What Keeps Jewish People From Seeing Yeshua as the Messiah? - SAM NADLER CHARISMA NEWS

This significant period of time had a huge impact on religious world history.

What Keeps Jewish People From Seeing Yeshua as the Messiah?

Standing With Israel
Atoning sacrifice is one of the most basic tenets of biblical Judaism. Today, however, Jewish people by and large have disavowed it.
How did this happen? In my last article, I discussed how misguided reverence for the Oral Law was developed and taught by the rabbinic leadership between 516 B.C.-A.D. 70. This view of Scripture interpreted through Oral Law ultimately contributed to Jewish rejection of Yeshua as Messiah.
Now we consider the next period of Jewish history, A.D. 70–135—from the fall of Jerusalem to the "Gentilization" of the church. What happened during this time inhibits my people even today from seeing Yeshua as their atoning sacrifice.
Temple Sacrifices
The faith of the Jewish people through their history was based on the sacrificial system centered in the tabernacle and later in the temple. One could only approach God by first offering a sacrifice. With that in mind, how could Jewish people today consider sacrificial atonement irrelevant to Judaism?
With the destruction of the temple in A.D. 70, the Jewish religious leaders faced an enormous problem: how were they to maintain a people of faith without the prescribed sacrifices at the altar and the temple? Incredibly, the way the religious leaders reinterpreted the meaning of sacrifices 2,000 years ago affects Jewish thought and theology to this day.
Symbolic Sacrifices
Even before the temple was destroyed, sacrifices were seen as symbolic. Philo (20 B.C.–A.D. 40), a Jewish philosopher from Alexandria, Egypt, taught that Temple offerings were mainly symbolic in nature, and wrote that "the offering of domesticated animals [sheep, goats, bullocks] and gentle birds symbolized the submissive offerer." Since these non-aggressive creatures were viewed as the 'persecuted' in the animal world, the rabbis went on to interpret that the offering spoke of the idea that "the one pursued is accepted by God..." (Leviticus Rabbah 27:5).
Secondary Sacrifices
Prayer
Since repentance or contrition has always been necessary along with a sacrifice (Lev. 23:27), the removal of the sacrifice merely enhanced repentance as the essential element for atonement. "Prayer," therefore, was considered even "more efficacious than sacrifices" (Talmud Ber. 32b).  The rabbis and writers of the Talmud made much of certain Scriptures such as Psalm 51:17-"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit."
Religious Rites
Along with prayer, other religious practices such as fasting came to be seen as equivalent substitutes for sacrifices. Even studying the verses of Scripture on sacrifice was regarded by the rabbis as one having offered the sacrifice: "whoever occupies himself with the study of Torah needs neither burnt offering, nor meal offering, nor sin offering nor guilt offering" (Talmud Men. 110a). The reciting of the Shema ("Hear O Israel..." Deut. 6:4) and the wearing of phylacteries were seen "as if he had built an altar and offered a sacrifice upon it" (Tal. Ber. 15a).
Archaic Sacrifice
Maimonides (famous 12th century rabbi, Moses ben Maimon) went so far as to declare that sacrifice was archaic religion from which God had weaned Israel. Thus modern Jewish writers such as Trude Weiss-Rosmarin, look upon faith in Yeshua and the doctrine of vicarious atonement as unreasonable: "The idea of 'vicarious atonement,' that is to say, the payment of the penalty not by the sinner but by a substitute, is irreconcilable with Jewish ethics" (Judaism & Christianity: The Differences, p. 52). What these scholars and rabbis have overlooked is that in the Scriptures, the Lord gave these truths regarding repentance and contrition in light of the need for blood sacrifice, and never apart from the offerings. God still considers sacrificial, substitutionary atonement to be of utmost importance, even when it isn't convenient.
Scriptural Sacrifice
Why is God such a stickler about sacrifices? Because the Word of God and God's priorities cannot be overlooked. God has told us how He wants to be approached. It is not up to man to determine these things. For instance, if someone broke your $400 window, but offered you only $25 to replace it, that would be sheer arrogance on their part.
Rather than offering you what they thought the window was worth, it would be up to you to determine its value. The doctrine of atonement (see Isaiah 53) has been lost to my people. Thus in the eyes of many Jewish people, they see believers as making too much of sin, and Yeshua's death seems to be an unnecessary sacrifice. Yet even a perusal of Scripture informs us that no one approaches God without a sacrifice: "For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement" (Lev. 17:11).
As it is Written
Surprisingly, even Yeshua's disciples had a hard time understanding the need for Messiah's atoning death and the promise of His resurrection, so He taught them: "These are My Words ... that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets, and in the Psalms must be fulfilled. Then He opened their minds, that they might understand the Scriptures. He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day ..." (Luke 24:44-46). As Yeshua taught His disciples then, the Jewish people need to be taught today: it is Scripture's teaching that matters, not the traditions of men. Please pray that my people will come to understand not only the condemnation for sin, but their need for atonement, and that God allowed the temple to be destroyed because the ultimate and final atoning sacrifice has been made in Messiah's death.
In the last article of this series next week, we'll discuss one final era of Jewish history, the persecution of the Jewish people (A.D. 135 to the present day), and its continuing implications for Jewish unbelief in Yeshua today.

