BILL HAMON: Prophetic Ministry Can Empower or Devastate the Church

Prophetic rebuke
Prophetic ministry can empower or destroy the church. (Lightstock )
Note: This article ran in the November 1990 issue of Charisma.
Where are the prophets? In every quarter of the church today we hear that question ringing. Not only in charismatic and Pentecostal churches, but even in the old mainline denominations, Christians are experiencing prophetic ministry, acknowledging prophetic ministers and wondering where the Holy Spirit is headed in these closing years of the 20th century.
I believe that we are actually in the midst of a divinely ordained move of God—what many are calling the prophetic movement. The Holy Spirit has designed this movement to bring full recognition, restoration and activation of prophets and prophetic ministry—within church ministry and structure. The current move of God is in fact an extension of earlier restoration movements throughout the last 500 years that have brought back to the church a number of truths and spiritual experiences that had previously been neglected—in particular, the Protestant, Holiness, Pentecostal and charismatic movements.
Each of these great restoration movements has been more powerful and gained a greater potential for salvation, or self-destruction, than the one before. The process is like the progressive invention of modern warfare weapons, from gunpowder to dynamite to nitroglycerin to nuclear bombs. As the latest and most powerful force and spiritual weapon of warfare being brought forth in the church, the prophetic movement has the most potential for blessing or destruction of any restoration movement during the last five centuries.
If nuclear or laser weapons were to fall into the hands of unprincipled, self-centered terrorists, they would have no scruples about using this power to destroy many lives in furthering their own selfish ends. They would use these weapons to intimidate, manipulate and control people to build their own dictatorial kingdom. In the same way, if a prophetic minister does not have Christ's character, biblical principles of operation, and a right spirit and motivation, he or she has the potential to control and manipulate people with supernatural knowledge, visions, revelations and miracles. False prophets, wrongly motivated ministers and immature believers misusing prophetic ministry can cause great destruction.
On the other hand, with the right character and spirit, prophetic ministers have great power to influence people for God toward unity, obedience, humility and Christlikeness. Thus prophetic ministry can bring life or death, blessing or blasting. Like atomic or laser power, the prophetic can be used for good or evil.
Swings in the Pendulum
When truth is in the process of being restored to the church, it usually swings extremely to the right, then to the left. At last it finally hangs straight with a balanced message, like the pendulum of a grandfather clock, in the middle of the two extremes.
Those who are stuck out on the extreme left become cultic in their doctrines and practices. Those who don't make it back from the extreme right become an exclusive group who separate themselves from the rest of the body of Christ. In between is the group that brings itself together from both extremes to maintain a balance of wisdom and maturity in proper biblical doctrine and practice as God originally intended it to be restored to the church.
At the same time, the "balanced" group may become so protective of the truth and so reactionary toward the extremists that they keep the original form—yet lose the flow of the Holy Spirit. They may keep the purity of the doctrine yet lose the fresh anointing that restored those truths. They may maintain the proper preaching and practices yet lose God's mighty presence and power that originally accompanied the ministry.
Sad to say, church history reveals that this "balanced" group usually becomes the main persecutors of the next restorational movement of the Holy Spirit. They establish "wineskins" of doctrinal limitations with regard to what, when, where, who and how the truth can be ministered. Their wineskins become dry and set with such limitations that they cannot receive the new wine of restored truth that adds new dimensions to the church.
For that reason, we must keep our wineskins flexible so that we can go from movement to movement of the Holy Spirit, incorporating into our personal lives and our churches all that God wants to restore to His church (2 Cor. 3:18). At the same time, we must not become vulnerable to extremism and fanaticism. As the apostle Peter declared, we must continually "be established in the present truth" without forsaking any of the truths and practices that have already been restored (2 Pet. 1:12). Jesus said that a wise scribe is one who brings out of his treasure chest treasures both old and new (Matt. 13:52).
The true apostles and prophets called to pioneer the prophetic movement will do all they can to maintain balance and to keep prophetic ministers from doing foolish things that bring reproach and disgrace upon the movement as a whole. But none of the past restoration movements were able to prevent abuses and extremes totally, and neither will we be able to do so.
