Alveda King - "Why 'If It Bleeds, It Leads' Fails News Readers"

Why 'If It Bleeds, It Leads' Fails News Readers

A boy after the Nepal earthquake.
A boy after the Nepal earthquake. (Reuters)
Have you ever noticed that when people go to a restaurant and they get bad service, they are all too willing to make a complaint? But when they get good, or even great service, they say nothing. The same is true with most services that people receive. Sure, there is the occasional exception to the rule. But for the most part, that's just human nature.
That seems to be the case with news and current events. The media is all too happy to report all the chaos going on in our world but is not so quick to report on the good going on in everyday life. I guess the good news doesn't bring in the ratings. As the saying goes, "If it bleeds, it leads."
With everything that is going on in the world today, good is rising in the hearts of humanity. For every bad deed, there are two, although unreported, blessings to outshine them. For example, prime time TV is flooded with shows having themes of sexual temptation and violence these days. At the same time movies like War Room and Woodlawn are receiving rave reviews.
In the music world, where many, and usually the most popular ones, songs seem to contain such graphic material, both sexual and violence, that warning labels must be printed on the cover of the albums. A less well known song, "Pray for America" is resonating across the country.
A classic favorite, "This Is My Body," re-emerged at the World Meeting of Families. Tears flowed as hearts were recommitted for life.
The coverage of Pope Francis' visit to Washington, New York, and Philadelphia and his much needed message of unity brought hope to many in times of many trials.
At times we are so bombarded by the evils of the world that we feel as though we, as a single individual, are helpless to do anything about it.
But, besides what is going on in the world at large, we all live in a smaller sphere in which each one of us has an influence on those around us. If we treat each other with agape love, we can change the world one person at a time. You may be the hope for that someone you run into today.
As I travel around the country speaking at various events, I sometimes like to get the audience's participation as we sing, "This Little Light Of Mine." It reminds us that, as Matthew 5:14 says, "You [all of us] are the light of the world ..." (addition mine). You and I are called to be a light to those around us. And together we can light up the world and darkness will have nowhere to hide.
It is said that every cloud has a silver lining. The battle for life is raging, yet we are winning.

She Started Praising Jesus On Jimmy Fallon, How The Crowd Reacted? WOW!

She Started Praising Jesus On Jimmy Fallon, How The Crowd Reacted? WOW!

I’ve been a Jimmy Fallon fan for years, but what gospel singer Yolanda Adams just did on his show will go down as the best performance in the history of The Tonight Show. This gave me chills!

A standing ovation was all that remained after Grammy award-winning gospel singer, Yolanda Adams, performed on The Tonight Show. The 53-year-old (gasp!) singer stole the show with her powerhouse performance of her hit song “Victory” and it was so good that I watched it over and over. Even Jimmy Fallon stumbled over his words after Yolanda brought the worship of a lifetime to liberal NBC!

“Oh my goodness! OH MY GOODNESS!,” Jimmy shouted when Yolanda finished. “Thank you! Oh my goodness! Look at that! Standing ovation right there and why not? Well deserved!”

Yolanda’s flawless voice, the soulful choir, the talented instrumentalists, and the touching lyrics gave me CHILLS! It was so brave of the Texas native to take a stand for Christianity on a notoriously liberal network. Check out some of the lyrics from “Victory” that left the audience cheering.

“Truly I’ve been through the storm and rain. I know everything about heartache and pain. God carried me through it all. Without His protection I’d surely fall. I've been broke without a dime to my name. But all my bills got paid because I called on Jesus name. You can’t tell me that God isn't real ’cause I’ve got the victory and that’s why I'm still here.”

Watch the breathtaking performance right now! Click below.

FLAWLESS! It’s beautiful to see Yolanda share her Christian faith so fearlessly. I can’t think of a more perfect way to glorify God with the talent He blessed her with!

Bible Stories on TV: Formula for Success?

Bible Stories on TV: Formula for Success?

What happens when you mix biblically themed entertainment and Hollywood? It appears to be a boom in ratings.
This year entertainment has seen a steady increase in the number of films and television shows that tell stories based on the Bible.
National Geographic saw it's biggest weekend audience ever when they showed "Killing Jesus," a story of the crucifixion of Jesus. The show boasted 3.7 million viewers.
On CNN, "Finding Jesus" was No. 1 on it's debut weekend with nearly 1.2 million viewers, making it the second highest-rated CNN original series premier ever.

