9 Signs of the Modern-Day Remnant Church

As the persecution of the Bible-believing church becomes more intense, there will be a greater manifestation of what I am referring to in this article as the "remnant church." By remnant church, I am referring to the surviving vestige of the body of Christ that remains true to biblical principles in spite of cultural opposition.
There is always a true remnant left during times of apostasy and persecution. Elijah the prophet found out that God always preserved a remnant, by His grace, that held true to the faith (1 Kin. 19 and Rom. 11:2-5). By remnant church, I am not merely referring to so-called "cultural warrior" churches who seem to always be battling for a cause (which can be part of it, although the gospel is always much bigger than one social cause).
I am also not referring to so-called Christian churches that do idiotic things (like burning the Quran) or exhibit intentionally hostile (and un-Christlike) behavior by so-called churches (such as the Westboro Baptist Church). (I cringe even calling this group of hate-mongers a church.) I am, however, referring to those of plain and simple faith and obedience to the Word of God, which is practiced by humble, people-loving, community-serving, compassionate churches that do not compromise the Word of God.
The following are characteristics of the modern-day remnant church:
  1. They will become more entrenched in the Word of God the more the world opposes them.
The more resistance they face, the more the remnant church will become resolute in their faith (sort of like the way the muscles in our body get harder with resistance training). Instead of compromising the message of the Word, they may change their method of presenting the gospel but will never even consider watering down biblical ethics, values and the message of the cross of Jesus Christ.
  1. They will become the vilified in society.
The remnant church used to be merely unpopular in the past but has now gotten to the point where they are hated. It is very apparent that Christian values are constantly mocked, such as by popular voices like Bill Maher, Rachel Maddow and the like. This can give you an idea on how popular it is to hate biblical Christianity.
  1. They will preach countercultural biblical messages.
The remnant pastors will continue to preach the gospel of Christ, which always has vast implications related to human sexuality, the sanctity of human life, the definition of marriage and family and such; albeit, they should apply the gospel to cultural issues in a wiser, more winsome way. The remnant church will remain faithful in preaching the gospel in spite of the possible backlash they can receive from church attendees and or the public.
  1. They will produce the most committed Christians and make disciples.
It is a known fact that liberal, progressive, compromising churches are shrinking, while conservative evangelical churches are the ones growing in numbers. Also, when a church is on the tip of the spear in regards to biblical truth, it is able to produce disciples because it takes great sacrifice to believe in Jesus in the midst of hostile environments. Consider the Christians still living in Iraq, Syria, Iran, Northern Nigeria, Sudan and similar persecutory regions. Compromising churches produce wimpy believers and the remnant church produces committed disciples.
  1. They will experience a greater presence and power of God than other churches.
The first-century church was a hated minority, yet the great power and presence of God that accompanied its ministry (Acts 3-5)! I have found the more difficult it is to confess the truth of the gospel, the more God shows off His glory! Where sin abounds, grace does more abound (Rom. 5:20).
  1. They will become more visible and distinct as the culture becomes more decadent.
I believe that in any entity, secular or religious, about 25 percent of its members are the most committed to its vision and mission. They are the ones willing to endure the most pain for the cause. That means that most of the people in any entity detach when the going gets tough. From this we can expect that the harder it becomes for the church to practice biblical Christianity, the more evident it will become who the remnant church is.
  1. They will be more excluded and separated from mainstream secular evangelical churches and denominations.
The more uncool it becomes to be a biblical church, the more the so-called cool (or, as I call them, compromising) churches will distance themselves from the remnant church. Presently, it is still not as easy for the average person to discern between remnant and compromising churches. (Most folks still lump us all together.)
However, as the heat gets turned up more and more, compromising pastors and churches will choose to accommodate culture and compromise Scripture, thus making a clearer distinction between the remnant and mainstream church. Not only that, these (compromising) pastors and churches will continue to do their best to distance themselves in public from remnant pastors and churches. (This is what happened in Nazi Germany when the nationalistic churches separated from the confessing churches to avoid persecution and death.)
  1. The remnant church will change the world.
Sometimes God allows difficult circumstances to weed out the uncommitted followers from the committed followers. (Read the story of Gideon's army of 300 in Judges 7.) As it was during the days of Elijah, the early church period and the time of the Confessing Remnant Church in Nazi Germany, only the remnant has what it takes to change the world! Only the remnant church has the conviction, the sacrifice, the devotion, the endurance, the message and the power to change the world. The compromising church will enjoy their temporary popularity in the present time, but those who are wise and turn many people unto righteousness will shine as the stars forever and ever (Dan. 12:3).
  1. The remnant church will endure while the compromising church will fade away.
In Malachi 3:16-18 God promises that He has written a book of remembrance for those who speak of Him and fear His Name. The reward for them (the remnant) is that He will spare them as a man spares his son. The implications of this are vast. While the spiritual children of the compromising church will probably become agnostic, the children of the remnant will carry the torch of Christ to the next generation, which will increase in strength and do greater works (John 14:12). The remnant church goes from strength to strength and faith to faith (Rom. 1:17). Meanwhile, the compromising church goes from strength to weakness and from faith to apostasy and eventually into oblivion.
May God help us all remain faithful to the end and participate in the remnant church.