In the Protestant Reformation, for example, some groups reacting to Catholic control became extremely lawless. In the Holiness movement, some extremists succumbed to the bondage of legalism. Among the early Pentecostals, some went so far as to teach that speaking in tongues was necessary for salvation. And most of us are familiar with the past charismatic extremes in demonology, discipleship and prosperity teaching.
Every movement will manifest some people who are biblically uneducated and who never become birthed in the present truth. There will always be those emotionally unstable and spiritually immature people who cannot handle the truth and thus exhibit weird behavior. And there will always be charlatans, false ministers and others who are wrongly motivated, looking for an opportunity to promote themselves and to profit from the movement.
Abuses to Avoid
As with every move of God, the prophetic movement will produce its share of abuses when people carry it too far or totally misapply the truths God is restoring. God's Spirit is pure and restores unadulterated truth and ministry, but such truth and ministry are poured into earthen vessels that can be faulty (2 Cor. 4:7). So I want to raise a warning against perverting the truths being restored or using them for personal gain or for other ungodly purposes.
I believe that several specific cautions are necessary at this point as Christians seek to maintain integrity and balance in the prophetic movement:
Overemphasis on personal prophecy. Some Christians will think they need a "word from the Lord" to make every major and minor decision. They will no longer depend on their personal convictions, the Holy Spirit's leadings, or pastoral counsel and wisdom to walk daily before the Lord. In some lives, personal prophecy will replace personal prayer and hearing from God for oneself.
This is not of the Lord. Personal prophecy has a valid place in the church and in the lives of individual Christians, but it was never intended to be a "quick fix" or a replacement for seeking God.
Elevating prophecy to the level of Scripture. Another form that abuse will take is an elevation of contemporary prophecy to the same level of authority and inspiration as the written Word of God, causing cultic groups who esteem prophetic utterance as Scripture. All orthodox Christians, however, believe that the Scriptures are complete and sufficient, and will reject all extrabiblical revelation claiming authority equal to the Bible,
Ministering out from under authority. Some Christians will begin to prophesy in places other than those their church leadership has sanctioned as appropriate. I call these "parking lot prophecies," in which people draw others outside of meetings to prophesy strange things to them.
I believe it's critical that all prophecies be given only under spiritual oversight, and also that they be tape-recorded. This allows the local eldership to adjust or correct any words that are false, wrongly applied or untimely, thus saving, the person who is receiving the prophecy from confusion or misunderstanding. Sadly enough, some who are new to this movement will prophesy helter-skelter without allowing their words to be weighed and evaluated (1 Cor. 14:31; 1 Thess. 5:21). Because the prophetic ministry has the power either to bless or curse, all words must be witnessed to and judged by those who are spiritually mature and are in oversight in the local assembly.
Using prophecy to justify rebellion and sin. The charismatic movement caused many prayer groups and unstructured meetings to break themselves off from the church. Some were of God, as the Holy Spirit poured out new wine that old wineskins couldn't contain, causing inevitable splits. But many others were just rebellious groups who wanted to do their own thing without any oversight.
The prophetic movement will see a continuation of this trend, with personal prophecy used as a tool to justify rebellious factions and groups. When confronted by spiritual authority, some will say "God told me," and will produce as evidence several prophecies they gave themselves or which were given by others who endorse their group or ministry. God never intended prophecy to judge doctrinal or disciplinary matters, and He certainly has not appointed certain saints in the church to straighten out everybody else through their spiritual ministry.
Control and manipulation through prophecy. Some ministers or leaders who already have a problem with being controlling will use the gift of prophecy to dictate "orders from God" to those under them. The abuses of the discipleship movement may pale in comparison to this abuse of personal prophecy. Ministers will prophesy to people about whom to marry, which job to get, and when and where to move, all in the name of "spiritual revelation."
Scores of ignorant and immature believers will follow such leaders because they seem to prophesy the word of the Lord and have signs following their ministry. Moses told the Israelites the reason God allows such things to take place: "The Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul" (Deut 13:3; NKJV). So Christians must understand the difference between obeying the word of the Lord and getting confirmation of major moves and life's decisions.
Using the prophetic gift for personal gain. This abuse of deceit will take two forms as people flock to prophetic ministry because God's anointing is upon it. First, many will hold "prophetic conferences" that are prophetic in name only. They will be more interested in drawing people in to pay large seminar fees to bolster their churches' finances than in ministering prophetically to the people. We will hear the word "prophetic" hung like a tag on nearly everything in the church as some try to manipulate people into becoming a part of ministries that are not at all prophetic.
