the only pastoral suicide in recent months.
Just days ago, a pastor who was grieving his dead wife reportedly shot himself in front of his mother and son, expressing that he was hearing his dead spouse’s voice and footsteps. Pastor Ed Montgomery and his late wife, prophetess Jackie Montgomery, served at the Full Gospel Assemblies International church in Hazel Crest, Ill.
In November, a Georgia pastor killed himself in between Sunday services. Larrinecia Sims Parker, wife of the Rev. Teddy Parker Jr., found the pastor in the driveway of their home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Houston County coroner Danny Galpin reports.
Why the sudden rash of pastors committing suicide? Suicide is not a new problem among clergy, but three known suicides in less than two months begs a deeper look at the issue.
There is no lack of statistics about pastors and depression, burnout, health, low pay, spirituality, relationships and longevity—and none of them are good. According to the Schaeffer Institute, 70 percent of pastors constantly fight depression, and 71 percent are burned out. Meanwhile, 72 percent of pastors say they only study the Bible when they are preparing for sermons; 80 percent believe pastoral ministry has negatively affected their families; and 70 percent say they don’t have a close friend.
The Schaeffer Institute also reports that 80 percent of seminary and Bible school graduates will leave the ministry within five years. It’s not clear how many commit suicide, but it is clear that pastors are not immune to it. Psychologists point to several reasons why people commit suicide, from depression to psychosis to stressful life situations. But one thing is certain: Whatever drives someone to take their own life ultimately begins in the mind. Suicidal thoughts precede suicide.
Suicidal thoughts have numerous causes," according to Mayo Clinic. "Most often, suicidal thoughts are the result of feeling like you can’t cope when you’re faced with what seems to be an overwhelming life situation. If you don’t have hope for the future, you may mistakenly think suicide is a solution. You may experience a sort of tunnel vision, where in the middle of a crisis you believe suicide is the only way out.”
As it turns out, suicidal thoughts are not uncommon. Nearly 8.3 million adults age 18 and older in the United States—that’s 3.7 percent—had serious thoughts of suicide in the past year, according to a study called "Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors Among Adults > 18 Years" released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Although some suicides are impulsive, most are planned out. More than 2 million adult Americans made a suicide plan in the past year, and about half that many went through with the plan.
Again, suicide starts with a thought. Indeed, every action we take starts with a thought. As one who struggled with depression for years, I am not trying to oversimplify the solution, but rather merely point out one contributing factor. Many of the harmful actions we take originate from the seed of a thought Satan whispers to our souls. That seed grows as our minds reason out the benefits of acting on the thought. For those contemplating suicide, I believe the seed grows in their minds as they reason themselves out of living because life’s circumstances are too overwhelming.
When the enemy plants a vain imagination in our minds, we have two choices: cast it down or meditate on it. When we meditate on vain imaginations, we tend to connect demonic dots that create skewed pictures of reality. Believing what we see in our thought life is real, we talk ourselves into taking action based on a wrong perception. Although there are issues of chemical imbalances, I believe this is what happens with many suicides. The enemy plants a seed in the form of a thought that an already distraught soul doesn’t discern as a demonic attack on their life.
If we want to win the battle against suicide in the pulpit and the pew, we need to, among many other things, take ahold of Scriptures that instruct us about the battle in our mind. Paul told us, “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled” (2 Cor. 10:4-6). No one can take your thoughts captive for you, but you can take your own thoughts captive, and it starts with girding up the loins of your mind (1 Pet. 1:13).
Paul also offered this advice: “Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you” (Phil. 4:8-9). If we do what the Word says—if we meditate on what the Word tells us to meditate on—the enemy’s seeds won’t take root in our souls.
If you see your pastor or anyone else struggling with depression or hear them speak disturbing thoughts that aren’t in line with the Word of God, pray and ask God what He would have you do. Then do it. Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States, and the enemy is targeting our spiritual leaders in this hour. Let’s rise up and battle against this disturbing trend in the name of Jesus.

Strong rain, winds and snow storms are hitting the Middle East this week.  And snow is falling today in Jerusalem, the Golan and parts of the Galilee.

The grand scale of the fighting in Palestine is not fully recognized today even by historians, with attention often focused on the European front.  One statistic may put the fighting into perspective: The British army suffered more than half a million casualties; the Turks even more.

The Israel Daily Picture site has presented hundreds of pictures of the fighting between the British Imperial Forces and the Turkish and German forces on the battlefields of Sinai, Gaza, Be'er Sheva, and Jerusalem. Most of the photographs, such as those on this page, were found in the U.S. Library of Congress' American Colony collection.

According to the Imperial War Museum synopsis accompanying the film:

The General entered Jerusalem on 11 December, accompanied by his staff (T. E. Lawrence ["Lawrence of Arabia"] among them), French and Italian officers, and various other international representatives. At the Jaffa gate he was greeted by a guard of Commonwealth and Allied troops; dismounting, he and his comrades entered the city on foot, as instructed. Allenby had been less than fifteen minutes in the cityAfter 400 years of Ottoman rule, Jerusalem had passed into British hands..