How God Esteems Persecuted Believers - BECKY DVORAK CHARISMA MAGAZINE

Spirit-Led Woman

How God Esteems Persecuted Believers

We read the biblical accounts of the saints from long ago and we hear the horrifying news about our Christian brethren being tortured today. But do we truly understand what it means to be a member of the persecuted church? Most of us do not, but Jesus does.
He can identify with the battle against the spirit of fear while being tortured for His faith. And He knows what it will take to be faithful until the end. He holds His persecuted bride in high esteem; He loves her and has a message of encouragement for her.
In Revelation 2: 8-9 we read the following message, "To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: 'The First and the Last, who was dead and came to life, says these things: I know your works and tribulation and poverty (but you are rich). And I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Look, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tried, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.'"
He also says in Matthew 5:10-12: "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when men revile you, and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be very glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in this manner they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
The ability to remain faithful in the face of persecution starts with a pure heart, one that is sold out for Jesus and makes the decision that no matter what I will not recant my faith. A believer with such deep devotion to Christ does not intermingle with the backslidden, worldly, unrepentant, spiritually dead or lukewarm church of today. But gives high honor to the redemptive blood of Jesus Christ, and surrenders his or her will to the Father's will.
And through their deep devotion to God devoted believers can say, "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; and always carrying around in the body the death of the Lord Jesus, that also the life of Jesus might be expressed in our bodies. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus' sake, that also the life of Jesus might be manifested in our mortal flesh" (2 Cor. 4: 8-11).
"So I take pleasure in weaknesses, in reproaches, in hardships, in persecutions, and in distresses for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong" (2 Cor. 12:10).
In the end, the Shepherd remains faithful to them as they pass through the revelation of Psalm 23:4, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."
Dear Persecuted Church,
What an honor it is to intercede for you. I pray that you will find the strength to remain faithful till the end. I hope that the effects of my prayers will find their way to you and that you would be encouraged while under extreme circumstances to fight the good fight of faith, to finish your race, to keep your faith and to forgive those who persecute you.
Love in Jesus,
A Fellow Believer

Pat Buchanan Calls President Obama's 'Mindset' Into Question - TROY ANDERSON CHARISMA NEWS