The second form of this abuse is as ancient as Balaam, who tried to prophesy for his own personal gain. Even now certain ones prophesy, "Thus saith the Lord, God is saying if you will support His servant with a one-time gift of $1,000, He will surely bless you." Thousands of gullible Christians will send their money, thinking the man is speaking for God. In the end, however, these false prophets will be exposed as charlatans and judged for making merchandise of the gift of God.
Trying to fulfill personal prophecy out of proper timing. Many Christians who receive true personal prophecies about some great ministry or life situation will misunderstand God's dealing over a period of time and run out to try to fulfill their prophecy in their own strength. If God tells them prophetically that they will be raised up as a great pastor, prophet or apostle, they will run out and print up business cards with titles and proclaim themselves as God's wonder-workers.
Others who are called to be financial stewards for the kingdom of God will rush into business situations based on a personal prophecy because they think one prophecy will cause them to prosper in all their endeavors. The results will be broken contracts, bankruptcy and ruined lives.
When a true prophecy is spoken to an individual, God intends to accomplish that prophecy at some point in that person's life, not necessarily in the following week or month. Christians must learn to wait on the timing of the Lord.
Presumptuous, critical and judgmental prophesying. One of the greatest dangers and abuses of the prophetic movement will be people prophesying presumptuously or critically. For some reason, folks with a critical or negative spirit seem to flock to prophetic ministry, feeling that congregational or personal prophecy is their platform to blast everyone else for living in sin, directly implying that they themselves are the true standard for righteousness. I have seen and heard many who felt they were God's lone prophet in the wilderness, proclaiming righteousness while the rest of the church was wicked and sinful (see Deut. 18:20-22).
I have found, however, that the result of such prophesying is bitter, fruitless and condemning. God has not anointed any sheriffs in the kingdom of God to judge and condemn others, and I believe He rarely, if ever, uses immature believers to give a true word of rebuke and correction. This will be left instead to the mature person whom God can trust with hard words that need to be delivered in the spirit of humility and healing.
Abuses Have Already Begun
My spirit is grieved when I see and hear how some are already abusing the truths and ministries being restored by the prophetic movement. Even now, there are those with television programs who are using the ministry of prophesying to manipulate people to give them financial support. They close their eyes and point their finger and say, "The Lord says" or "The Lord shows me" that someone is to send them a certain amount of money. If the Lord ever did anoint them to prophesy in the first place, then that anointing left when they started using the gift for personal promotion.
I was shocked and disgusted when I heard another television personality say, "Write to me, and I will send you your personal prophecy tape for personal prosperity." I sent for it just so I could hear for myself what was being said. It was a soulish sham of using prophetic ministry to manipulate and motivate people to support his ministry.
I sometimes wish I had the power to close the mouths of such ministers. But then the Lord reminds me of what Paul told the Corinthian church: "There must be also heresies among you, that they who are approved may be made manifest among you" (1 Cor. 11:19, KJV). In relation to this movement, that means there must be false prophets, the ignorant, the immature and the wrongly motivated prophetic ministers who are improperly using the office of the prophet and the ministry of prophesying, so that those who are true and proper may be made manifest as the true prophetic ministers within Christ's church. Jesus said we must let the tares grow along with the wheat until the time of the harvest (Matt. 13:24-30).
Let All Things Be Done
Paul declared, "Let all things be done decently and in order" (1 Cor. 14:40). But there is no need for decency and order unless something is being done. The emphasis should be placed on the first five words in this statement as much as it is on the last four. Let all things be done!
The preacher of old declared that the only way to have a totally clean stall was not to have an ox in it—thus losing the benefit of the ox's labor (Prov. 14:4). So it is with the prophetic movement. If we want the benefit of prophetic ministry in the church, we must expect a few messes in the "stall" as some believers demonstrate a lack of balance, integrity or maturity.
The ones who do not manifest the truth as God intended will not make it back to the middle from the extreme swings of the pendulum of restored truth. But those who have the heart of God and the mind of Christ for this movement will proceed with proper prophetic procedures and practices—bringing the church closer to full restoration, maturity and triumph.
For the month of August we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of Charisma.

