Purim - Feast of Lots By Mary Fairchild

Feast of Lots

Bible Feasts:

Paul said in Colossians 2:16-17 that the Jewish feasts and celebrations were actually a shadow of the things to come through Jesus Christ. And though as Christians we may not commemorate these holidays in the traditional biblical sense, as we discover the significance of each, we will certainly gain a greater knowledge of God's Word, an improved understanding of the Bible, and a deeper relationship with the Lord.
Feast of Lots - Purim:

The Feast of Lots, or Purim, commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people through the heroism of Queen Esther in Persia. The name Purim, or "lots," was most likely given to this festival in a sense of irony, because Haman, the enemy of the Jews, had plotted against them to completely destroy them by casting the lot (Esther 9:24). Today Jews not only celebrate this great deliverance on Purim, but also the continued survival of the Jewish race.

Time of Observance:

Today Purim is celebrated on day 14 of the Hebrew month of Adar (February or March). Originally Purim was established as a two-day observance (Esther 9:27).

• See Bible Feasts Calendar for actual dates.
Scripture Reference: The story of Purim is recorded in the Old Testament book of Esther.

About Purim:

Photo from the movie "One Night With The King"

During his third year of reign over the Persian Empire, King Xerxes (Ahasuerus) was ruling from his royal throne in the city of Susa (southwestern Iran), and he held a banquet for all his nobles and officials. When summoned to appear before him, his beautiful wife, Queen Vashti, refused to come. As a result she was forever banished from the King's presence, and a new Queen was sought from among the most beautiful young virgins of the kingdom.

Mordecai, a Jew from the tribe of Benjamin, had been living as an exile in Susa at the time. He had a cousin named Hadassah, whom he had adopted and raised as his own daughter after her parents had died. Hadassah, or Esther, meaning "star" in Persian, was lovely in form and features, and she found favor in the eyes of the King and was chosen among hundreds of women to become Queen in the place of Vashti.

Meanwhile, Mordecai uncovered a plot to have the King assassinated and told his cousin Queen Esther about it. She in turn, reported the news to the King, and gave the credit to Mordecai.

Later on Haman, an evil man, was given the highest seat of honor by the King, but Mordecai refused to kneel down and pay him honor. This greatly angered Haman, and knowing that Mordecai was a Jew, a member of the race he hated, Haman began to plot a way to destroy all of the Jews throughout Persia. Haman convinced King Xerxes to issue a decree for their annihilation.
Up until this time, Queen Esther had kept her Jewish heritage a secret from the King. Now Mordecai encouraged her to go into the King's presence and beg for mercy on behalf of the Jews.

Believing that God had prepared her for this very moment in history—"for such a time as this"—as a vessel of deliverance for her people, Esther urged all of the Jews in the city to fast and pray for her. She was about to risk her own life to request an audience with the King.

Photo: "One Night With The King"

When she appeared before King Xerxes he was pleased to listen to Esther and grant whatever request she might have. When Esther revealed her identity as a Jew and then pleaded for her own life and the lives of her people, the King became enraged with Haman and had him and his sons hanged on the gallows (or impaled on a wooden pole).

King Xerxes reversed his previous order to have the Jewish people destroyed, and gave Jews the right to assemble and protect themselves. Mordecai then received a place of honor in the King's palace as second in rank and encouraged all Jews to participate in an annual celebration of feasting and joy, in remembrance of this great salvation and turn of events. By Queen Esther's official decree, these days were established as a lasting custom called Purim, or the Feast of Lots.

Jesus and the Feast of Lots:

Purim is a celebration of God's faithfulness, deliverance and protection. Although the Jews were sentenced to death by King Xerxes' original decree, through Queen Esther's courageous intervention and willingness to face death, the people's lives were spared. Similarly, all of us who have sinned have been issued a decree of death, but through the intervention of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the old decree has been satisfied and a new proclamation of eternal life has been established:

Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord." (NLT)

More Facts About Purim

Purim is still joyously celebrated today among Jews with the reading of entire book of Esther in the synagogue. Using noisemakers, people loudly cheer at the mention of Mordecai's name and sounds of hissing, stamping of feet and booing can be heard when Haman's name is spoken.