Pat Buchanan Calls President Obama's 'Mindset' Into Question

Conservative commentator Pat Buchanan called into question the "mindset" of President Obama following his remarks chiding anti-refugee politicians as being "scared of widows and 3-year-old orphans."
In an interview on Newsmax TV, Buchanan criticized the president for his remarks lashing out at Republicans who called for barring Syrian refugees in the United States.
"He didn't really show what he should have shown, which was American leadership in the time of a real crisis for our ally in France," Buchanan told The Steve Malzberg Show."He really seems to be letting Republican criticism get to him.
"The president has not handled this at all well, there's no question about it. This was a massacre, a perpetrated massacre, the largest hit on France militarily, lost more casualties than any single incident since World War II. He's focusing on the Republican Party—and he's calling it a setback in the war on terror. You have to ask yourself about the mindset of the president right now."
Buchanan's remarks followed comments Obama made in the Philippines on Wednesday at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit. At the summit, Obama make veiled references to GOP candidates who have called for closing the nation's borders to refugees.
"These are the same folks oftentimes that say they're so tough that just talking to (Russian President Vladimir) Putin or staring down ISIL (ISIS) or using some additional rhetoric will solve the problem—and they're scared of widows and 3-year-old orphans," Obama said.
Meanwhile, a growing number of mostly Republican governors have called for shutting down their states to Syrian refugees.
Obama said intelligence agencies vet the refugees coming to the U.S. for up to two years prior to their entrance into the U.S.
"We are not well-served when, in response to a terrorist attack, we descend into fear and panic," Obama said. "We don't make good decisions if they're based on hysteria or an exaggeration of risks."

Jerusalem Inspiration

By the rivers of Babylon, the Psalmist reveals the cruelty of the Nation's captors, as they taunt the newly exiled Jerusalemites, asking them to sing songs of Zion. The Hebrew word for captors, שׁוֹבֵינוּ, sho-vay-nu shares the same root as the Hebrew word לשוב, la-shuv, to return.  We take comfort, after 2,000 years of exile, that with the malady, God created the antidote; we suffered at the hands of our captors, but we did, and continue to, return to our holy Jerusalem.  Celebrate the miracle that is Israel with our beautiful 2016 Calendar, complete with Biblical verse and breathtaking Israel photos.

Attacks in Israel Leave 5 Dead, Including US Teen - CBNNews.com

Associated Press photoAttacks in Israel Leave 5 Dead, Including US Teen

JERUSALEM, Israel – A drive-by shooting south of Jerusalem killed three people, including an American teen and an Arab bystander, and injured at least six others.
The shooter opened fire from his car at a minivan, then drove a little further before ramming his vehicle into another car, mortally wounding an 18-year-old American tourist and critically injuring a 50-year-old man who was evacuated unconscious to Jerusalem's Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.
Israeli security forces shot and captured him as he attempted to open fire at other cars.
A second attack injured three people, one seriously, and sent several others into shock.
Two hours earlier, a stabbing attack outside a synagogue in southern Tel Aviv killed two Israelis in their early 30s. A third victim is reported in stable condition at a local hospital.
The attack took place as worshippers were gathered for afternoon prayers.
The first victim managed to get inside the synagogue where he collapsed in a pool of blood. The killer tried to push his way inside, but worshippers closed the door before he could enter. People on the street subdued the terrorist until police arrived.
According to Israeli media, the attacker is a 36-year-old resident of the Arab village of Dura near Hebron. He had a work permit and was employed at a restaurant right next to where the terror attack took place.
The stabbing took place one year to the day after two Arab terroristsmurdered four Israelis in a synagogue in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Har Nof. The attackers shot and stabbed the four men to death as they gathered for morning prayers.
Hamas praised Thursday's attacks as it did the synagogue incident a year ago, calling the terrorists heroes.

Did the Great Falling Away Just Suck Up Another Christian Institution? - JENNIFER LECLAIRE CHARISMA NEWS

Did the Great Falling Away Just Suck Up Another Christian Institution?

Watchman on the Wall, by Jennifer LeClaire
Jennifer LeClaire is now sharing her reflections and revelations through Walking in the Spirit. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Is this another sign of the Great Falling Away? A "Christian" university in Arizona is acknowledging gay marriage. Grand Canyon University is now extending benefits to same-sex marriage partners.
The university issued the following statement outlining the reasons behind that decision, with plenty of justification for its anti-biblical stance. I don't need to comment much on this one. You can clearly see the deception in the statement:
"Since its inception in 1949, Grand Canyon University has been founded upon strong Christian principles and a commitment to the full inspiration of Scripture as the infallible, true and authoritative Word of God," the statement reads.
Unfortunately, giving a nod to same-sex marriage by extending these benefits cracks the foundation. Although GCU maintains that marriage is a "sacred union between a man and a woman, which will continue to be espoused throughout the university's curriculum and classrooms," they have nonetheless to give a nod to gay marriage by extending benefits so as to respect and honor its neighbors and the law.
"The university's decision to extend benefits has been made freely and without compulsion by the state," the statement reads. "The University has voluntarily chosen to extend benefits as a way of demonstrating grace and compassion toward individuals and families that are affected by our decision. This decision should be interpreted as an act of good faith toward employees and their families whom the University does not view as pawns in the current cultural conflict. Rather, they are human beings who are loved by their Creator and worthy of the same value and dignity that we extend to others regardless of their personal values and convictions."