Numbers. They Do Count. Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Numbers.
They Do Count.

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Shim‘on Kefa went up and dragged the net ashore. It was full of fish, 153 of them; but even with so many, the net wasn’t torn.” (John 21:11-12 Complete Jewish Bible)

Have you ever wondered why Scripture says there were 153 fish caught in the net? Why not just use an estimate, such as 150, or even 200, to “evangelistically speak” as some would? Why did the Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) even have the Apostle John record any number, and not just write that Peter “had a lot of fish”?

I often consider these things. Why does the Lord so often use specific numbers when He describes historical facts? He even says He knows the number of hairs on our heads. “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” (Matthew 10:30-31 NKJV)

Do you ever think as to why? Maybe it is just me and my thoughts.

Doing the job as an accountant for my daily work, I am always aware of numbers, and particularly the “bottom line” in the company’s monthly financial reports. Numbers give you a good picture of where you are at, health wise in a business or ministry. As they say, generally speaking, good numbers mean you are doing well, and the employees will get a paycheck come pay day. That’s good!

So why is the Lord Jesus, sitting on His heavenly throne today, caring so much about numbers, and makes sure we do also? I believe it is another reflection of His heart for us, to show us specifically that everything that happens to us in our daily life is fully known by Him. He does care. And He wants you to know that.

Yeshua (Jesus) cares if you only have $49.50 for the groceries needed for these next three days, when the store will tell you those items will cost $52.18. He cares if the $725 rent that is due in seven days is going to be there, and you only have $650 now, and the paycheck isn’t coming until the following Friday. Our Lord cares if your only transportation breaks down. Then the auto shop tells you it will be $824 to fix it. Your checking account says you have $328 and your credit card is almost maxed out. How is it going to get repaired?

Walking in faith is believing He cares for you, even in regards to the very number of hairs on your head, which by the way will need cutting soon, yet another $14.95 (cheap in many places in the USA) in three weeks.

When it looks like you are going to be lacking in what is needed, or when you are lacking in what is needed now, our Bible tells us, in very accurate and historical terms, that we can count on Him to be our Provider, to be Jehovah Jireh (the Lord provides) that He is.

Look back on your life today from where you were a few months ago, a few years, a few decades. Hasn’t He brought you thus far? You have made it, haven’t you? Give thanks to the Lord for that. I do every day.

Jesus didn’t promise us a rose garden. He did promise to lead us in the way we are to go, and by taking that road, His way, His promises are daily proven, and His faithfulness will always be known in our life.

Numbers do count, because we are counted as very important to Him. His love abounds beyond all that we can comprehend in this life.

In a short period of time, known by God the Father, these days are also numbered. Then we, who believe in Jesus the Messiah as our Savior, will be with Him for eternity in heaven. You and I can count on that!

Now think on this, in the love of Jesus,

LOVE FOR HIS PEOPLE FEATURED BOOK

Paperback $5.95 or less
Kindle $1,99

In 2010 the Lord God of Israel, my Savior Jesus Christ (Yeshua HaMashiach), led me to start the ministry we call Love For His People. Its primary purpose is to share the love of the Lord with the nation of Israel, Jews around the world, and the people in all the nations as we can. For that end, through social media, writing and distributing books, and in person ministry, we are seeing the love of Jesus spread.

We are grateful that He has given us much love in order to do just that. We often hear the word “love” spoken out loud, and written about, in many ways. It has contrasting meanings to the wide range of people that exist, as it is expressed in different methods through people. When it has all been said and done, there is an eternal love that will stand the test of fire. Because the biblical expression of love, laying down one’s life for his friends, has eternal value, this love from God the Father to His creation is the type that I most seek after and try to share.