Discerning the Progressive Applications of Your Prophetic Revelations

Stairs
How has the fruition of your prophetic word progressively come to pass? (Flickr/mark sebastian )

Prophetic Insight, from Charisma Media
If you've kept record of your prophetic words over the years, you've probably noticed that at least some of these revelations played out a little differently—or maybe a lot differently—than you expected. You also may be experiencing what I call the progressive application of your prophetic revelation.
In other words, when you received the prophetic word you applied it to your life or ministry in the best way you knew how at the time. That application wasn't wrong, but it may not have been the fullness of God's prophetic intent. Often, it takes years for a prophetic word to realize its full manifestation. You take steps toward it as the prophetic revelation unfolds.
I've experienced this a number of times in the last decade alone. You could look at it as God connecting the dots of your prophetic destiny, but it runs deeper than that. When you experience progressive application of a prophetic revelation, you're essentially growing into the prophetic word. At first you didn't have the capacity to walk in the completeness of what the Lord was saying, so you entered into a training ground that allowed you to apply the principles of the prophetic word on a smaller scale.
The Ezra Revelation
One of the best examples I can offer from my personal life is what I now affectionately refer to as the "Ezra revelation." In Ezra 4 we discover the work on the house of God in Jerusalem ceased after much resistance and opposition. After some time, the restoration of the temple resumed with prophets playing a key role.
"Then the prophet Haggai and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophets, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them. So Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak rose up and began to build the house of God which is in Jerusalem; and the prophets of God were with them, helping them" (Ezra 5:1-2).
When I saw this Scripture, the Lord spoke to my heart about the role of prophetic ministry in building—or rebuilding, as it were—God's house. I was convinced the application was a weekly meeting with the prophets in our congregation during which we could pray and seek the Lord for prophetic strategies about building the local church. That wasn't wrong, but 10 years later I see the prophetic revelation God was pouring into my heart was about more than one local church—it has to do with an awakening in America.
The Ezekiel Revelation
Another strong example of revisiting the application of your prophetic words is what I affectionately refer to as the "Ezekiel revelation." I was on a difficult missions trip in Latin America when the Lord directed me to Ezekiel 3 and then to Ezekiel 33. Ezekiel 3 is when God called Ezekiel to be watchman and gave him a mandate:
"Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me: When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die,' and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul" (Ezek. 3:17-19).
A similar command is found in Ezekiel 33:7-9. When I read these verses the fear of the Lord struck my heart. I knew that I needed to be faithful to step out and share the prophetic warnings I was receiving during that season of my ministry, even though nobody really wanted to hear them. I had no understanding at the time that I would pen a Watchman on the Wall column that would sound the alarm in the nations of the Earth.
We Know in Part
Here's the lesson—and it's an important one for every believer whether you move in prophetic ministry, receive personal prophecy in a prayer line, or just hear the still small voice of God for yourself: We know in part and we prophesy in part (see 1 Cor. 13:9-12). We see through a glass darkly (1 Cor. 13:12). Revelation is progressive, and prophetic words can unfold over time with deeper application.
Record the prophetic words, dreams and visions you receive and seek to put the truth within them into practice today. But don't stop there. Refer back to your journals over time, and you may see clearly how the Lord has shifted dynamics to bring you into a deeper application of that prophetic revelation.
Overall, move with the Holy Spirit at the level you are now and always expect Him to take you deeper than where you are. God is able to "do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Eph. 3:20). Instead of limiting the application of your prophetic words, remain open to new revelations that will take you deeper into His will.

