All You have Been Walking Through is NOT for Nothing by Lana Vawser

All You have Been Walking Through

is NOT for Nothing

by Lana Vawser

Identity Network

I saw the winepress of heaven over the lives of many believers and many in that hidden place of pressing. The pressing has been intense and at times it feels as if the pressing could not increase anymore, but the pressing continued. The pressing from various sources, God has used all of them for the GOOD of His people and I saw such pure heavenly rich, glorious wine flowing from the winepress of the lives of God's people. It was saturated in the fragrance of heaven.

As I watched this pressing happening the more pressing that occurred the more the Father poured His love, His strength, His comfort and revelation into the hearts and lives of His people. So even though the pressing was so intense, MORE was being poured in than the pressing was seemingly taking. So unaware the people of God were in this hidden place of deep pressing, but they were actually living in a greater overflow of His love, strength, comfort and revelation than they ever had been.

As this glorious wine flowed from the lives and hearts of believers, I saw crowns flowing out in amidst this glorious heavenly wine. There were names written upon each of these crowns.

ESTHER

SAMUEL

DAVID

JOSEPH

DANIEL

These crowns fell at the feet of many believers and Jesus came and placed these crowns upon their heads. As I looked closer, on the front of the crown was one of those names mentioned above but on the back was the name of the believer. Instantly I knew that this pressing had been to bring these ones to the place of preparation where they would carry a similar anointing to the names placed on the front of these crowns, but not identical as they were created unique and individual, beautiful and different, hence their own name. I knew they were going to be used in similar ways to these heroes of the faith.

Encourage My People

Jesus said to me, "Lana, encourage my people that what they have been walking through is not for nothing, but for a greater purpose, vision and mission than they have imagined." I saw Him smile the most beautiful smile and His face was radiant with joy, expectancy and His eyes danced looking at His people, SO PROUD! With a wink and a smile He says to me, "Lana, tell them, it is going to be GREAT."

All of a sudden, I find myself standing before a stage that looked like a runway where models walk to display outfits. But this stage was so different. It was draped in the most beautiful curtains, like robes, that were red and with a smile on my face my heart knew that it was a sanctuary. A place that was so special, an inner chamber and the red curtains all around were reminders of the blood of the Lamb, and all that He purchased. There was glorious heavenly light in every part of the room that filled the room with such warmth and joy, such peace that nothing else mattered than being in this place.

It was the place that represented deep intimacy with God, the inner chamber, but also a stage set. I wondered why there was a stage, and into my heart came the words "to be placed on any stage of influence or stage of the world, it is birthed and remained upon by remaining in the place of deep intimacy with Me."

Jesus then stepped onto the stage, and my eyes filled with tears as I could feel His pleasure over His people, His complete joy at the release and unveiling.

He looked at me with His beautiful eyes and said to me, "It is time!!"

One by one He began to bring forth His people wearing crowns, each with the names written on the crowns. They were so beautiful and so wonderfully prepared.

"All for such a time as this," He spoke and handed each one a key, and the keys that each one of these were handed unlocked doors to their destiny. I saw them go into the world to begin to release all that was poured into them through the intense period of pressing.

In this encounter, I felt to encourage the people of God that ALL you have walked has not been for nothing. It has ALL had a perfect purpose. God has used it all, the good and the bad to bring you to this place, for such a time as this. All the things the enemy threw at you, He has turned, to bring you to this place of release.

New Mantles

God is releasing mantles right now in the heavenlies. These mantles are not to be treated lightly and they are mantles that have been released to those who have been through the pressing, that have walked the path of great sacrifice and continued to hold onto their Beloved. They have gone deeper into the inner chamber and pressed through when everything else has screamed at them to give up. The place where they have come to a place of such depth of intimacy that every part of them yearns and delights for Him and living before the audience of One.

