Mighty Oaks of Righteousness - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Mighty Oaks of Righteousness

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season
and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.” (Psalm 1:3, NASU)

One of the awesome sights in God’s creation, in the colorful northern hemisphere fall season, is the mighty oak tree, with its beautiful golden brown, orange and deep red foliage. Especially the one that is standing tall, with over 50 years of branches, leaves, acorns, and a root system below, typically larger than the tree you actually see above ground.

Standing tall, providing much for many, the mighty oak tree is one that will inspire joy for the human spirit. A grateful soul will acknowledge the Lord’s goodness shone about us.

I found this interesting bit of documentation on these displays of the Lord’s glory, that of oak trees.

Oak trees can live 200 or more years. The largest oak tree on record was in Maryland's eastern shore in the U.S.A. It is believed to be more than 400 years old, and it measures 32 feet in circumference. It is 105 feet tall with a crown spread of 158 feet till high winds blew it over a few years ago.

There is one in Lewisburg, Mandeville, Louisiana reputed to be 37 feet and 2 inches in circumference. It is estimated that it is more than 1,000 years old!

Then we have the major oak at Sherwood Forest, Nottingham in the UK. It is the actual tree Robin Hood is said to have hidden in while escaping the Sheriff of Nottingham if you have heard the legend. It is estimated to be 10000 year old. (
Yahoo! Answers)

If I was to be a tree, I would want to be an oak. Being it is a very hard wood species, it is great for making a home beautiful, used for living room flooring and wall/ceiling trim. During the cold winter season, the blaze of oak logs in a roaring fireplace delights one’s sight and heart.

The oak, having many varieties, will stand strong against tough winds that may come against it, as it towers over the landscape, giving life to birds nesting its branches, and cool shade to livestock grazing beneath.

Because it lives a long time, it usually takes at least 20 years to grow to maturity. It is not an overnight sensation. Nor is it here one year and gone another. The mighty oak is one you can count on to be there, when you need it to be there.

In Isaiah 61, the Lord speaks of those who will be called oaks of righteousness, because of the character they possess within, and the strength given to them by the Lord God of Israel. They will be the ones planted by the Lord Himself. They will be the one glorify His Great Name.

These oaks of righteousness will rebuild the ancient ruins, raise up the devastations all about, and repair ruined cities. Much of what has been desolated after generations of lies and unrighteousness will be part of their restorative mission. You can believe that those of the oak mindset will be the ones many will look to in and during times of trouble that are coming upon the earth, especially in these end of days.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, to grant those who mourn in Zion, giving them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting.

So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.

Then they will rebuild the ancient ruins, they will raise up the former devastations; and they will repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations. Strangers will stand and pasture your flocks, and foreigners will be your farmers and your vinedressers. But you will be called the priests of the Lord; you will be spoken of as ministers of our God. You will eat the wealth of nations, and in their riches you will boast.

Instead of your shame you will have a double portion, and instead of humiliation they will shout for joy over their portion. Therefore they will possess a double portion in their land, everlasting joy will be theirs.

For I, the Lord, love justice, I hate robbery in the burnt offering; and I will faithfully give them their recompense and make an everlasting covenant with them.

Then their offspring will be known among the nations, and their descendants in the midst of the peoples. All who see them will recognize them because they are the offspring whom the Lord has blessed.

I will rejoice greatly in the Lord, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations. (Isaiah 61, NASU)

Those who know the Lord, the Mighty One, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the great God of Israel, have been raised up to be His oaks of righteousness. We are ready, awaiting His command to go. For many of us, we have endured the decades of training, the painful years of character building, the rejection and ridicule that have brought others down.

We are now fully equipped with His spiritual gifts and weapons of war, knowing how to use them at the proper time, and with full skill and ability.

We have already withstood the gates of hell many times, the gale winds of deception blowing hard in the nations, and the rampant evil that seeks to overtake the generation following behind us.

We are now available to show them the way, side by side, together battling the demons of destruction and the hordes of evil.

The mighty oaks of righteousness, empowered with the awesome fire of the Holy Spirit, have been prepared. We can say, “Bring it on Lord. We are standing with You and will fight to the death, upholding the eternal Word you have placed in our hearts.”

We are among those who have believed the beginning words of His eternal written Word, and have read the end of the book.

We are ready!

Now think on this.

