20th Largest Bank In The World: 2016 Will Be A ‘Cataclysmic Year’ And ‘Investors Should Be Afraid’ Posted: 12 Jan 2016   Michael Snyder  THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE blog The Royal Bank of Scotland is telling clients that 2016 is going to be a “cataclysmic year” and that they should “sell everything”.  This sounds like something that you might hear from The Economic Collapse Blog, but up until just recently you would have never expected to get this kind of message from one of the twenty largest banks on the entire planet.   Unfortunately, this is just another indication that a major global financial crisis has begun and that we are now entering a bear market.  The collective market value of companies listed on the S&P 500 has dropped by about a trillion dollars since the start of 2016, and panic is spreading like wildfire all over the globe.  And of course when the Royal Bank of Scotland comes out and openly says that “investors should be afraid” that certainly is not going to help matters. It amazes me that the Royal Bank of Scotland is essentially saying the exact same thing that I have been saying for months.  Just like I have been telling my readers, RBS has observed that global markets “are flashing the same stress alerts as they did before the Lehman crisis in 2008″… RBS has advised clients to brace for a “cataclysmic year” and a global deflationary crisis, warning that the major stock markets could fall by a fifth and oil may reach US$16 a barrel. The bank’s credit team said markets are flashing the same stress alerts as they did before the Lehman crisis in 2008. So what should our response be to these warning signs? According to RBS, the logical thing to do is to “sell everything” excerpt for high quality bonds… “Sell everything except high quality bonds,” warned Andrew Roberts in a note this week. He said the bank’s red flags for 2016 — falling oil, volatility in China, shrinking world trade, rising debt, weak corporate loans and deflation — had all been seen in just the first week of trading. “We think investors should be afraid,” he said. And of course RBS is not the only big bank issuing these kinds of ominous warnings. The biggest bank in America, J.P. Morgan Chase, is “urging investors to sell stocks on any bounce”… J.P. Morgan Chase has turned its back on the stock market: For the first time in seven years, the investment bank is urging investors to sell stocks on any bounce. “Our view is that the risk-reward for equities has worsened materially. In contrast to the past seven years, when we advocated using the dips as buying opportunities, we believe the regime has transitioned to one of selling any rally,” Mislav Matejka, an equity strategist at J.P. Morgan, said in a report. Aside from technical indicators, expectations of anemic corporate earnings combined with the downward trajectory in U.S. manufacturing activity and a continued weakness in commodities are raising red flags. Major banks have not talked like this since the great financial crisis of 2008/2009.  Clearly something really big is going on.  Trillions of dollars of financial wealth were wiped out around the world during the last six months of 2015, and trillions more dollars have been wiped out during the first 12 days of 2016.  As I noted above, the collective market value of the S&P 500 is down by about a trillion dollars all by itself. One of the big things driving all of this panic is the stunning collapse in the price of oil.  U.S. oil was trading as low as $29.93 a barrel on Tuesday, and this was the first time that oil has traded under 30 dollars a barrel since December 2003. Needless to say, this collapse is absolutely killing energy companies.  The following comes from USA Today… There aren’t many people who feel bad for oil companies. But the implosion in oil prices is causing a profit decline that almost invokes pity. The companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 energy sector are expected to lose a collective $28.8 billion this calendar year, down from $95.4 billion in net income earned during the industry’s bonanza year of 2008, according to a USA TODAY analysis of data from S&P Capital IQ. That’s a $124 billion swing against energy companies – and one you’re probably enjoying at the pump. The analysis includes only the 36 S&P 500 energy companies that reported net income in 2008. If we are to avoid a major global deflationary crisis, we desperately need the price of oil to get back above 50 dollars a barrel.  Unfortunately, that does not appear to be likely to happen any time soon.  In fact, Dallas Fed President Robert Kaplan says that the price of oil is probably going to stay very low for years to come… You’d expect at least some artificial optimism when the president of the Dallas Fed talks about oil. You’d expect some droplets of hope for that crucial industry in Texas. But when Dallas Fed President Robert Kaplan spoke on Monday, there was none, not for 2016, and most likely not for 2017 either, and maybe not even for 2018. The wide-ranging speech included a blunt section on oil, the dismal future of the price of oil, the global and US causes for its continued collapse, and what it might mean for the Texas oil industry: “more bankruptcies, mergers and restructurings….” The oil price plunge since mid-2014, with its vicious ups and downs, was bad enough. But since the OPEC meeting in December, he said, “the overall tone in the oil and gas sector has soured, as expectations have decidedly shifted to an ‘even lower for even longer’ price outlook.” In recent articles I have discussed so many of the other signs that indicate that there is big trouble ahead, but today I just want to quickly mention another one that has just popped up in the news. The amount of stuff being shipped across the U.S. by rail has been dropping dramatically.  The only times when we have seen similar large drops has been during previous recessions.  The following comes from Bloomberg… Railroad cargo in the U.S. dropped the most in six years in 2015, and things aren’t looking good for the new year. “We believe rail data may be signaling a warning for the broader economy,” the recent note from Bank of America says. “Carloads have declined more than 5 percent in each of the past 11 weeks on a year-over-year basis. While one-off volume declines occur occasionally, they are generally followed by a recovery shortly thereafter. The current period of substantial and sustained weakness, including last week’s -10.1 percent decline, has not occurred since 2009.” BofA analysts led by Ken Hoexter look at the past 30 years to see what this type of steep decline usually means for the U.S. economy. What they found wasn’t particularly encouraging: All such drops in rail carloads preceded, or were accompanied by, an economic slowdown (Note: They excluded 1996 due to an extremely harsh winter). The “next economic downturn” is already here, and it is starting to accelerate. Yes, the financial markets are starting to catch up with economic reality, but they still have a long, long way to go.  It is going to take another 30 percent drop or so just for them to get to levels that are considered to be “normal” or “average” by historical standards. And the markets are so fragile at this point that any sort of a major “trigger event” could cause a sudden market implosion unlike anything that we have ever seen before. So let us hope for the best, but let us also heed the advice of RBS and get prepared for a “cataclysmic” year.