Hamantashen is a traditional Jewish treat eaten during Purim. It has three corners and represents Haman's hat.

It is common to see Purim plays reenacting the story of Esther on Purim. Street parades and carnivals have also become popular, and people dress up in costumes symbolizing Esther's concealed identity.
Jews are required on Purim to give gifts to the poor.

Theodore Roosevelt and Palestine -- "Bully for You!"

Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States (1901-1909), played a vital role in turning the United States into a global power. As president, he showed concern for the Jews of North Africa and Czarist Russia.  After his presidency, he expressed strong support for the emergence of a Jewish state in Palestine.

Roosevelt's first contact with the Jews of Palestine was as a teenager when his family toured the Middle East in 1872-1873. A perspicacious young man, Roosevelt wrote a diary of his trip which included his observations of the Jews' prayer at the Western Wall.

As a young politician, Roosevelt served as police commissioner of New York City, a role that brought him into contact with the Jewish community of New York.  One young immigrant, Otto Raphael, was encouraged by Roosevelt to become a New York policeman, and the two men maintained a close friendship until Roosevelt died.  See Officer Otto Raphael: A Jewish Friend of Theodore Roosevelt by Nancy Schoenburg.

As president and a former secretary of the navy, Roosevelt was quick to resort to "gunboat diplomacy," especially in the Middle East. In Power, Faith and Fantasy, Amb. Michael B. Oren notes that as part of his negotiations over the rule of Morocco, the president "secured his country's customary concerns in the area, protecting North African Jews from oppression and American merchants from unfair restrictions and fees."

Roosevelt also issued a strong letter of rebuke to the Russian Czar in 1903 after the murder of 49 Jews during a pogrom in Kishinev.

Oren's opus on America and the Middle East also cites correspondence by Roosevelt in 1918 in which he wrote, "It seems to me that it is entirely proper to start a Zionist State around Jerusalem."  In another letter, the former president stated, "[T]here can be no peace worth having" until Armenian and Arabs are granted independence"and the Jews given control of Palestine."

Abbas Only Talking Peace to Free Terrorists

REVEALED: Abbas Only Talking Peace to Free Terrorists

Monday, March 10, 2014 |  Ryan Jones ISRAEL TODAY
The Palestinian Authority acknowledged on Sunday that it is only continuing to take part in US-brokered peace talks with Israel in order to secure the release of more jailed Palestinian terrorists.
As one of the conditions for getting the Palestinians to the negotiating table in the first place, Israel agreed to four prisoner releases, the fourth of which is scheduled to take place at the end of this month.
Speaking to Israel’s Army Radio on Sunday, chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said that he had urged Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to pull out of the peace talks as the Palestinians were clearly not going to have 100 percent of their demands met.
But, Erekat revealed, Abbas is determined to maintain the ruse of genuinely negotiating peace until the fourth prisoner release occurs. Abbas has made securing the release of thousands of jailed Palestinian terrorists a central component of his hoped-for political legacy.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters on Sunday that given the wide gaps that remain between the Israeli and Palestinian positions, it would require at least another year of serious negotiations to reach an agreement.
Since Israel is unwilling to compromise on its security, and the Palestinians refuse to give an inch on their demands, Netanyahu is said to be considering a number of creative solutions, including one modeled on the complicated border agreements that exist between Belgium and the Netherlands.
Netanyahu has already stated that Israel would never again forcibly uproot Jewish civilians, meaning that if a Palestinian state is established, tens of thousands of Jewish settlers, at least, will either have to move willingly inside Israel proper, or be allowed to live as residents or citizens of said Palestinian state.
That prospect has not sat well with either Israelis or Palestinians.
A third way is the adoption of the Belgium-Netherlands model. There is a portion of the Dutch-Belgian border where both nations maintain sovereign enclaves within the territory of the other (mostly Belgian enclaves inside the Netherlands). In fact, in one area, there are even Dutch enclaves inside the Belgian enclaves.
The idea is to enable Netanyahu to keep his promise to not uproot any Jews, while still giving the Palestinians a largely-contiguous state.