In these short chapters of Arms of Love, which is also the title of a song Laurie and I sang while leading various church worship meetings, and as the lead singers in our Ahava Love Band, I share some aspects of how I believe the Bible speaks of love. For you who are about to read this, my prayer is that your heart will be enlarged with His, and you too will become one, even more, to give love for His people, both Jew and Gentile, both saved and unsaved.

I hope that as you read these chapters, you will become more inspired to spend time with the Lord, experience His heart of love, and share it with our fellow man. The world needs to know the love of God.

Love of the Truth - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Love of the Truth

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” (2 Thessalonians 2:7-10 (NKJV)

In a classic quote many of you have heard spoken on the big screen, from over 20 years ago in the movie, A Few Good Men (1992), Col. Nathan R. Jessep (Jack Nicholson) responded to the fierce questioning of military lawyer Lt. Daniel Kaffee's (Tom Cruise) with this outburst, “You can’t handle the truth!”

Seems like it was a prophetic word recorded back then, as in today’s world truth is what many would consider is whatever you want it to be. Because the one foundational, solid, eternal Word of God has been rejected and replaced with man’s contemporary knowledge, whatever you say, whenever you say it, is now taken as the “gospel truth”, whether it is or not. Many times it is simply a lie.

As the Gospel has been watered down in many assemblies on each Sunday morning, lack of knowing the truth has left a void for anything solid on which to stand on. Therefore, as the tide rolls in and rolls out, as public opinion goes, so does the beach sand on which it flows over.

In Matthew 7:24-27 there are two foundations which Jesus describes, as He graphically reveals what will result, when each building choice is challenged. Did we build on the solid rock or sand?

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.
Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”
Jesus clearly states that rejection of truth, found only in His word, will result in a great fall, when the times of testing come for each person. Either from lack of knowledge or from an earlier specific choice that was made, what happens in each trial experienced will prove the existence of faith in the Son or not.
Our Lord says that each foundation will be tested. Our “house”, that which consists of our spirit, soul and body, will either stand or fall apart, based on decisions we made in the building process, to do our own thing, go the way of the world, or choose the solid truth of the Almighty God’s written Word, as found in the Bible.

Those who had chosen to love the truth will have the ability to withstand the wearing down that comes in trials. Their bedrock faith will be revealed, while even growing more, through those testing times.

Love of the truth will protect us from unrighteous deception, lying wonders, and acts of Satan. We will be able to see through the fog that others have allowed to cover them. We will be able to know what is counterfeit, and what is true. Our discernment will be sharp.

I encourage you to go deeper in your pursuit in getting to know Him Who is Faithful and Ture. Hearing Yeshua’s voice, reading His Word, receiving sound teaching, and walking in obedience will keep your heart, mind and spirit prepared to challenge the lies of the enemy that come daily.

We will especially need to know God’s biblical truth in order to resist falsehood and stand strong in these end times.

Now think on this,

Steve Martin

Prophecy: God Is About to Release Mantles and Impartations of Wisdom - LANA VAWSER CHARISMA NEWS