Are You Called as a Prophet? Here Are 2 Ways to Know - Jennifer LeClaire

The Plumb Line, by Jennifer LeClaire

potter's wheel
There is a lot of confusion regarding the call into prophetic ministry. Many Christians are looking for confirmation. I get email frequently from people asking, "How can I tell if I am called to be a prophet?" This is an important question. In order to walk worthy of your calling, you first need to be confident God has called you. Once you are sure, you can count the cost and decide whether or not to embrace the spiritual battle that lies ahead.
Although I generally discount "checklists" that tell you whether or not you are an apostle or prophet or operate in some other ministry gifting, there are practical ways for believers to confirm a prophetic calling in their own hearts, which we will discuss in this chapter. And it is safe to say that if you are called into prophetic ministry, mature leaders around you will recognize that call eventually.
There are exceptions to that last point. Some pastors are too insecure to recognize the gifts and callings of those in their midst. But if you are called into prophetic ministry, be assured that people will discern that call in due season. You do not have to make an announcement, try to show off your prophetic gifts or otherwise strive to let people know. God will make it apparent in His time. In fact, waiting for Him to reveal your gifting in public ministry is part of the making process, the course of Holy Spirit training, teaching and practical experience that you will learn about through the pages of this book.
So, are you called into prophetic ministry? Here are two important points to help you address this question.
First, perhaps you received a prophetic word announcing your calling. That could well have been an authentic word, but take the time to look for further confirmation. I have seen prophetic words send sincere believers on spiritual goose chases for gifts and callings that Jesus did not impart. It is sad to see people hold tightly to an erroneous word they believe is genuine and miss God's true call for their lives.
Second, perhaps you are consistently seeing revelatory gifts—such as words of wisdom, words of knowledge and discerning of spirits—manifesting in your ministry. That gives you a hint of your Kingdom vocation. It is actually a better indication that you are called to prophetic ministry than an announcement spoken, say, at the altar by a visiting prophet.
In the King James Version of Ephesians 4:1, Paul urges us to "walk worthy of the vocation wherewith [we] are called."
That word vocation gives us insight into how a calling of God manifests. Another word for vocation is occupation.
Think about it this way: Doctors are educated and trained to practice medicine. That is what they do day in and day out. And they do not just practice medicine at work. They practice medicine at home when someone in the family gets sick. They practice medicine in a restaurant if someone passes out and they hear the cry "Is there a doctor in the house?" Even when doctors retire, they remember the Hippocratic Oath they swore to uphold. Whether they are in the church, the marketplace or the home front, doctors are doctors.
Likewise, if you are called as a prophet, it is an occupation. You cannot turn off the instinct to stand in the office of the prophet any more than a physician can turn off the instinct to help people heal. If you are called to prophetic ministry, you will walk in the revelatory gifts as a way of life, not just occasionally. You will feel the unction to walk in prophetic gifts consistently.
If you have this ministry gift of being a prophet, what might it look like? We will study this in greater detail in later chapters, but, generally, the purpose of prophecy is to reveal the heart, mind and will of God.
Modern-day prophetic ministry is more than the usual public perception. It is more than prophesying over people in prayer lines. It is more than having dreams, visions and angelic visitations. Far more. Modern-day prophets are reformers, like John the Baptist. Prophetic ministry should bring positive change and hope. A reformation mindset is part of what it means to be prophetic. Prophets have reformation in their DNA.
Modern-day prophets are called to prepare a people for the Lord by pointing them to an intimate relationship with Jesus (see John 3:29), equipping them to discern His voice (see Ephesians 4:11–12), speaking words of warning or correction that God gives them (see Matthew 3:2–3) and standing in the gap between man and God (see Ezekiel 22:30). Usually this latter function takes place through intercession. Not all intercessors are prophets, but all prophets are intercessors. It is part of the prophetic priestly duty to make intercession. The first time you see the word prophet in the Bible, it is in connection with intercession (see Genesis 20:7). You cannot separate the prophet from prayer because prayer is the prophet's connection with God and His will.
Modern-day prophetic ministry involves turning the hearts of the fathers toward the sons and the hearts of the sons toward the fathers (see Malachi 4:5–6). The Amplified translation calls this turning a "reconciliation produced by repentance of the ungodly." Prophetic ministry, thus, turns the hearts of believers toward the matters of the Father's heart. Often, that means a cry for repentance as modern-day prophetic ministry works to separate the holy from the profane (see Ezekiel 42:20).
If you are called as a prophet, you will feel moved to root out and to pull down and to destroy and to throw down and to build and to plant (see Jeremiah 1:10). Intense spiritual warfare will be a frequent reality in your life. You will have a sense—a "knowing"—that you are being called to walk a narrower path than some around you. You will feel a sense of duty to honor God's will and be crushed with godly sorrow when you misstep.

Boomerang Revelation Creates Mercy - Jim Croft

Boomerang Revelation Creates Mercy - Jim Croft

I never ceased to be amazed by the dynamics of spiritual revelation.  Every week for many years I have written articles on topics that come to me by visions.  My focus is to assist the Body of Christ as best I can in understanding the Scriptures and the flow of the Holy Spirit in their lives.  The Lord rewards me in many ways, for all of which I’m grateful.  But, there is one way that he does so that is particularly gratifying.

It is when a dear saint responds by letting me know that whatever I offered was written as though it was God’s personal message just for them at a given moment.   No other deity that mankind worships exhibits the intimate affections of our caring Father God.  Even though a prophetic servant might not know specifically who is to be the focus of a given revelation; nevertheless, the Lord’s Spirit delivers its encouragement to the intended heart.  I’ll give you an example that I hope turns out to boomerang bless the launcher as a recipient as well as the initial target who in this case was me.