"Patience. Just Wait A Minute." - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Patience. Just Wait A Minute (or longer).
by Steve Martin

“Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ (Messiah).” (2 Thess. 3:5 NKJV)

Patience doesn’t develop overnight. Awesome reality, right? It takes a few minutes to develop.

Those of you who remember the Polaroid cameras, with the “instant” photos (back in the 1960’s) knew you had to wait a while for the white paper to turn color. If we wanted the best picture possible, having that technology then, we had to wait about three minutes. For this generation, the digital photo is right there on your smartphone the second you take it. No wonder our grandkids don’t know how to wait!

When I read in Scripture the verse I shared above, I was amazed at just the thought of how much patience the Lord Yeshua (Jesus) really does have. Think of it for a moment. Paul prays that the Lord would direct our hearts into the patience of Christ, our Messiah. For that patience to be continually ongoing and be manifested towards us and through us.

The Lord has waited until now for you to do that which He instructed you to do last week. He is still waiting for you to complete the job He gave you last month. And that assignment you are still working on from 10 years ago? Yes, He is still waiting. His patience is beyond our human understanding.

I have an old photo of the Grand Canyon, mounted on the front of a piece of wood so it can hang on the wall. It has thus been on my wall for a few decades now. The caption reads, “God’s work takes time.” What an image! It certainly does! (I should put it next to the old generational photos of our ancestral families Laurie has hanging in our home’s main entrance hallway. His creation of them took some time too!)

Community in the last days will consist of people who are walking in patience. We will have learned that God’s work takes time, but that He is always on time. Never early. Never late.

Our maturity in this fruit of the Holy Spirit, Ruach HaKodeh, will have reached a point that we are not anxious about when God will do something, but knowing that He certainly will do it, as He said He would. (Gal 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, self control.” CJB)

Just look at Israel and the Jews. The entire land was first promised to Abraham centuries ago. Time and again the Jews were driven out, but always brought back to their Promised Land by His Mighty Hand of Providence. Again, just in the last century, after being scattered throughout all the nations, He has brought them back again. What a patient God we serve!

Even now the Lord is growing patience in your heart. If you think of a coin with its two sides, not only has He shown you how long He has waited for your obedience in situations, but on the other side of the coin, He has also been causing you to wait on others, giving them time to grow in their faith walk. He is allowing us to realize that we each need time to hear, respond and obey as He speaks. When we do, our understanding of His everlasting patience grows. We then tend to allow others the needed time to get where He knows they should be.

What our God did in Abraham’s life, David’s life, and those women who waited for the promise of a child to come forth are further examples for us to follow. We need to learn from them in our understanding of patience, as we wait upon the Lord to fulfill personal promises in our lives. The Lord’s molding of our Jewish patriarch Abraham, the father of faith, allows us to see the years he had to have patience grow, for the promised son Isaiah to come. And even though he wavered in that, resulting in the birth of Ishmael, the Lord God didn’t withdraw His Word. The Lord’s patience with him allowed Abraham’s faith to see the promise.

We all know the story of Joseph – how patience had to be worked out in his own heart - with time in prison and then during the role of being second only to Pharaoh in government. This was part of the Lord’s plan in Joseph’s life. The Lord was allowing the years to go by, while also waiting for Joseph’s brothers to come to the point of seeing him again, and repenting of their deed.

Whether Joseph actually thought he would see his brothers again or not wasn’t the main point, but I believe the Lord taught Joseph a valuable lesson in having patience through this long ordeal. When the fruit was ripe, he was allowed to eat.

In considering the ongoing evil that takes place in the hearts of men, I have often asked the Lord why He waits so long before He does something about it, before His righteous judgment comes forth. (Oh, He will act. History has proven that.) It is because of His long suffering patience, wanting to give man every opportunity to repent and turn to Him, that His timing operates on a different clock than ours.

Patience first comes from the Lord for our lives. Then it grows in us as a fruit of the Holy Spirit - in our attitude and action toward others. We are then understanding why He waits so long, and allows things in our lives to seemingly go on past our expected done date. He is unfolding His perfect plan and purposes for us, and the peoples of the nations.

