Finding Courage When Your Child Rejects Jesus - DEVEN WALLACE CHARISMA MAGAZINE

Mom, even if your son chooses to throw off his proper garments for a time, don't lose heart. (Unsplash)

Finding Courage When Your Child Rejects Jesus

Shaping our children for their God-given purpose begins with our own ability to hear and obey God. According to 1 Samuel 1:11, Hannah called Samuel to the Nazarite vow from birth. She made the vow that a razor would never touch his head and began to train him for a lifestyle he did not have the ability or maturity to choose on his own. She groomed him for the temple even though Eli had yet to make such mandates on his life. Similarly, Samson's mother in the book of Judges chose a lifestyle for Samson that was not his own decision to make.
But there came a day in Samuel's life when he no longer had to be dressed by someone else. He could wake up and dress himself as he came to the age of adulthood. There came a season in his life when either he could embrace what his life had conditioned him for, accept his mother's Nazarite declaration over him, and follow the plan of God for his life, or he could refuse it. He could throw down his mother's coat, turn in his ephod and find his own way in life.
The truth is we can train our children to follow God, but we cannot make them follow God. We may make the garment, but there comes a season in their maturity that they must choose to put it on themselves.
There are two Bible stories that come to mind that demonstrate how children of promise may still waver from the values they were clothed with, at least for a season. In the life of Samson in the book of Judges, we see that he willfully went in a direction in which God and his parents directed him not to go.
For a season, he experienced the pain and heartache of his choices because they resulted in his becoming a prisoner to the Philistines. However, his hair did grow back, and at the end of his life, he turned back to his true God-purpose and won a great victory against the enemies of God's people. It took a season of defeat to help him realign to a place of victory (See Judges 13-16).
We also see in the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15 how one son remained in his father's house while the other took his inheritance and began to live in a manner that was contrary to his upbringing. His poor life choices left him in rags instead of the beautiful garments his parents had clothed him in. However, the Word says he came to himself in the midst of the pigpen. Something snapped within him, and he turned from his wicked ways and willfully chose to return to his father's house. From the moment his father saw him coming toward his home, he prepared a robe to re-cover him and bring him back to his rightful place of identity and purpose.
Mom, even if your daughter chooses to throw off her proper garments for a time, don't lose heart. It may take a defeat before she can find victory again. It could take a season in the pigpen before she surrenders her will to the heavenly Father. However, garments can be restored, and destiny does not have to be forfeited. The garment you are weaving for your child will endure through wavering and testing, and that purpose will remain beyond the elements of doubt and deception.

If you're a mom, ask God for discernment this week as you daily weave a garment of identity that will protect your child from the enemy. Pray for wayward sons and daughters to return to the Lord and their God-given purpose. Pray that they may impact this generation and expand the kingdom of God. Continue to pray that God will grant our leaders His wisdom when they make decisions affecting our nation and the world. Luke 15; Judges 13-16; 1 Thess. 5:17.

Christian Zionists to Trump: Policy of Not Moving US Embassy "Based on Weakness and Fear" - BREAKING ISRAEL NEWS by JNS

Christian Zionists to Trump: Policy of Not Moving US Embassy "Based on Weakness and Fear" - BREAKING ISRAEL NEWS

“At that time they shall call Yerushalayim the throne of Hashem; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of Hashem, to Yerushalayim; neither shall they walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil heart.” Jeremiah 3:17 (The Israel Bible™)
The U.S. branch of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ) delivered President Donald Trump and the U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman a strategy paper calling for the Trump administration to move America’s Israeli embassy to Jerusalem this year.
In the paper, delivered as Israel prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the reunification of the holy city May 23-24, the Christian Zionist group identified three main reasons the international community has used to justify the refusal to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital: the internationalization of Jerusalem as suggested in the 1947 United Nations Partition Plan, the need to be “even-handed” on the issue of Jerusalem and “fear of a potential Islamic backlash.”
“This is not a policy based on principle, fairness or historical right, but it is based solely on weakness and fear,” the ICEJ said in the policy paper. “The United States should announce its firm decision to officially recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and to move its embassy there in the weeks before Israel marks the 50th anniversary of a reunited Jerusalem.”