I was a guest speaker at one of James W. Goll’s prophetic conferences.  He humbles me by referring to me as one of his mentors.  On the last night of the conference, James followed me with the final message.  At about 10:30pm, James paused in the middle of a sentence.

“Well, isn’t that cute and wonderful? A couple in their mid-50’s who never thought that they’d marry again, just got engaged.”  James commented in several ways about how sweet the scene was and then picked-up his sermon where he had left off.

The following morning I was to preach at a church that was miles away.  I was the only person there who had heard the spontaneous revelatory insertion from James the previous night.  A giggling couple in their mid-50s said they had an announcement.

“We didn’t dream that it could ever happen to us again.  Last night at 10:30pm, we got engaged!”

I thanked the Lord for affirming my conviction that genuine prophets hear and see happenings by the Spirit to which others are not privy.  I genuinely thought that the revelation was just for my edification.  Five years later, I have reason to believe that the Lord planted the revelation in my spiritual garden to have somewhat of a boomerang effect on behalf of James Goll.

James Goll, Encounters Network Founder

For those unfamiliar with James, his sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s encouraging words is legendary.   He carries a prophetic disposition that I wish was more common.  He is not one to point shame’s finger at everybody for disappointing and angering Almighty God.  James’ style is to convince people of God’s goodness in a manner that incites deeper commitment to holiness and to God’s purposes.  I’ve never met any minister who has chosen to be so cheerful and productive in the face of grievous battles.  One of which was the loss his precious wife, Michal Ann to cancer.

James has had back pains for years.  Last spring the pains became so excruciating that he had stop all travel ministry to seek healing therapy.   This led to major back surgery on Tuesday, June 3.

The surgeon reported that though the surgery went well, there was a lot more scraping required than anticipated on the L5 and S1 discs.  This was to make more room for the sciatic nerve to breathe and function without pain.  All of this means that James will need perhaps three more months to regain normal mobility.
For this reason a Mercy Medical Fund has been setup.  I entreat you to be as generous as possible with the Body of Christ’s and my dear friend, James W. Goll.

Love For His People Editor's Note: We have known James since at least 1987. He gave me a clear prophetic word in 1990 that really encouraged me at the time in my ministry placement.

We have given to the Mercy Medical Fund to assist James, and encourage you to do the same.

Bonnie Jones: Warning: Don't Miss The Boat! - The Elijah List

Bonnie Jones:
The Elijah List

Bob and Bonnie JonesIn a vision I saw a small sailboat on the glistening, moonlit water at night; it was just ready to leave shore. Just as everyone was boarding, a woman ran back to take care of her unfinished business. The people cried out to her with a warning: "The boat is leaving now!" She continued on her way while the boat drifted away from shore.

Suddenly she turned around and frantically ran toward the water, but it was too late. She missed the boat. The passengers had no oars and couldn't return to shore to get her. She watched hopelessly from the shore as they drifted away into the moonlight.

Then I heard the Lord say, "Ready or not, here I come! Those who diligently seek the Lord will board this boat guided by the wind of the Holy Spirit!"

Don't miss the boat!Faith is lifting our sails in this day as the Holy Spirit of Truth is leading us. No longer can we follow after agendas, patterns, and formulas; we must be totally reliant on the Holy Spirit to guide us.

(Photo via Wikimedia Commons)

I believe this woman represents Christians that truly love the Lord, yet they remain carnally minded. They continue using their natural senses instead of becoming spiritually minded. Therefore they still desire to feed their flesh, and when the Lord calls, their desire will always be to take care of the natural business first instead of doing the will of the Father.

Testing Of The Heart

There's a testing of our hearts taking place right now, and the outcome will be according to our decision. God will not violate our free will and we must live with the consequence of the choice we make. Will we follow after Him or continue on our own path according to our fleshly desires?

When Elijah found Elisha and threw his mantle on him, Elisha's first response was to run back and kiss his parents goodbye, then he would follow Elijah (see 1 Kings 19:20). Elisha was functioning in the carnal realm, or natural senses. And being a good son, his first response would be to honor his parents and tell them he was departing to follow after and be trained by this powerful man of God. Elisha, like the woman that missed the boat, had a choice to make. Elijah put him to the test, just like we are being tested today.

Will you follow after Me or follow after your own fleshly desires?

