Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog

Steve Forbes calls #TheFirstHostage a “stunning, spine-tingling, steroid-paced” tale. Here’s his new review in Forbes magazine.

by joelcrosenberg
(Dallas, Texas) -- Just read the review of The First Hostage by Steve Forbes in the latest issue of FORBES magazine and I wanted to pass it along to you all.
Thanks so much, Steve -- I'm  so glad you enjoyed the novel this much. I couldn't be more grateful! Now, let's get this thing turned into a major Hollywood blockbuster.
------------------
The First Hostage -- by Joel Rosenberg (Tyndale House Publishers, $26.99). If you’re not already a fan of Joel Rosenberg, whose books–fiction and nonfiction–have sold more than 3 million copies worldwide, you’ll be one once you’ve read this latest novel. It combines Joel’s ability to spin stunning, spine-tingling, steroid-paced tales with his impressively deep knowledge of the Middle East.
The First Hostage is the second in a new series of action thrillers whose main character is New York Times journalist J.B. Collins. Although this is an exciting stand-alone read, you might first want to dive into its precursor, The Third Target. These novels involve ISIS terrorist attacks; espionage, with a possible highly placed, pro-ISIS American mole; weapons of mass destruction; and intrigue galore.
This book begins where the first left off: at a meeting in Amman, Jordan, where the king of Jordan, the U.S. President, Israel’s prime minister and the head of the Palestinian Authority are about to sign a historic peace agreement. ISIS launches a massive attack, and in the confusion the President goes missing. Collins is there covering the event but before long finds himself suspected of being a mole. There are many mind-boggling twists and plenty of suspense before the book ends.
Joel Rosenberg, who in a previous life served as the director of research for my 2000 presidential campaign, knows his subject well. An evangelical Christian who lives in Israel with his wife and children, he has addressed audiences around the world; been interviewed for his insightful analyses on hundreds of TV and radio programs; and advised world leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Joel knows too much to ever share President Obama’s delusion that what’s unfolding in the Middle East isn’t much of a threat to the West.

What Once Was Dead - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

What Once Was Dead

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Not long after that, Jesus went to the village Nain. His disciples were with him, along with quite a large crowd. As they approached the village gate, they met a funeral procession — a woman's only son was being carried out for burial. And the mother was a widow. When Jesus saw her, his heart broke. He said to her, "Don't cry." Then he went over and touched the coffin. The pallbearers stopped. He said, "Young man, I tell you: Get up." The dead son sat up and began talking. Jesus presented him to his mother.

They all realized they were in a place of holy mystery, that God was at work among them. They were quietly worshipful — and then noisily grateful, calling out among themselves, "God is back, looking to the needs of his people!" The news of Jesus spread all through the country.” (Luke 7:11-17 THE MESSAGE)

The mom had lost her only son. Her husband had already died. That could have been many years ago. She may have had a daughter or two left in this world, but the one she was really counting on, her only son, whom she had put her faith in to provide support for her in her old age, was no longer. He too was now dead.

What you thought was dead, is dead. It had been here but now it was gone. Does that pretty much say something about something in your life?

You had a dream. Looks like it won’t ever happen. As far as you are concerned, it might as well be dead, and for all practical purposes it is gone for good.

You had a job. They cut the workforce in half. You were part of that half.

The one you loved in your youth, the one who promised to be there 10 years later, yes, even “until death do you part”…they left for another last summer. Now you have no one and are alone.

Just like that mother.

All around us we see death. The economy is collapsing. The society is decaying faster than we ever realized it would, or could. What we once thought was solid rock to stand on has already been shaken. The thrill of life is now buried in a grave. Dead and gone.

If Jesus wasn’t in the world, the world would have no hope. If Jesus doesn’t come now and walk by us, what was dead will remain dead. There is no resurrection power except His resurrection power. God is God, and He alone can restore the broken hearted; the lost and not yet found; the one on their way to the burial ground ready to be put six feet under.

But the good news is that Jesus, Yeshua, is alive and well on this planet earth. (Thank you Hal Lindsey for sharing your book in the 1970’s.)

“When Jesus saw her, his heart broke. He said to her, "Don't cry." Then he went over and touched the coffin. The pallbearers stopped. He said, "Young man, I tell you: Get up." The dead son sat up and began talking. Jesus presented him to his mother.” (Luke 7:13)

Jesus’ heart was broke. He had deep compassion for this mom. He knew that the one being carried away from her, this her only son, was dead and on his way to the final burial place. So He stopped and did something about it. For her sake.

Jesus has compassion for you. What you thought was dead, buried, and never to be seen again can be resurrected by Him. What you thought was finished, He will bring back, because He has compassion. Because He knows the need. Because He alone can bring back to life what was really dead.

Jesus is telling you, “Don’t cry.” Even as He spoke to the young man to get up, and then gave him back to his mother, He is speaking to you.

“Get up. It is not over!”

God is back, looking to the needs of His people. He will visit you in this time of need. Even as God the Father gave His only Son for you and me, He has come to you for life, and not death.

What once was dead will become alive again. Your Father in heaven, Who will touch you where you are at today, has that power, and love, to do that for you. And He will.

Call on His Name. Believe Jesus.

So think on this, with the compassionate love of the Lord,

ISRAEL TODAY: VIDEO: Israel Highlights Ongoing Palestinian Incitement

VIDEO: Israel Highlights Ongoing Palestinian Incitement
Wednesday, January 20, 2016 |  Israel Today Staff

At Sunday’s cabinet meeting, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan presented ministers with an index of Palestinian Authority-sanctioned incitement against Israel over the past year.
This incitement is not only ongoing, but actually escalating despite the Palestinian leadership’s commitment in various signed agreements to halt all glorification of violence against Israel and its Jewish population.
This gross violation of the so-called “Oslo” accords, seen by Israel as one of the key reasons peace has been so elusive, is routinely ignored by Western power brokers.

Today's Israel Inspiration

All of God’s bounty is beneficial for us and there are many delicious foods that grow in the Land of Israel, yet the Creator of the world singled out seven species of fruit and grain as being particularly blessed (Deut. 8:8). Did you know that Israel’s Seven Species are not only delicious foods, but contain special properties contributing to a healthy body and spirit as well? We call them the Lord's secret pharmacy! Just in time for the upcoming festival of Tu B'Shvat (the New Year for the trees), enjoy the incredible benefits of the biblical Seven Species with Shivat Natural Cosmetics.

Beautiful Green Israel

This beautifully filmed video shows the breathtaking results of Israel's incredible "afforestation" efforts, which made it the ONLY country in the entire world which has more trees today than it did 100 years ago.

Recipes Celebrating the
7 Species

The Bible praises the Land of Israel for 7 special fruits which are suited to the climate of the Land and are considered blessed. In honor of the upcoming Tu B’Shvat holiday, enjoy these recipes created around the 7 Species.

NEW: "Open Your Heart" Music CD

"Open Your Heart" by cantor Boaz Davidoff is a beautiful CD with a modern take on the tunes of music master Rav Shlomo Carlebach. The songs provide a heartfelt and enthusiastic energy that lifts and inspires the listener in a deep and very personal way.

Yesterday's Photo Trivia

Yesterday's photo featured the Cave of Machpelah in Hebron. The Hebrew word "makh-peh-LA" means "multiple," a reference to the four holy couples buried there: Adam & Eve, Abraham & Sarah, Isaac & Rebecca, and Jacob & Leah.