Indeed, God loves everyone but the "pawns" statement confused me. In chess, a pawn has the least value and can never be promoted to king. A pawn is also someone used to forward the purposes of another.
Is this university concerned that people will think it has gay employees as pawns? Where is the pressure coming from? Is it a heartfelt conviction of the Holy Spirit? If so, why is this one of only a few Christian colleges to make this move? Are the others missing the Holy Ghost? Can a Christian college essentially bless same-sex marriage and still be a Christian college? Is this what Jesus would do?
"Regardless of criticism, GCU will remain steadfast in its commitment to follow the example of Jesus who consistently showed kindness and compassion to all, regardless of worldview or lifestyle, while speaking the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). At some points Christ infuriated religious leaders and at other points He drew the wrath of secular authorities, yet He continued to minister to all without fail," the statement reads. "If providing benefits to all who are legally married enables the University to continue ministering to its employees and their families within an increasingly complex cultural context, then we will gladly provide benefits. We hope that in doing so we will be permitted to withdraw from fruitless culture wars that tend to yield more heat than light and more hostility than genuine cultural engagement."
Wait, what? Fruitless culture wars? Is GCU really saying that Christians should not engage in the spiritual war that's trying to make darkness the norm in our society? Do the leaders of this institution really believe that disengaging from a culture war in which anti-Christ agendas are working overtime to silence the gospel is wisdom?
The bottom line is: Nobody is forcing the university's hand, though it did get a nasty letter from the American Civil Liberties Union last year with accusations of discrimination. But if all it takes is a few idle threats to move us off God's Word, we're in trouble. Let's begin to pray for our Christian institutions, which are clearly the target of a strong delusion that is trying to suck them into the Great Falling Away Paul prophesied in 2 Thessalonians 2:3. Check out my article: "7 Ways to Escape the Great Falling Away."

Where Are All the Christian Refugees From Syria?

Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Christians and other religious minorities in Syria have been targeted for death, sexual slavery, displacement, cultural eradication and forced conversion by ISIS.
Many of these persecuted Christians hope to escape to the United States. They have been largely excluded, with the State Department's Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration admitting to officials at The Barnabas Fund, a Christian relief agency, "There is no way that Christians will be supported because of their religious affiliation."
According to data from the State Department's Refugee Processing Center for Fiscal Year 2015, resettled Syrian refugees were 97 percent Muslim. The Hudson Institute's Nina Shea, in a November 2 article in National Review, showed that in the past five years 53 out of 2,003 Syrian refugees accepted by the United States have been Christians (about 2.5 percent of the total). But about 10 percent of Syrians are Christians.
IRD Religious Liberty Director Faith McDonnell commented:
"The U.S. government's response has been woefully inadequate—neither helping these minorities defend themselves and stay, nor providing them asylum to leave.
"Christians cannot go to U.N.-run refugee camps because there they face the same persecution and terror from which they fled. If they are not in the refugee camps, they are not included in the application process for asylum. The State Department knows this, but continues to allow the office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees to select refugees for asylum with no regard to the endangered religious minorities.
"The blame is not just with the U.N. and the administration. U.S. organizations who resettle refuges are also to blame. This includes Christian groups that resist any focus on Christian victims of ISIS, and oppose actions by Congress to welcome not just economic migrants but also Christians and other religious minorities victimized by ISIS.
"Other religious minorities—such as Jews, Yazidis, Mandaeans, Shia Shabaks and Turkmen—are also being targeted, and largely left out of refugee resettlement. Shea notes that only one Yazidi was resettled in the U.S. in the past five years of Syria's civil war, even though thousands of Yazidi girls are taken as sex slaves by ISIS."
McDonnell's full article can be found on The Stream.