How 1 Man's Faith Prevailed During Global Crisis

MATT LOCKETT/BOUND4LIFE  charisma news

"I want to know that the Holy Spirit is stronger than the devil in the Nazi system. This is the battle of the ages, and victory here means victory for millions of people."—Rees Howells
This quote, taken from the journals of Rees Howells during World War II, captures an uncommon faith, prayer life and vision that the church desperately needs to rediscover today. God used Mr. Howells and the young people with him at the Bible College of Wales in a mighty way to shape international events and the destiny of nations through their prayers.
The world was in crisis, and this company of faith-filled believers became intercessors fully committed to be part of the solution.
Lessons on Faith and Abiding
Every great leader in their life of faith has learned one universal lesson: There are no short cuts. These kinds of leaders are not made in a day but on a daily basis. Rees Howells was no exception to the rule, and he was led by the Holy Spirit to build a life of faith learned through experience. Big testimonies come in growing your faith through the small things of life, as you demonstrate your willingness to listen to the Holy Spirit and follow wherever He leads.
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Heb. 11:1)
God loves the process of revealing Himself in our daily lives, but the fires of adversity must test us. Rees Howells would say, "You may preach anything and everything without proving anything, which is nothing but spectacular theory! Faith must become substance before it becomes evidence."
It is in the testing of our faith when we learn that God really is who is says He is. We need experiential knowledge of God because theories are impossible to lean on in dark days.
The Holy Spirit led Rees Howells into a life of faith built line upon line, experience upon experience. We must learn to recognize the leading of the Holy Spirit each day and respond by abiding in Him and His promises. Only an abiding faith can overcome the challenges to our obedience.
"If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it shall be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples" (John 15:7-8).
Proving God in small things—then larger things—led to an ever-increasing faith to stand in the face of insurmountable odds. One area of faith that was put to the test throughout Howells' life was in the area of praying for the supernatural provision of finances.
"Unless you can prove God to answer in an emergency and in a test case, it is nothing but talk in a very big way. The 'old man' can sound very convincing but he does not see his folly. You can never exercise real faith for £100 [British pounds] unless you've had £50, nor for £50 unless you've proved God for £20, nor for £10 unless you've proved God for £5.
"You only give mental assent and imagine these things, unless you have had an experience with God in the impossible. Man's extremity is God's opportunity."
This simple growth process of faith led Howells to greater and greater pursuits as he followed the Lord's leading into a world that was about to erupt in two world wars.
Walking in Obedience
When I read about the life of this man, I see simple but radical obedience. As the Holy Spirit would make His direction known to Rees, there would be an honest wrestling with the weakness of his flesh in order to enter into a life truly led by the Spirit.
"Watch and pray that you enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak" (Matt. 26:41)
Whether we admit it or not, we are way too concerned about man's opinion, our personal prosperity and an easier way of life free from danger. These fears are jagged obstacles in the path of obedience. Fear-based decisions actually increase the danger level of our lives, though they easily masquerade as so-called wisdom.
The safest place to be is in the center of God's will. Again, this is all just spectacular theory until it's put to the test.
In 1915, Rees and his wife Elizabeth had answered the Lord's call to missions just as World War I had begun. Germany had declared the waters around Britain to be a zone of war, and every ocean vessel was considered an enemy target. Two months before the Howells were set to embark for Africa, a German U-boat torpedoed and sunk the passenger ship Lusitania.
Can you imagine the widespread panic having to travel by ship with the unseen threat of German submarines lurking beneath the surrounding waves? Read the account given of their ship's passage:
"As they departed from England, many other passengers were fearful that their ship would be sunk like Lusitania, but Rees assured all who needed it that God would protect them. To believe that God would guard their ship from German submarines, and to publicly declare it to those who were afraid, was a leap of faith that few have taken. ...
"Another test came on the journey when the captain lost his nerve and feared for their safety. But they continued to assure the captain of a safe passage through U-boat infested waters because God was taking them to Africa to serve him."