How Fasting Can Improve Your Spiritual and Physical Health

The Bible says the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. We wrote about this in the January issue of Charisma in which we covered both fasting and health.

To me, they are somewhat related, as I explained in my Perspectives column. I believe we must be responsible for and take care of the physical body God has given us. I hope for many reasons that our issue on health and fasting is a turning point. 

I know some Christians who wouldn't drink or smoke (because it's unhealthy) but were so obese they had very poor health. They wouldn't need God to heal them of their maladies if they had lived healthy lifestyles!

Fasting is a spiritual discipline that brings us closer to God and helps us believe Him at times of great need. And the articles on health in the January issue of Charisma can help us improve incrementally and enjoy life to the fullest. No matter how poor or good your health is, you can improve. 

A decade ago, I felt led to fast for 40 days. It was a time of great spiritual breakthrough for me. I got a physical exam before I started my 40-day fast, which I recommend before doing something so radical. 

The fast had a side benefit—I proved to myself that I was not a slave to my appetite. Turning away dessert or avoiding a bag of chips is not hard compared to the discipline of a long fast! It broke whatever compulsive eating habits I may have had, my body was able to detoxify, and I proved to myself I could do a long fast.

In my mid-20s, I was so out of shape I couldn't run a lap around a football field without being winded. I had grown up in a family where healthy eating habits and exercise were not emphasized. Several relatives tipped the scales at over 300 pounds. I didn't want to be that out of shape.

Then I read an article about someone who started jogging by running to the next mailbox and then walking to the next mailbox. Soon he could run to two mailboxes before walking and gradually built up to a mile. I decided I could do that, and I did!  When I travel internationally, I have enjoyed some pleasant jogs through places like Venice, downtown London and Russia.

Because that article helped me, I read other articles and books and began to educate myself on the value of health and fitness. It may be why we now publish a line of health books, many of which have been very popular, under the brand Siloam.  I've also turned to professionals for advice. I go to doctors who can help me with my health! (I personally avoid overweight doctors.) I've found health professionals who can help me work out. 

Two years ago this month, I was treated for prostate cancer. Thankfully, I found a procedure called High Intense Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) that is noninvasive and left me cancer free with no side effects. I did a lot of research to determine what was right for me because I found the health professionals recommended whatever they made money doing!

I decided to try to be in as good health as possible before the procedure, so I started going to a trainer.  I actually lowered my percentage of fat and added muscle, and I've continued the routine. I also began to set some goals. I ran in some races and decided to increase the pushups, pull-ups and sit-ups I could do. Recently, a military friend told me about the Army Physical Fitness Test all military personnel must pass twice a year. For fun, I pulled the test off the Internet that the Rangers must pass and I passed it!

I participated for six weeks with a group of men who did the program, and each week, we had to do something extreme and post the results on a special Facebook page. For example, one day we had to do as many pushups as possible. I picked a Saturday when I had the flexibility and did a set of 25 and then 20 minutes later, another set of 25. In a 12-hour span, I was able to do more than 700. I would have never guessed this possible.