Facebook Takes Place of Bible in Most Americans’ Lives - Jennifer LeClaire

Facebook Takes Place of Bible

in Most Americans’ Lives

Facebook
Facebook reading is more popular than the Bible in the U.S. and Canada.

What can you say about a nation that readsFacebook more than the Bible?
Facebook, which celebrated its 10th birthday on Tuesday, reports 757 million daily active users. About 19 percent of them are in the United States and Canada, which translates to about 143 million people logging on to read Facebook posts each and every day.
According to a 2006 CBS News poll, 15 percent of U.S. adults read the Bible (or some other religious text) every day. The Associated Press did some quick calculations to determine that these numbers mean about 40 million people in the U.S. and Canada read the Bible every day. And that was eight years ago. It’s more likely that the number of Bible-readers has declined rather than increased, given the downward spiral of our nation.
Now, I’m by no means anti-Facebook. I’ve got about 100,000 people on my Facebook page, and I use the medium as a tool to minister to the masses. So do many other ministries. Joyce Meyer has nearly 5 million Facebook followers, and Jesus Daily has a whopping 25 million! Clearly, God is using Facebook.
For all the wonderful ministry happening on Facebook, though—including teaching videos and apps—it is no substitute for reading the Bible. After all, Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matt. 4:4). Somehow, even if Facebook were a part of mainstream Galilean culture, I don’t think Jesus would give up fellowship with the Father to check Facebook. It's become a near addiction for some people.
But let me go back to my original question: What can you say about a nation that reads Facebook more than the Bible? We’ve got our priorities out of line. Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matt. 6:33). But how many seek first the kingdom of Facebook on their smartphone each morning rather than seeking God? Selah.
Here’s my point: Facebook can be a wonderful ministry tool, but for most people in America it’s merely a distraction. (I can’t tell you how many Christians send me multiple invitations to play Candy Crush or other time-stealing games, for example.) Of course, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is not to blame. If it wasn’t social media, people would find—and have historically found—something else to entertain them, whether it’s television, movies, radio or a seeker-friendly church that tickles their ears with feel-good messages that don’t produce change.
The bottom line: America needs to turn back to the God of the Bible, not the god of social media. The Facebook statistics, and the AP’s spin on them, is just more proof positive that America is rapidly moving in the wrong direction. We need to put God and His Word back in the center of our lives, even if that means missing out on the encouragement that ministries are offering on the platform. So, yes, let’s use Facebook as an evangelism tool. By all means. Let’s use social media to network with those of like-minded faith and equip believers for the work of the ministry. But let’s not allow it to become a substitute for personal fellowship with God and His Word. Amen?

Changing Perspective

Dave Yarnes & Lance Wallnau

Aired: Monday, November 25, 2013

The foundation of the 7-mountain message is seeing the church outside of its traditional boundaries. We need to broaden our focus on the kingdom.

The Lord is letting those in business, education, government and beyond, know that He has you there for His Kingdom purposes. It isn't a "second-class" job. We are to take the mountain we are in, for His Kingdom purposes and to reach the nations.

Ahava Love Letter (#61) - "Get Back On The Boat" - Steve Martin

“Get Back On The Boat”

“Then, without warning, a furious storm arose on the lake,
so that waves were sweeping over the boat. But Yeshua
was sleeping. So they came and roused him, saying, “Sir! Help!
We’re about to die!”

He said to them, “Why are you afraid?
So little trust you have!” Then He got up and rebuked the winds
and the waves, and there was a dead calm.”

(Matt 8:24-26 CJB Complete Jewish Bible)

Dear family of friends,

There has been a lot of rain in our state of North Carolina this current summer season. The local weatherman reported that the 12” above normal level has been the most in the 75 years of their record keeping. Cutting my grass between the falling bullets just hasn’t been working. I can attest to that fact.

As I drove in the pouring rain to my former boss’ house during the latest downpour, to receive his wise counsel about book publishing, I was speaking to another on the cell phone. Flooding was occurring in her home. She conveyed that she felt she had been under spiritual attack lately, and the excess water was the latest incident indicating that.