Will you follow? So Elijah left there and found Elisha son of Shaphat, whose plowing was being done with twelve yoke of oxen, and he drove the twelfth. Elijah crossed over to him and cast his mantle upon him. He left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, "Let me kiss my father and mother, and then I will follow you."

And he [testing Elisha] said, "Go on back. What have I done to you? [Settle it for yourself.]" So Elisha went back from him. Then he took a yoke of oxen, slew them, boiled their flesh with the oxen's yoke [as fuel], and gave to the people, and they ate. Then he arose, followed Elijah, and served him. 1 Kings 19:19-21 AMP

Elijah heard directly from God. But God was not in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire. The Lord was in the still, small voice. Today God is stretching forth His hand the second time to deliver the keys of David into the hand of the righteous who have followed the Father in spirit and truth. They have forsaken all others for the work of the Cross of Jesus Christ.

The Fiery Sword

We've come to the place in history being written that God will rewrite what man has done in his own will. God is sending forth a fiery sword out of the mouth of His true prophets in this day that will cause division. It is His division that conquers the false, because truth will trump the false every time. It may not look like it at first, but watch as God begins a small work and brings increase through the nations of the world. He's coming in power in this day and we must be ready to move quickly.

There is no obstacle in our life that God can't cover or remove.

Warrior's Heart by Jennifer PageThe Book of Jude gives a warning about the false teachers that would creep in unnoticed for the purpose of turning God's grace into lewdness and deny the Lord (see verse 4). They are dreamers that defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of whatever they do not know because they don't know the person of the Word.

They have never established a personal relationship with the Lord, and therefore operate from the flesh. And because they lack personal relationship with God and the desire to know His will, they corrupt themselves. Therefore they fall into apostasy and cause others to stumble (see verses 8-10).

Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. Jude 11

We're given three examples in the above verse, and I believe it is a progression. Man begins with hatred in his heart that leads to greed, and in time, as they mature in the nature of the evil one, it manifests itself in rebellion. Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft (see 1 Samuel 15:23), and God rejects those who partake of it.
The Way Of Cain: Cain had enmity in his heart. It was a deep-rooted hatred toward his brother that in time caused Cain to murder Abel. Cain's hatred and jealousy toward Abel was greater than his love for God. He had a choice to make. He chose to satisfy his flesh instead of following after God's heart and ruling over his fleshly desire. Cain had never established personal relationship with the Father, where I believe Abel did. That is why God rejected his offering.
If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it. Genesis 4:7

Greed leads to rebellionThe Error Of Balaam For Profit: Balaam was a soothsayer who mixed truth with false doctrine. His error was greed, or covetousness, because he was paid well to bring a curse upon the people of Israel. God's anger was kindled against him when he disobeyed Him and later withstood the Angel of the Lord three times. Balaam repented and brought the word of the Lord, refusing to curse Israel (see Numbers 22-23).

The Rebellion Of Korah: Korah rejected true leadership, causing many to perish. He was one of the richest leaders of the Levites and a cousin of Moses and Aaron. He was jealous and felt overlooked for leadership, and therefore gathered 250 leaders of the assembly to rebel against Moses and Aaron. This angered God and He separated the holy from the profane. God did a new thing (see Numbers 16:30-32) and the earth opened up its mouth and swallowed them and their households – and a fire consumed the rest of the 250 men (see Numbers 16).

Crossroads In Time
Crossroads in timeThe Body of Christ has come to a crossroads in time, a juncture on their heavenly journey in the Lord. Each one must decide for themselves which way to go. Some will want to turn back for fear of the unknown, yet others will proceed in faith.

It is there that God meets them head-on, and they will move into a new dimension in Him. Those who choose to proceed in faith must be space aviators and explore the uncharted waters of the Spirit.

The Lord is coming for His Bride without spot or wrinkle. She will be scarred from the many battle wounds she sustained, but she will be worthy as she praises Him. The world has set itself on a course of self-destruction, and day-by-day she lingers in her own filth. But His Bride will be set aside, a glory to be witnessed as she stands out among the rest.

Don't miss the boat. Step out in faith and follow God with a whole heart. Let Him be the Master that steers you through uncharted waters by the winds of His Holy Spirit of Truth and witness the new dimensions in Him.

Just dare to believe!

For the times in which we live, it is imperative to know the Lord's voice. We all hear in part and know in part. Therefore, our job is to cultivate a personal relationship with God—one that is based on our own experiences rather than those of others.
The key to walking in peace and true joy is becoming like Him.