How important it is to be obedient to the Lord and remain in the center of His will. It not only impacts your own life—it likely impacts the destiny of countless lives around you.
Faith to Move Mountains
In 1924, Rees Howells founded the Bible College of Wales with the aim of training and sending laborers into the harvest field who had learned not only theology but also a practical life of faith. Students were required to "pray through" for victory in their daily needs and burdens whether that was for a needed toothbrush or for tuition.
Inspired by George Mueller, Rees set the standard for his community as he contended in prayer to acquire the massive properties needed for the school to be established. Leonard Ravenhill gave insight into Rees' hidden life of faith, obedience and prayer in this area:
"After I spoke at a session in the Bible School of Wales, Mrs. Rees Howells called me for a private talk. We stood on the veranda of her home overlooking beautiful Swansea Bay I can see her finger upheld as she said, 'Many talk of my husband's buying this place with a shilling [14 cents] in his pocket. What they forget is that he prayed 12 hours a day for 11 months to know the mind of God.' Brethren, that's discipline!"
The two-dimensional promises written on the pages of your Bible have to take on three-dimensional reality in your broken life in spite of your failures and weaknesses. We have to learn that God is love; God is a father; God is a healer; God is a provider.
Each of these revelations demands a personal testimony of their proven truth. Without firsthand knowledge of these realities faith will flounder and lack the power needed for an end-time mission. Heed the apostle Paul's warning and resist becoming a person in the last days who is content in "having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power" (2 Tim. 3:5).
Not long after the school was established, God called Rees Howells into the ultimate walk of faith and obedience—the preaching of the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). He became a man with a world vision. No sooner had he engaged his faith to see the task completed in his generation, than evil dictators and wicked governmental systems arose to stop the gospel's advancement. World War II had begun.
What was created to be a training and sending center transformed into a company of faith-filled intercessors on their faces day after day, year after year facing the crisis of war. Through it all their vision remained—the "Every Creature Vision"— as they contended for God's purposes in the earth and for global obstacles to be removed for the gospel to advance.
However, their stories and testimonies of how they affected the world through their prayers are difficult to grasp unless you first understand their effective lives of faith, obedience and abiding.
Consider again the opening quote and hear the determined cry of a man whose faith and prayers expanded to include nations, world leaders, governmental systems and unreached people groups. Let the words impact your heart and create the same hunger for that kind of faith. Let's follow the example of this humble man of God whose life has inspired thousands of intercessors around the globe.
The Howells Project
Coming soon in the spring of 2016, Justice House of Prayer D.C. invites believers to dig deep into the principles of faith and prayer that will shape the world to come. For four weeks we will look to the life of Rees Howells to create this immersive experience, which will take place in Washington, D.C., and also at Howells' historic well—the Bible College of Wales.
Dark clouds are forming on the horizon, yet the charge of the kingdom remains the same: "Go!" God wants to raise up people who are fully committed to His work in spite of the challenges to come.
The Howells Project is designed to develop a life of faith that can impact world events at the highest levels. Will you answer this call?

Israel Turning East in the Face of European Boycotts | Yossi Aloni ISRAEL TODAY

Israel Turning East in the Face of European Boycotts

Friday, November 27, 2015 |  Yossi Aloni   ISRAEL TODAY
The first Israeli food festival, in Taiwan may be the Israeli answer to Europe's branding of Israeli products. 25 Israeli companies will present and sell some 200 different kinds of foods and beverages to the public in the five stores of the prestigious City Super.
The food festival, that was initiated by the Ministry of Economy"s office in Taiwan and Israel's Export Institute, is part of a concerted effort to break through to new markets in East Asia. In addition, Ministry of Economy's Director General, Amit Lang, has inaugurated a Ministry office in Osaka, Japan. The auto industry of the East is also interested in new Israeli technologies and innovations. Lang headed a delegation of 11 Israeli companies from the auto industry that met representatives of Honda, Suzuki, Daihatsu, Panasonic and Datsun recently. The delegation met with the giant among car manufactures – Toyota, for the first time.
In the first ever food festival with Israeli participation, one can find Israeli Olives, spices, Tahini, Halva, fresh salads and so on. Among the companies present were well known brands like Neviot mineral water, the Prigat fruit juices, Wissotzky Tea and Salt of the Earth. There were also companies with unique Israeli products like the Ta'am VaReach spice company with its authentic Middle Eastern spices, Matza bread of Aviv bakery along with Israeli wines and honey. Gourmet To Go presented Couscous, Falafel and other heat-and-eat dishes.
City Super is a well-known supermarket chain store founded in Hong Kong that operates in several Asian locations five of which are in Taiwan's capital Taipei. This Supermarket chain specializes in fresh fruits and vegetables. The chain regularly holds food festivals and is considered a major influence of new tastes and products unknown to the local people.
Israel's first ever participation in this festival allows the introduction of her products to the Asian market, for the first time ever. The trade attaché of the Ministry of Economy's office in Taiwan, Doron Hamo, says that "this is the first step in introducing Israeli products to Asia that has yet to be exposed to the variety of Israeli tastes. Despite cultural differences in taste, we see a great potential, and just as these tastes succeeded in Europe they will also appeal to the Asian pallet. Success in Taiwan, known for its diverse food culture, will create an interest among her neighboring countries, China, Korea and Japan."
According to the Food & Beverage Manager of Israel Export Institute, Caroline Nave, "in light of the obvious need to target diverse export markets, over the past years we have witnessed diverse exports to Eastern markets. Specifically, we have witnessed a growing Asian interest in the Israeli food industry. In the first half of 2015 the export of food and beverages increased by 12 percent. The Taiwanese are especially interested in healthy and oriental foods more suited to their life style. The next step will be aggressive marketing of such products to Taiwan."
And if this is not enough, food byers from the Philippines, Vietnamese owners of supermarket stores and Chinese buyers from selected companies have recently been invited to visit Israel.