Prophecy: God Is About to Release Mantles and Impartations of Wisdom

I had an encounter with the Lord recently during which He showed me a representation of many of His people standing before the Lord. Jesus was standing before them in a white robe and gold sandals. I saw such purity over the ones that were standing before Him.
I saw Jesus was holding a crown and it was gold and on fire at the same time. I saw Jesus place it on heads. He then spoke:
"There are great mantles, impartations and significant increases of wisdom being released over you as you have been tried by and through fire and you have been proven faithful and are coming out as gold."
The crown represented not only identity in Him, but also the mantle/increase/impartations of heavenly wisdom being released over lives, but also it was on fire, because there has been a "trying by fire" and now you are carrying the fire of God for revival.
Purity and impartations/mantles/increases of wisdom that are being released now are about to marry in a whole new way. There is going to be a pure form of divine heavenly wisdom into the personal lives and households of many of God's people, and it will flow through these ones on a whole new level.
As the wisdom of God is shared, "suddenlys" will be birthed. There is such a weighty wisdom that is being released across the body of Christ to those who have been positioned, have walked through the fire faithfully and have been asking for His wisdom.
He is pouring out significant increases of this wisdom on many who have "paid the price for wisdom," as many have walked through the fire of trial, the trial of opposition and the fire of pruning and purging. Yet you have kept your face and heart set toward Him as a flint. The purity of heart that has been maintained through the fire is now becoming a platform for the increase of this wisdom.
Many who are receiving the mantle of heavenly wisdom coupled with His fire, not only will you be positioned before many to release significant insight that will bring long-awaited breakthroughs and the breaker anointing released, but I saw a positioning before kings and those of great influence. There is going to be a prophetic sign of the increase of wisdom spreading through the body of Christ as many will begin to see those of influence calling on the people of God for wisdom, insight and strategy.
The days of Joseph and Esther are upon us. Those who have been prepared in the fire and now being catapulted into areas of significant influence for the kingdom of God to release heavenly wisdom.
Stay positioned for the wisdom of God to be released in significant ways over your life as you have been seeking Him for it. As it flows to you and through you, He is going to amaze you with His insight and strategy that bypass the natural. The awe of God is going to be restored in significant ways across the body of Christ as a new level of wisdom will be released, received and implemented.
Trust Him as He releases His wisdom to you. For I saw the Spirit of God speaking and releasing His wisdom which was completely opposite to natural, expected ways. Many are going to find His wisdom in the most unexpected ways and leadings of His Spirit, but will lead His people and those they share with to depths of knowing Him and seeing Him move that they have not experienced before.
Don't fight the leadings. Trust Him completely and go with His flow. It may not make sense as you "step forward." But in taking the steps forward in faith, following His wisdom is going to help you take more steps forward and break more ground than you would have if you followed your natural logic.
I saw many transitioning from the "vein of natural thinking" into the "vein of heavenly wisdom" in alignment with His Word that was flowing from His heart, leading them and those around them to greater life. Many of you may feel as though you are being led into things in a backward way. But by His Spirit, you are moving further forward than ever.
Significant divine ideas, strategies and blueprints carrying the weighty wisdom of God when put into action are going to see some of the most groundbreaking demonstrations of His power and glory released in these days of accelerated breakthrough.

"We're seeing more and more, a government that is silencing and censoring of religious views, of religious beliefs and of religious symbols." So states Mark Sharp, legal counsel for the Alliance for Defense of Freedom, responding to the U.S. Postal Service's announcement that it will offer no new religiously themed holiday stamps this year. In Sharp's view, this is "part of the effort to completely drive religion out of the public square."

If you're looking for bad news in the news, you don't have to look far. California lawmakers have approved legislation permitting euthanasia in their state. The heroin epidemic continues to spread across the nation. The scourge of pornography is growing, especially among children.

It is easy for Christians to be discouraged by the trajectory of our culture. But God is working in surprising ways today.

For instance, Muslim refugees in Berlin are converting to Christianity in remarkable numbers. The Chronicle of Higher Education recently published an article titled "Why We Need to Resurrect Our Souls." The Atlantic (not typically a defender of orthodox Christianity) carried a fascinating essay titled "The False Equation of Atheism and Intellectual Sophistication." We often hear that millennials are leaving the church, but a recent study shows that more traditional or liturgical services have great appeal for young people seeking depth and significance.

None of these stories made front-page news. If we base today's hope on today's headlines, we'll usually be disappointed. But it has always been so. Henri Nouwen writes: "Many people live with the unconscious or conscious expectation that eventually things will get better; wars, hunger, poverty, oppression, and exploitation will vanish; and all people will live in harmony. Their lives and work are motivated by that expectation. When this does not happen in their lifetimes, they are often disillusioned and experience themselves as failures.

"But Jesus doesn't support such an optimistic outlook. He foresees not only the destruction of his beloved city Jerusalem but also a world full of cruelty, violence, and conflict. For Jesus there is no happy ending in this world. The challenge of Jesus is not to solve all the world's problems before the end of time but to remain faithful at any cost."

How do we "remain faithful at any cost"?

In Joe Biden's recent interview with Stephen Colbert, the vice president was transparent about his grief following the death of his son Beau. He said that he and his wife have taped a Kierkegaard quote to the mirror: "Faith sees best in the dark."

Here's the larger context from Kierkegaard's The Gospel of Sufferings: "The believer humanly comprehends how heavy the suffering is, but in faith's wonder that it is beneficial to him, he devoutly says: It is light. Humanly he says: It is impossible, but he says it again in faith's wonder that what he humanly cannot understand is beneficial to him [his emphasis]. In other words, when sagacity [worldly wisdom] is able to perceive the beneficialness, then faith cannot see God; but when in the dark night of suffering sagacity cannot see a handbreadth ahead of it, then faith can see God, since faith sees best in the dark."

To paraphrase: when we understand God's ways, faith is easy. When we do not, faith is essential.