Then, for my 64th birthday, I did 64 pull-ups. I admit it was fun to prove to myself and others that I could do more than I thought possible. If I can do it, you can do more than you thought possible!

I'm well aware that the apostle Paul said, "Bodily exercise profits a little" (1 Tim. 4:8). There are those who spend so much time working out others call them gym rats! They are almost cult-like in how they focus on physical fitness beyond all else and seemingly worship the human body.

I'm not talking about that extreme. I'm taking about the parable of the talents, which can be summed up as: "If you use it, it will grow, and if you don't use it, you will lose it." Jesus said that about investing talents, but that also applies in exercise.

God created wonderful bodies and gave us health. In 3 John 2, it says, "Beloved, I pray ... you may be in good health." I believe He's glorified when we are responsible to use what He's given for His glory. Everything we do in word and deed—even caring for our health—must be done for His glory.

(Virginia Beach, Virginia) -- President Barack Obama's decision to pass on meeting Jordan's King Abdullah is a sign that the president doesn't understand the Middle East or how to fight radical Islam, author and Middle East expert Joel Rosenberg told CBN News.

Jordan is a key U.S. ally in the Middle East and the fight against the Islamic State. Abdullah is in Washington this week, but Obama, who will give his final State of the Union Address tonight, has declined to meet with him citing "scheduling conflicts," according to a report by The Times of Israel.

"This is insane," Rosenberg said. "The King of Jordan is probably the most faithful Sunni ally that the United States has, and President Obama doesn't have time to meet with him?"

"He had time for Matt Lauer this morning on the 'Today Show.' You know, I mean, carve out 15 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour with our main ally in the most dangerous fight that we are in right now," he continued. "This just goes to the heart of it, if you understand Islam, if you understand the Middle East, then meet with your allies."

A White House official said the two leaders will meet "in the near future," according to The Times report.

Abdullah met with Vice President Joe Biden Tuesday and Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Defense Ash Carter on Monday.

The Times reports Abdullah and Kerry held talks about defeating the Islamic State and reviving peace talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians. That discussion included conversations about the Temple Mount and ongoing disputes between parties on both sides.

A Pentagon spokesman said Carter told Abdullah he deeply appreciates Jordan's help in countering the Islamic State.

The Islamic State has conquered large parts of Iraq and Syria and proclaimed itself a caliphate. The radical Islamic army has attacked and killed religious minorities and turned women into sex slaves.

“The state of the Middle East is a catastrophe.” My interview with CBN on the State of the Union, the presidential front-runners & the visit by Jordan’s King to Washington. by joelcrosenberg (Virginia Beach, Virginia) -- This morning, on the day President Obama was scheduled to deliver his final State of the Union address tonight before a Joint Session of Congress, I was interviewed on the Christian Broadcasting Network. We discussed President Obama's performance in the Middle East, the President's stunning refusal to meet this week with Jordan's King Abdullah II who is on an official visit to Washington, and whether the two presidential front-runners are better prepared than Mr. Obama to deal with the rising threats in the Middle East. "The state of the Middle East right now is a catastrophe," I explained. "President Obama's policies in the Middle East have been an utter failure because he has chosen, ideologically, to withdraw all U.S. forces and influence from the region....The region is on fire." "Syria is in a total meltdown -- we're watching the implosion of a modern Arab state and an absolute human catastrophe," and the President has offered no plan to turn things around. What's more, in 2015, Mr. Obama signed off on an insane nuclear deal that I noted will give Iran "two pathways to The Bomb" -- one if Iran cheats on the deal, and the other if Iran keeps the deal, waits ten years until all the restrictions are removed, and then races to build a whole arsenal of nuclear warheads. Meanwhile, the President is making Israeli leaders and Sunni Arab leaders feel that he has abandoned them while emboldening their worst enemy, Iran, and doing precious little to defeat the forces of the Islamic State. "What is the President doing?" I asked. "The President today is refusing to meet with Jordan's King Abdullah, who is in Washington this week, because he's too busy. Too busy for our most faithful Sunni Arab ally?" [Let me add: This stunning decision by Mr. Obama to snub the King of Jordan is as nonsensical as it is offensive. Jordan is in a hot war with the Islamic State. The King, a Muslim -- indeed a descendent of Muhammad -- is doing a heroic job confronting this barbaric enemy. How in the world could the President not make time to meet with him, listen to his perspective, and talk about how to work even more closely together. The President took time to meet with Matt Lauer of the TODAY Show this morning. I watched that interview. To refuse to meet with an ally in wartime in disgraceful.] "The Saudis feel like the President of the United States has cut and run [from our allies]," I added during the interview. "The Jordanians feel this way. So do the Egyptians. The Israelis have the worst relationship with this President in the history of the country. So the region feels scared by two existential threats -- Iran, ISIS, and their Apocalyptic Islam." "This has been a catastrophic year in U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. If the President of the United States comes out tonight and says that the state of the union is strong and the state of our foreign policy, nobody in the region -- much less in our country -- will believe him." "You cannot defeat an enemy you refuse to define. And I'm saying the President still won't call Radical Islam by its name. But Apocalyptic Islam is much worse. Why? Because Radical Islam wants to attack us, to drive us out of the holy lands and the holy places. But Apocalyptic Islam doesn't simply want to attack us, it wants to annihilate us and bring about genocide, in order to usher in the coming of their messiah." A Time the Heavens Will Shake and the Earth Will Quake!