He is releasing you now. He is releasing the Esthers, the Samuels, the Davids, the Josephs, the Daniels into the world. There is going to be an increase in dream interpretation in the Church and in the world, an increase in creative revelation in worship, an increase in the gift of administration and excellence, an increase in open doors to speak before people of influence releasing Kingdom principles.

Blueprints from heaven that have been given to the people of God in their pressing, in the winepress, the visions are being released now into the world and are going to be released into large corporations and these Kingdom principles released through these ones will not only bring increase to their corporations but salvations, signs and wonders into the marketplace.

Transformation in Governments

I felt the Lord wants His people believing for the transformation of GOVERNMENTS. Many of the keys that were released in this encounter were keys to unlock governments and minister to leaders of governments. There is a revival coming within governments. Jesus is going to visit world leaders in tremendous encounters in the night and great favor opening up through these ones being sent in to proclaim the Word of the Lord and bring about a Kingdom shift. Nations is now shifting nations with His love and Glory and He is moving into government to bring a REVIVAL OF HIS LOVE, which will bring even greater radical shifts in nations.

His People will Shine

I was then taken back into this encounter where I saw many of His people sitting on the floor around the stage of this inner chamber and they were weeping. I watched as Jesus went and knelt down beside each one and I heard their heart cries, "I am not a Joseph, I am not an Esther, I am not a Daniel."  Their hearts were full of insignificance, not knowing their value, and bound in an orphan spirit.

I saw Jesus touch the chin of each one, one by one and lift their heads to look at Him in the eyes. He spoke with such conviction, such love and compassion and He said, "THIS IS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU" and He stretched out His arms and I could see His heart, and inside His heart, I saw the crucifixion and as I saw Him on the Cross I saw Him look at each one of these and He spoke so tenderly and beautifully, "It was ALL FOR YOU!" and the people of God began to sob and sob as the love and kindness of God enveloped them, healing their hearts and breaking off the orphan spirit. "All so you could be Mine," such healing and restoration was coming into their hearts that I began to weep.

He then bent back down and handed each one a scroll. As they unraveled this scroll there were pictures of each moment of their lives, when they were children and fell and hurt their knee, to when they were adults and got a job promotion, dreams coming true and in each picture I saw HIM! Every moment of their life mattered. My eyes then gazed over to the list on the other side of the scroll and it was every hearts desire, every dream and how He had molded, shaped, planned, perfected them and their hearts cries in His presence to bring them into the place of fullness and deeper knowledge of Him and His goodness. The presence and LOVE of the Father was ALL over this scroll with the words ringing in my ears, "If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father." (John 14:9)

These ones stood to their feet, free of the orphan spirit KNOWING their value and knowing the unshakeable truth that they ARE LOVED and they are a SON AND DAUGHTER of the most GLORIOUS GOOD GOD!! I saw them go into the world into their day-to-day lives and they were releasing BOMBS OF LOVE through their words and their actions and attitudes and LOVE REVIVALS were happening EVERYWHERE they went. There were deposits of God's love being released everywhere, their feet trod in signs and wonders.

These ones who thought they were insignificant and of no value, not knowing how LOVED they were, were releasing a LOVE REVIVAL everywhere they went. People were coming to know Jesus at a rapid pace because THEY WERE KNOWN FOR THEIR LOVE.

These ones were even ministering in the Church to those who do not know their love, that were caught in division, caught in unforgiveness, bitterness and hatred and were releasing impartations of God's love through their testimonies and others were being set free in the Kingdom, reawakened and revived and then going into the world of their day to day lives and releasing His love. It was a LOVE REVOLUTION!

No matter where you are, no matter what you are walking, no matter what you have walked, as you are part of His Kingdom, it is YOUR TIME TO SHINE! It is YOUR TIME TO ARISE! Stay deep in the inner chamber with Him.  What you have walked was not for nothing. It has been for such a time as this. Doors are opening now for your destiny.