Take the Test - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Take the Test

Now Think On This

Psalm 26:2-3 “Examine me, Adonai, test me, search my mind and heart. For your grace is there before my eyes, and I live my life by your truth.” (Complete Jewish Bible)

When our young family of four made the faith move to East Lansing, Michigan, way back on a hot August day in 1980, I was a bit apprehensive, and yet determined. Laurie and I had by then our two boys, Josh (14 months) and Ben (9 months). We were leaving yet another former homeland. This one was Illinois, where Laurie grew up, situated along the Illinois River in LaSalle/Peru. Not too far from the good ole’ farm soil that Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan also roamed back in their day. (Heroes in my book.)

Parents, sisters and friends didn’t comprehend the reason why we were moving, but we believed it was the Lord’s hand upon us, and we were pursing His plan. Not an easy thing to do. But if we were to grow spiritually, and even in other areas, we had to make the move. We did.

Sometimes a geographical location change will make all the difference in your life. Most often it will be a test, to see just how far your heart will go in obedience to His call. Some pass that test. Many do not. Leaving family behind is tough, especially if you love them as we did (and still do!)

When we had settled in a bit within our new town, the one with Michigan State University taking a big chunk of the northern state land, we realized it was the right decision. When the Lord gives you a test, you don’t fully understand the results until it is finished of course. Even then, it may take a few more years, or decades, to realize that that particular move you just made had to happen in order to get you from point A to point B, before point C could or would take place. Follow that?

In other words, you can’t skip the 8th grade before you get to high school. Then college comes only when proper class testing scores have been checked off.

Thanks to our new church friends at Shiloh Fellowship (now New Covenant Christian Church), and those who also came north from Victory Church in Illinois, we found our place and grew further in our walk. Again, not easy. But then, we were never promised a rose garden, right? (At least that is what Lynn Anderson sang on my parent’s 1960 baby blue Ford station wagon radio station in that fine year of 1967.)

Whether the Lord gives you the test, or, as Paul says in the following Scripture, we test ourselves, testing is a necessary part of growing up – both in the natural and in the spiritual.

“Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you — unless indeed you fail the test? But I trust that you will realize that we ourselves do not fail the test.” (2 Corinthians 13:5-6 NASU)

As I wrote recently in an edition of my A Nugget for Living Life, "Tests are good. They help you graduate to the next level, revealing to yourself and others what lies within. So allow the next test!"

In order to get to the next grade, the next level in a company job, or the placement on a church worship team, there is usually one thing you have to do...

You have to take the test.

Something to think about.

Love you,

How Lincoln Made Thanksgiving a National Holiday - STEVE STRANG CHARISMA MAGAZINE

The First Thanksgiving at Plymouth

The First Thanksgiving at Plymouth (Portrait by Jennie Augusta Brownscombe, 1914)

How Lincoln Made Thanksgiving a National Holiday

Thanksgiving is the great American holiday that people of all religions embrace as their own. It is a tradition that hearkens back, of course, to the early Puritan fathers who thanked God for helping them survive in this new world. It was not, as some politically correct people would have us believe, to thank the Indians for their help. The Puritans were thanking Almighty God—as we should be doing ourselves.
Thanksgiving only became a national holiday in 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln issued the proclamation reprinted below. Until then, various states had Thanksgiving on different days.
In 1861, Lincoln ordered government departments closed for a local day of Thanksgiving. On Sept. 28, 1863, Sarah Josepha Hale, a 74-year-old magazine editor, wrote to Lincoln urging him to have the "day of our annual Thanksgiving made a National and fixed Union Festival." She explained, "You may have observed that, for some years past, there has been an increasing interest felt in our land to have the Thanksgiving ... become permanently an American custom and institution."
George Washington was the first president to proclaim a day of Thanksgiving, issuing his request on Oct. 3, 1789, exactly 74 years before Lincoln's.
The document below sets apart the last Thursday of November "as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise." As we celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends, let's reflect on these words from one of America's greatest presidents at the height of the Civil War.

Washington, D.C.
October 3, 1863
By the President of the United States of America.
A Proclamation.
The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.
In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore.
Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.
It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.
And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.
Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the Unites States the Eighty-eighth.
By the President: Abraham Lincoln
William H. Seward,
Secretary of State

Special Note: Love For His People was able to send $300 to Shalom Today Ministries to purchase two sewing machines. We contribute monthly to this good work in Pakistan, with Moses Julius as the leader. You can also share your love and gifts through Love For His People for them.