Last Sunday morning (January 3), the Spirit of God was so present as we concluded our Starting the Year Off Right Celebration. Below is a portion of the prophetic release that came forward through tongues, interpretation, worship and declaration.

"Do not seek the familiar this year, for the familiar will lead you into passivity. Seek the sound that will lead you into movement. Seek not the familiar that you are used to seeing and hearing, for that will cause you to be stagnant. Rather, seek the sound that will lead you into movement. For My finger is writing a song out of Heaven. This song will change the course of the current path, situation, and environment that surrounds you.

"The heavens will shake, and the earth will quake. I am breaking up the fallow ground of your paradigms, and they are going to split wide open. It's time to plow the fallow ground. The time is NOW to plow that fallow ground. There is more than your mind has conceived – new patterns, new ways, and new means. The familiar will chain you down to an old thing and way, and you won't be ready for the breaking of a new day.

"Do not question, for you are hearing Me. Capture what you're hearing and bring it into obedience. 

You've been working with the iniquities of the ground, but Heaven now will shake and the earth will quake, and with what you've been working with I am ready to show you a new way to prosper and succeed. 

So start plowing and you will uncover the seeds to your future. You will return to divine patterns you've not seen clearly in the Word before; or you saw them and you didn't know how to apply it right. But now divine patterns are coming down! (Photo via deviantart)

"I will show you how to break open the heavens and shake the earth. You'll no longer be working with the iniquities of your forefathers. That will no longer be your paradigm. 

You'll no longer be working earth that is cursed, because the blessing is beginning to be uncovered. Plant your future and watch growth begin.

The Sounds of Heaven – Vibrating the Ground

"Learn to move by the vibrations of the sound coming up through your feet. This is how I will move My people into place in days ahead! You will not move by the thoughts of your mind, but by the sounds of Heaven vibrating the ground and causing your feet to sense what I'm saying so you can move into place for the future.

"You will be like the elephant that hears through his feet, and because of that he can hear things coming from miles away. As he hears things coming from a distance and prepares himself for what's coming, he trumpets with his mouth what's going on so others can see. Your enemy is confined to the air; he is the prince of the air. 

But I am the God of the earth and you stand on My ground and can receive My vibrations and My revelation to advance in days ahead.

"I am calling you as 'Change Agents!' No matter where you go, you pull the anointing from Me, and that will change the atmosphere. Don't be afraid of this shaking for it is a remaking. Everything that is of Me will not fall in the shaking. 

The time is NOW to stand up and move with the cadence of Heaven. You will then be able to shake dens of iniquity and watch dragon's head fall and roll. The shaking this time is about a remaking. Let Me reshape, remold and cause you to shift atmospheres, for you are truly Change Agents in this hour. Receive a mantle of change. Receive a mantle to shift.

"The sound that is coming down from Heaven is the sound that the 'New Trailblazers' will hear. I am equipping New Trailblazers this season. They will cut through the brush and the stubble. As My sound comes you will be equipped. I am preparing new vessels and new vehicles for these New Trailblazers.

"This is an hour I am beginning to change the language of My people. I am beginning to change the way that My people interpret language. 

There is a sound from Heaven to connect you with this season. 

Remember Peter. The people listened to him speaking. They knew that he was not someone educated, but they could feel My authority and power being released. There is a sound and a shofar from Heaven that is aligning with the trumpet inside MY people. Recognize and realize this power from Heaven that is working through you.

"I am causing your language to change and the way that My Word is released. The way that you release and understand prophecy and how I am working in the atmosphere is now changing. 

One simple word and sound will begin to shift, and people's minds will begin to grasp and understand the power that's working in the earth and in the atmosphere. The specifics of what I am doing and where I want to take you will be revealed.