He is not quick to act, but He is sure to act for His plans and purposes. When the appointed time has come, the patience we have been allowed to grow will have been all worth it. And it will not be a minute too late.

Arab League Says No to 'Jewish State' - CBN News

Arab League Says No

to 'Jewish State'

CBN News  March 10, 2014

JERUSALEM, Israel -- The Arab League said no to a Jewish state and agreed that Lebanon has a right to use any means at its disposal to defend itself against "Israeli aggression."

In a seven-page resolution, the ministers agreed that Israel was to blame for failed peace negotiations with the Palestinian Authority. They said there could not be a "comprehensive" peace deal that doesn't include the "right of return" for these so-called refugees.

The ministers also affirmed Lebanon's right to "liberate or retrieve" Sheba Farms and Kfar Shuba Hills, which sit just below Mount Hermon overlooking the Hula Valley, and the village of Ghajar, which is partly in Israel and partly in Lebanon.

"Lebanon and the Lebanese have the right to liberate or retrieve the Sheba Farms, Kfar Shuba Hills and the Lebanese part of the Ghajar village and to resist any Israeli aggression or occupation with all legitimate and available means," the ministers stated.

"Let the Shaking That You're Going Through Become the Shaking of the Breakthrough" - by Eileen Fisher

Eileen Fisher:

Eileen Fisher
What Is YOUR Purpose?

The following corporate prophetic word was given by Eileen Fisher on January 21, 2014 during her weekly Prophetic School of the Holy Spirit meeting in Colorado Springs, Colorado:

"Understand that you truly were created for My pleasure. And those days when you say, 'Lord, nothing's going right.' Smile inside and know this truth: You were created for My pleasure. In spite of anything, find comfort in knowing your purpose."

The Spirit within me is saying, because sometimes, when things are going a different direction, we have to know that is our identity;that is our purpose. Our purpose isn't what we're called to do; our purpose is relationship – to fellowship with the Living God.

We were created to fellowship with Him; and that is to be so intimate, that wherever we are, we feel His breath, His hand, His pleasure. We feel the brush of angels' wings. We're so aware of Him that that's why we go some places, and that's why we don't go other places, because we're aware that He would not be comfortable there, and it would not bring Him pleasure.

Redeemed by Jennifer PageAnd I hear the Lord say, "Many, many times, you face choices. In fact, every day you face hundreds of choices – choice, after choice, after choice. And with each choice, just as with each step, it could draw you closer to Me, or away from Me.

For the enemy would come and sow seeds of doubt, unbelief. He would put work, after work, after work – of failure, of discouragement, of disappointment – to where you begin to say, 'Where are You?'"

He said, "I would say back to you, 'Where are you?' Is that not what I said to Adam and Eve? Where are you?

"Where are you with Me this night? Are you in the fold of My arms? Are you where My hand can rest upon your head, and give you right thinking and right understanding? Are you so close that I need only to whisper, and you feel My breath, and know exactly what I am sending you to do, and the message I will send you to carry?

"Let the distance cause you to come closer and closer and closer. Learn to run into My arms. Learn to acknowledge My presence in every hour of the day, until you become so aware that you too cannot escape My presence, just like David. Because if you too were locked in the pits of Hell, I would come and get you, for you are My property.

Did You Know You Were Created By a Creator Who Wanted You?

LIFE by Jennifer Page"You were created by a Creator who wanted you. Perhaps the circumstances of your birth were not the highest on this earth, but I promise you, on My side there was dancing. There was rejoicing for another one – another one of us – We could love.

Part of our family had come to the earth, made in the image of God, for fellowship, for identity.

"Know that you were created for a purpose. And after you know that purpose, then begin to pray.

Seek My face for strategy, for what you were placed on the earth for.

And know that you too must come to the point in your life that man cannot persuade you to take a left, or a right, to stop, or to run.
"But you too will have a song in your heart, and that song will be the same song that I sang: 'I must be about My Father's business. I only do what the Father shows Me.' But you must be very close, to see when I direct you, when I whisper, when I nudge, when I restrain you, and I say, 'Wait. Rest.'