My response, after listening for about 15 minutes, wasn’t just a quip to “come up with a quick solution,” as they say men do (so we can get on to being the answer to the next problem.)

I said, "Seems like you are in a lifeboat, connected by only a lifeline to the big boat. So get back on the boat.”

It wasn’t meant at all to be a pun, as the rain outside my speeding car might suggest, or as her house foundation continued to seep water through it. I believe I was moved by Holy Spirit, Ruach HaKodesh (Hebrew). She really seemed to be hanging on, connected in her little raft on the mighty ocean, by a single lifeline. She needed to get into the boat, get on the ship, where the rest of the people were safely being cared for. I am speaking about the local body of believers.

Some of you may say, “I am connected,” as her response back to me was.

What? You no longer belong anywhere as a member, due to some incident? But now you do watch your favorite TV teacher/preacher on TV? Or you have a long distance phone conversation with an older saint in your former congregation, and you call that “being connected?” As one would say, “How is that working out for you?”

Explain that logic to me from the Scriptures, which basically commands that we are to be “joined and fitted together” in His Body.

Sometimes being direct, in your face, sharing tough love as James Dobson wrote decades ago, needs to be just that – a realistic look at where you are at now, and where He actually wants you to be, in experiencing His purposeful life.

We all have excuses why we can or cannot do something. If your spiritual, and possibly natural life depended on it, will you use that excuse to just stay in your little raft? Does that hold water with Him?

If you are as one floating in a raft, hanging onto to the Father Ship by a lifeline, I highly suggest you really ask the Father where you are supposed to be connected, and start pulling on the line in that direction.

The TV man or woman, or the cell phone person, as good and needed as they may be, won’t quite make it in the days ahead for you, when the real spiritual floods come. That hand extended through the airwaves can’t be the one you will need - right at hand.

It is best to be connected, within a ship, with those the Lord intends for you to be connected with. He said so. It can happen. It should happen. When will you let it happen?

Ahava Love Letter (#49) - "Fill My Heart"

"Fill My Heart"

"So when He came ashore,

He saw a huge crowd;

and, filled with compassion for them,

He healed those of them who were sick.”

(Matthew 14:14)

Complete Jewish Bible

Dear family of friends,

The red light on the clock radio shone a bright 3:00. As in “a.m.” As in “early in the morning.”

As He has been doing these last four weeks, since that week of Passover in March, which was the same week as Resurrection Sunday, Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit) woke me up. By now I was looking forward to it. Time with Him again  - in the quiet morning hours. No noise. No TV. No distractions from hearing and receiving instructions from Him. From His heart to mine.

I did the usual, just to further wake up - check the Blackberry for new messages. Yes, 12 e-mails, 31 Facebook postings. Even a Tweet appearance this morning from Wane.

After the birth of our 5th grandchild yesterday (April 20), the honorable Jack Andrew Blade, to our youngest daughter Christen and newly commissioned father Andrew, (making Jack the 4th grandson prince, with Dylan Joy still as the single Princess), there was a bit more clamor on my social media networks. I love connections!

When I finally sat down in my black, fake leather rocking chair, that has dutifully served as my place of prayer to meet with my loving Creator, I opened my Jewish New Testament Bible to the next chapter I was to read this day. It was Matthew 14.

When I got to verse 14, He touched my heart.

“ So when He came ashore, He saw a huge crowd; and, filled with compassion for them,
He healed those of them who were sick.” CJB” (Matthew 14:14)

As He sometimes does when He wants me to share something with others, my own heart started to beat a bit faster. I could sense the inspiration come into my spirit, as that “feeling” started to rise in my chest. (And I knew it wasn’t the cup of coffee.)

His words to me were to simply pray, “Fill my heart with those things that fill Yours.”

And so I did. And I repeated it again. And again. And again. (Even as I write this my spirit continues to flicker with His excitement building in me, and my vision increasing, for the nations, and love for His people.

He is also wanting to speak to you too. Maybe by having you pray this same enduring word. By speaking softly out His love for you and the crying nations. Speaking it purposefully out of your own heart.

“Fill my heart with those things that fill Yours.”

I know He will. By simply asking. And then see what happens! (I dare you!)

Ahava to my family of friends,

Steve Martin
Founder/President