How 'War Room' Became a Biblical Box Office Smash

How 'War Room' Became a Biblical Box Office Smash

Outside of evangelical circles, the names Alex Kendrick and Stephen Kendrick are likely to be met with blank stares.
But thanks to low-budget hits like Fireproof and Courageous, the brothers have transformed themselves into Steven Spielbergs of Christian cinema. Their names above the title are enough to open movies that are firmly pitched to the faithful.
This drawing power was firmly on display when War Room, a celebration of the purpose-driven life, stunned box office watchers by nearly dethroning Straight Outta Compton as the weekend's highest-grossing domestic release with its $11 million debut. That's particularly impressive given that the religious drama was playing on a third of the number of screens as the N.W.A biopic.
"It's a great example of the power of a brand," said Chris Stone, founder of the consumer advocacy group Faith Driven Consumer. "The Kendrick brothers' films have an authenticity with this audience. They have consistently delivered a good product that resonates with the community."
Don't count reviewers among the fans. War Room has a woeful 18 percent "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics like the Los Angeles Times' Michael Rechtshaffen dismissing the film as "mighty long-winded and wincingly overwrought."
Alex Kendrick, a former pastor who handles directing duties on the brothers' films, said the filmmakers are accustomed to the rough notices.
"Critics in Hollywood are rough with us," said Kendrick. "They don't understand why we make our movies or our worldview. But our target audience gets them and that's who we want to draw closer to a walk with God."
War Room, the story of a disintegrating marriage rescued by intense prayer, was produced for a slender $3 million and distributed by Sony's Affirm division. It is on pace to be among the Kendrick brothers' biggest hits, rivaling the $34.5 million brought in by "Courageous" and the $33.5 million generated from Fireproof. It also continues Sony's success with the genre—the studio scored with Soul Surfer and Heaven is for Real, as well as fielded the Kendricks' films.
Credit for War Room's ticket sales surge goes to its cast of African-Americans. That allowed the film to draw from pools of black and white moviegoers, an essential ingredient in its success given that polling shows that African-Americans are more religious than the U.S. population as a whole.
Nearly 90 percent of African-Americans describe themselves as belonging to a religious group, with six out of ten coming from historically black protestant churches and 15 percent hailing from evangelical churches, according to a survey by the Pew Research Center. For War Room, that translated to a racially diverse opening weekend crowd that was 36 percent African-American and 42 percent Caucasian, according to exit data.
Dramatic necessity, not commercial considerations, was at the root of the decision, Kendrick claims.
"When we were working on the plot it just seemed more powerful and passionate when told through the perspective of African-Americans," said Kendrick. "I'm not sure it would have been as heart-grabbing if we hadn't done that."
Getting the word out about the picture involved a massive grassroots effort. Facebook was particularly active, as the film's page attracted more than half a million fans, though its presence on Twitter was only marginal. More important was the work that the Kendricks did to raise awareness. The brothers shot set videos to keep audiences informed about the production and prepared packets that they sent to churches that included materials that could be incorporated into sermons prior to the film's release.
"For the Kendricks, the dialog is ongoing," said Rory Bruer, Sony's distribution chief. "The word gets out there and people are talking about the movie for many months before it opens. It all results in a cool crescendo."
Sony largely steered clear of wider-reaching platforms such as television and paid email marketing, and opted for a more conservative release pattern. Instead of debuting the film on 2,500 screens or more, as it would a typical wide-release, the studio launched it across 1,135 theaters that were heavily weighted toward the South and Midwest, where the populations are more religious.
"Films like this have an intense appeal across a narrow demographic," said Seth Willenson, an industry consultant. "You can reach a targeted audience."
War Room is hardly the first faith-based film to break out. Recent releases like God's Not Dead and Heaven is for Real have routinely affirmed the power of this audience. But when Hollywood has tried to commodify what the Kendricks do, by steering clear of the Biblical literalism and trying to make religious stories palatable for secular crowds, the results have been mixed. Noah made money but kicked up a firestorm of controversy with its departures from the Old Testament, while Exodus: Gods and Kings, an attempt to refashion the story of Moses as a Gladiator-style adventure, flopped.
"We're certainly always grateful for themes of redemption and faith in films," said Kendrick. "Where we have problem is when they take our most respected scripture and twist it in a way that is at odds with our beliefs."
Kendrick hopes that studios will take less artistic license with upcoming religious epics such as Ben-Hur and Risen, the story of a Roman centurion tasked with investigating reports of Jesus' resurrection.
"We're hopeful that these will be faithful to scripture or to the original story, and if they are, we will flock in droves," he said.