"Be not concerned about pride, of always being right. But be more concerned about becoming righteous in My sight, because you serve and you dwell in the presence of an everlasting, righteous Lord your God. Seek righteousness.

Seek first the Kingdom of God and My righteousness, and everything will be added unto you," says the Lord your God.

Let My Presence and Strength Roll Out of You In Times of Trouble

The following corporate prophetic word was given by Eileen Fisher on January 28, 2014 during her weekly Prophetic School of the Holy Spirit meeting in Colorado Springs, Colorado:

The Lord said, "Be aware, for the enemy would come with distraction, after distraction, after distraction, and only to deposit subtraction – subtraction from who I am. From who you are. Subtraction of strength, faith, and to rob you, and deposit within you despondency and numbness. Put you in a sense of shock, and an aftershock, and for longing, not knowing which way to go – to the left or to the right.

Glory Filled the Temple by Robert Bartow"But I am not a God who died for His people and then abandoned them. I am with you forever. I've said, 'Forever!'
"In times of trouble, call in My presence, for where you are My presence is.

Do you not understand 'The Hope of Glory' that is within you? Do not look exterior. Do not look outward. Don't look around. Look in. Let My presence, let My strength, roll out of you.

"Be carriers of praise and thanksgiving. Be carriers of 'Amen,' 'So be it,' 'It is written.' Be carriers of 'Command,' that command My Word to be alive and active.
Take Up Your Position; Wake Up!
I Slept, But My Heart Was Awake by Donna Smallenberg"Take up your position, for the King of Glory longs to come in and walk among you.

But will you recognize Him? How will you recognize Him? What if you're asleep in your spirit? Wake up! Wake up!

"Let the shaking that you're going through become the shaking of the breakthrough.

Be not shook for any reason, but be shook awake: to make a stand. And then the enemy will tremble and flee. But first, you must shake.

"Shake off the negative words. Let them drop off of you. Do not let the enemy live in the darkness of your words. Do not cover him with words of unbelief, for he hides and brings torment with fear, and aggravation, and regret, and remorse.

"Expose him by the light of My Word and My presence. You are My mouthpieces. But how can you speak what I tell you to speak unless you have come with praise and thanksgiving, and receive that which I would give to you?

"Ponder this well, for this is the key and the secret to the Kingdom. Let My Holy Spirit quicken this to you. Let this be a foundation, a cornerstone, for you are the temple. My presence dwells in your temples.
"Claim My ever-filling. Claim My ever-presence. Claim and remember the days of old, of My faithfulness.
"Allow time for Me to come and rebuild what the enemy has come to destroy. Know that I am a gatherer, and it takes time to gather. Know that I am a multiplier, but it takes time to multiply. But will you be willing?

Arise and Shine; You Are the Light

Salt and Light by Jennifer Page"Uncover the enemy with praise and thanksgiving, for he comes under the umbrella of murmuring against Me. For is he not called the 'accuser of the brethren?' He accuses, and accuses, and accuses until you stand with your heads down, as one who's been accused and condemned. That is not for My people.

"My people are resurrected. My people are strong. My people are called to arise, and to shine. My people are not called to hide in the darkness, but My people are called 'the light.'

"You are living epistles. If only My people would become living epistles. Will you be My people – alive in My Word and My Word alive in you? Do not take this lightly. For I have called a few here this night. I have given them the keys to a Kingdom. Apply this. I await your reply.
His Joy by Jennifer Page
"I've called a people to be joyful, so that they will be strong and do great exploits in My name. Shake off the darkness. Shake off the negative agreement. Tell the enemy, 'No, get behind me.' Do not hide behind him with murmuring and accusing, one to another, for My Spirit grieves in murmuring, for My Spirit is truly connected with the Father and with Me.

"We have connected you with Us. We have sealed you. You are sealed by My Spirit. Do not take that lightly. Own it. Live in it. And let My Word do what it was sent to do – set captives free," says the Lord your God.