The world is waiting for you. It is time to take your place. The pressing even though was one of the most difficult things you have ever walked, was one of your greatest blessing. You just watch how He is going to use you! The best is yet to come.

As He said to me in the encounter, "Tell them Lana, 'It's going to be GREAT!!!!'"

Do You Want God to Use You in Mighty Ways? - R.T. Kendall

Do You Want God to Use You in Mighty Ways?

by R.T. Kendall

Identity Network

Do you want God to use you in mighty ways? How great is your desire to be His anointed instrument in setting captives free, healing and bringing Him glory?

I have said many times that I would rather have a greater anointing than anything. I suppose that is a God-honoring request, but I am not so sure. I want it so much that I cannot tell whether this desire is natural or spiritual. The anointing is the power of the Holy Spirit that makes our gift function with ease. When I live within my anointing, my gift works without effort, but the moment I go outside my anointing, I find myself struggling.

God does not want us to struggle. He wants us to cast our anxiety on Him (1 Peter 5:7). But at least twice in his life Moses struggled. First, he was overwhelmed by people coming to him in droves to get his verdict on civil matters among the children of Israel. His wise father-in-law, Jethro, saw all that Moses was doing for the people and said to him, "What is this thing that you are doing for the people? Why are you sitting by yourself while all the people stand around you from morning until evening? ... What you are doing is not good. 18 You will surely wear yourself out, both you, and these people who are with you, for this thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to do it by yourself" (Exodus 18:14, 17-18).  Jethro then advised Moses to designate authority to others - appointing capable men as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens - letting them handle the simple cases and Moses the more difficult (vv. 19-26).

The Transfer of Anointing

The second occasion was when the people complained about the food - pining for what they ate in Egypt and complaining that they now "never see anything but this manna!" Moses brought this to the Lord and told him he could not bear the burden of their constant complaining. Moses was then instructed to choose 70 elders.

God assured Moses that he would lighten his load: "I will take of the Spirit which is on you and will put it on them, and they will bear the burden of the people with you, and you will not bear it by yourself" (Numbers 11:17). After that the Lord came down in a cloud and spoke with Moses. God "took of the Spirit that was on him, and gave it to the seventy elders, and when the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but did not do it again" (v. 25). However, two of them who had remained in the camp prophesied, and Joshua was upset. "My lord Moses, forbid them," he said to Moses. "Are you jealous for my sake?" he asked Joshua. "Oh, that all the people of the Lord were prophets, and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!" (vv. 28-29).

Why would Moses want everybody to prophesy and all to have the Spirit on them? Because when one person is in leadership and sees people struggle with their maladies, he realizes he needs all the help he can get! Joshua had not yet inherited Moses' mantle and wrongly assumed that Moses wanted to be the head and center of everything. How wrong Joshua was. The transfer of anointing to others lightens the load of the one with whom the buck stops. When all the people have the Spirit on them, it will mean that the work of God functions with ease - and with no rival spirit in control.

We learn from this how God can take from our anointing and pass it on to others. We are not told that Moses laid hands on the 70 elders. The impression is given that God merely did it by Himself - taking from Moses' anointing and passing it on without Moses losing any measure of the Spirit in the process. This is the wonderful thing about Christian ministry; what we give away we keep.

Don't Keep the Holy Spirit to Yourself

Nothing would be more thrilling than God taking from one's ministry and passing it on to others. I have longed for the day that not only would my anointing change lives and increase their measure of the Holy Spirit but also even heal people's bodies under my preaching. But if we want to keep the Holy Spirit to ourselves, it is unlikely that God will use us much.

We also learn from this account that God does not want us to bear a heavy load. He knows how much we can bear and will step in - never too late, never too early, but always on time.

Ask the Lord today to give you an ever increasing anointing to operate under, and then for it to be transferred to many people for His honor and glory.