Here's Where Betsy DeVos Can 'Start Fresh' With Higher Education - MARY CLARE REIM/HERITAGE FOUNDATION

Here's Where Betsy DeVos Can 'Start Fresh' With Higher Education

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos stated during a speech in Salt Lake City on Tuesday that instead of reauthorizing the Higher Education Act, lawmakers should consider a "fresh start."
Yes, Congress should consider alternatives to the Higher Education Act, which authorizes all federal higher education spending such as student loans and grants.
Enacted in 1965 under President Lyndon Johnson, the Higher Education Act has undergone countless amendments that pass problems on to future generations. As the secretary said, "Why wouldn't we start afresh and talk about what we need in this century and beyond for educating and helping our young people learn?"
Indeed, higher education badly needs to be adapted to the changing requirements of the American workforce. Here are just a few ways that Congress can give the higher education sector the fresh start it so badly needs.
Decouple Federal Financing From Accreditation
The federal government's control over our accreditation system is not a particularly popular topic, but it has dramatic consequences on the ability of American universities to thrive and innovate.
The federal government currently has sole discretion in the recognition of accreditors, who then serve as gatekeepers of federal student aid and other institutional financing. This solidifies the federal government's ability to determine which education is worthy of accreditation and which is not. Unfortunately, this de facto federal system of accreditation has limited the ability of the higher education sector to grow and adapt to the changing needs of our workforce and the economy.
Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, and Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., have put forward the Higher Education Reform and Opportunity Act (HERO), which would allow states to opt out of the current federal accrediting structure.
States could recognize their own accreditors, including members of the business community. The legislation would also allow states to break apart the current binary accrediting model, and let the business community, trade groups, nonprofits, and other entities to put their stamp of approval on individually credentialed courses or curricula.
These reforms would give students a better idea of the market value of the education they are receiving, grant more flexibility with student loan dollars, and create a pipeline between the universities and the job market.
Consolidate Federal Lending
Under the Obama administration, the federal government dramatically increased its role in originating and servicing student loans. The near-monopoly that the federal government now has over the student loan market presents many problems, the most pressing of which is mounting evidence suggesting federal aid leads to increases in college tuition.
As my colleague Jamie Hall and I discuss in our recent report, the five current federal loan programs should be collapsed into a single loan option under the current terms of the Graduate Stafford Loan. Additionally, Congress should place an annual and lifetime cap on student lending, thereby restoring fiscal responsibility to the loan program. We anticipate such reforms would lead to savings of $33 billion over the next 10 years.
Remove Burdensome Regulations
Under the Obama administration, several burdensome regulations were placed on institutions of higher education, particularly those in the for-profit sector.
Regulations should at the very least be sector neutral in their application, but a better approach would be to remove these barriers to innovation altogether.
Borrower defense to repayment, for example, opens institutions up to being sued by students who feel they have been defrauded by their university (a potentially slippery slope in the future). While longstanding institutions with large endowments may be better insulated from this regulation, new actors who are trying to build their business will have trouble coming up with the line of credit required to protect against such suits.
This is just one example of the many ways that burdensome regulations drain resources from universities and distract from the business of educating students.
In considering the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, policymakers should follow DeVos' advice and develop new policy proposals that will help improve the quality of higher education while putting downward pressure on prices. These reforms would be a significant step in achieving that goal.

What You Can Do to Champion Spirit-Filled Moms Around You - HAYLEY KAHLER SPIRITLED WOMAN

Mother's Day is on Sunday and we recognize the hard work that every mom does to take care of her family.

The SpiritLed Woman podcast is empowering women weekly to follow their purpose in Christ and boldly walk in faith. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

I was just watching the new Wonder Woman trailer. I generally like superhero movies, so I'll probably go watch it. But I find myself wondering why it's so exciting to watch some woman fight bad guys while wearing the most ridiculously impractical clothes. Granted, none of the male superheroes wear practical outfits either, so at least it's fair in that regard.
Every day, we fight for what is right and good and healthy.
Anyway, to my point...we are surrounded by Wonder Woman on a daily basis. The single mom raising kids alone, the woman headed back to school to start a new career, the woman loving and cherishing children she didn't get to birth, the single woman who isn't waiting for a man to help her really live her adventure, the brave moms who homeschool, the brave moms who don't, the business woman, the lady preacher who's going against the religious flow. You get the picture. Every day we fight for what is right and good and healthy. Women wage war against dysfunctional patterns and habits in our own lives and in the world around us by living with hearts that are becoming whole and healthy.
We are Wonder Woman.
We were made with beautiful minds that solve problems and beautiful bodies that create and sustain life. We have beautiful hearts that nurture and have the ability to love children we didn't create. We are Wonder Woman. Look around you, see the beautiful ones and champion them!