"Healings and miracles will happen as you change your language. One utterance of that tongue can set the course of everything you need to know. 

I will have a joyful house of prayer for all people. Therefore, if you will start expressing the joy of the house you have, I will develop the joy that I need for your strength to increase.

Watchmen Arise! A Year of Rapid Fire!

"Watchmen, arise. Let your tongues be the pen of a ready writer. As you write, as you bring down the strategies, I am going to cause doors to fall like dominoes. I am going to cause gates to be blown off the hinges.

Watchmen, write what you see, write what you hear; I am fine-tuning your ears. I am opening your eyes in a new way. I am bringing you up to an aerial view, so you can look down into the enemy's camp. You will speak and write specific things, and you will cause ambushments to be set in the enemy's camp.

"Judah, Judah, I am waking you in a new way. For even as I caused the gates to shake for Paul and Silas as they prayed in the night, so Judah will be awakened in a new way. 

There is something I am awakening you to, to discipline you in, this year. So break through that fear that's surrounding you.

"This will be a year of 'rapid fire.' This will be a year when I will be shooting down, like lightening, upon My people. For I am calling fiery warriors into place. I will do things in you that you have been waiting to see, but I will call you into a place where I want you to pave the way for others to see. 

Know that this is the year of the travail of rapid fire.

"I am bringing you out of the desert, out of the war in the desert, and I am calling you to stand on the banks of your Promised Land, and war.

Many of My children saw me remove many things, and this was difficult, but it was Me. I am removing that old mindset of the desert, and am placing you in the place where you belong, in the place I have desired for you.

"For this is the season to war in a way you've not warred before. 

So lay down your desert weapons and move forward into your Promised Land and I will establish you. You will hear My voice as never before and you will conquer the enemy that has tried to take you out in the past season.

So look up, look up and see that your help doesn't draw nigh, but that it is already here!

"With every crescendo of your life this year I will take you to a point to put your foot on the enemy. Wait for My exact moment. Then, when you bring your foot down on your enemy, your enemy's headship will no longer rule you.

"That which has been underground, I will now draw upward. Over that which has had to amass, and that which has had to come together in one way, you will now see what I have gathered. I have been gathering and I have been preparing, and now, I will draw forth.

"To this nation I say that the enemy has been gathering and preparing against you. But you will now strategize to rise against. Do not rise up too quickly, for I can cause the enemy to start moving even as I prepare you to move into his path and ambush him. 

You are now going to amass and gather in a way you have never gathered, and I will start the gathering. For the contractions of the earth have begun, and because of that, what has been down, hidden, will now be pushed up, and seen. Know this hour for your change has come."

8 Trends in American Churches in 2016

I have been writing on trends in churches for two decades. I certainly don't have a perfect record with my predictions, but my overall record is pretty good.

My methodology is simple: I observe emerging issues in some churches and extrapolate them into major trends.

This year I take this approach with a higher level of confidence than previous years. I have seen most of the following issues grow month by month in 2015, so I don't have to be the brightest person in the world to project them as major trends in 2016.

Here are the first eight trends. Later, I will write about eight more:

1. Church security as the fastest growing ministry. Shootings in churches and sex abuse of children mandate this unfortunate trend. No church can afford to be without serious security measures, policies and equipment. It will evolve into a major church ministry.

2. Decrease in worship center size and capacity. The large worship gathering is not as popular as it has been. Through multiple services and multiple sites, churches will follow this preference with smaller capacity worship centers.

3. Increase in successfully revitalized churches. More church leaders sense a call to lead revitalized churches. Because of this desire and intentionality, we will see more success stories of churches that have experienced significant revitalization.

4. Rapid growth of coaching ministries for pastors and church staff. The current trend is anecdotal, but it will soon be verified and obvious. Pastors and staff who have the humility to be led, and the willingness to invest resources in coaching are becoming the most effective church leaders.

5. Increase in the numbers of churches in gentrified communities. Thousands of older urban communities are becoming revitalized. Churches are following the increased numbers of residents to these communities.

6. Increased emphasis on practical ministry training. Church leaders in America have seen a much needed two-decade renewal of training in classical disciplines and doctrine. That need remains, but more leaders are crying for training in leadership, relational skills, and other practical ministries.

7. Increasing emphasis on groups in churches. Church leaders are getting it. When church members are a part of some type of group, such as a small group or Sunday school class, they attend more faithfully, evangelize more frequently, and give more abundantly.

8. Fewer segregated churches. For most of American history, 11:00 a.m. on Sunday was the most segregated hour of the week. That is changing. A church that is not racially and ethnically diverse will soon become the exception instead of the norm.