"Celebrating Our Savior! The Worship of Our Lord by Martha, Lazarus and Mary" Catherine Brown, Glasgow, Scotland

"Celebrating Our Savior! The Worship of Our Lord by Martha, Lazarus and Mary"
Catherine Brown, Glasgow, Scotland
The Elijah List

...but only one thing is needed... Luke 10:42b

As we celebrate Resurrection Day, my heart is drawn once more into gazing into the face of Christ through Scripture. I'm certain that you, like me, long for a deeper place of holy intimacy with our Saviour. May we each experience this spiritual reality as we journey together this week in a fresh outpouring of grace and glory from Heaven. Yet, even as we long for new God-encounters, we come to pour out all that we are to the Lord. Let this Passover week be a time when we seek to give and not take, to serve and not seek to be served.

As I was meditating on John 12 I was blessed afresh by the profound picture of worship it paints through the lives of three extremely different siblings – Lazarus, Martha and Mary.

Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived at Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Here a dinner was given in Jesus' honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. John 12:1-3

It's so tempting to rush through a familiar portion of Scripture without waiting on the Holy Spirit to bring a fresh illumination. As I re-read this beautiful text, the Holy Spirit impressed this known truth upon me, and in the quiet place of humble waiting I grasped afresh how deep the worship of these three precious individuals was.

It was near Passover, and an occasion had been set apart to focus only on Jesus; a moment in time had been divinely mandated for pure and unadulterated worship of the Lord. A time had been consecrated to wait with Christ and soak up each second of His grace-filled presence. This wondrous encounter would precede the eternal mystery of God outworked on the earth through the beauty and brutality of Calvary. Here, in a little home in Bethany, Heaven came down to earth and the atmosphere inside the house was charged with glory.

A Time to Serve: Martha's Worship

Martha had once been rebuked by the Lord for placing service above worship (see Luke 10:41-42), but now there was not a single word of correction about Martha's service, and the reason was that she now flowed out of love for Christ as labor to Him rather than from a weary place of labor for Him. She was not functioning out of any misplaced sense of duty but rather used her anointed gift of hospitality in worship to her Savior. Long gone was the sense of "having to," now replaced with the reality of "wanting to" use her God-given talents in worship of her Savior. (Photo via Wikimedia Commons)

God has entrusted gifts, calling, anointing, and commission to every born-again Believer. May we endeavour to live in a place of focus and flow that allows the Spirit of God to permeate Christ's love through us to all those we are privileged to serve.

Perhaps, as she moved around the table catering to the Lord and the dear friends who had gathered at their home, Martha reflected on the words that had marked her as a woman of faith when they rose from within her as she spoke to Jesus at the death of her brother Lazarus: "But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask" (John 11:22).

She came to Jesus believing that after four days the Lord would raise her dead brother. She had spoken out of the depths of desperation of a broken heart, but nonetheless she had spoken triumphantly above her circumstances, and her hope was not lost in Christ. Now here she stood to love and serve the One whose resurrection power had raised her brother from the grave. How her faith must have soared to inexplicable heights in those few brief days, and how her heart was surely moved in supreme tenderness to worship Christ with all that she was.

Precious saints, bow your heart with me now and surrender afresh to worshipping God with everything you are.

A Time to Rest: Lazarus' Worship

I want you to use your imagination for just a few moments to picture Lazarus reclining at the table with Jesus. Don't think about the food or the wine; don't deliberate about the table or the benches or even who the other guests might have been. For just one second reflect on the look of adoration that must have been on Lazarus' face as he gazed into the eyes of Christ.

Ponder the reality that here was the living, breathing body of a man once dead who was now alive and well by the side of the King of Glory. Don't you feel he might have nestled as close to Jesus as he possibly could, perhaps even laying his head on the Lord's chest to listen to His heartbeat? Don't you suppose the atmosphere of faith in that room would have been gloriously tangible?

When Christ draws near the things of this world fade away. (Photo by Kevin Moffatt "Come Out!" viaelijahshopper.com)

We can only contemplate what Lazarus experienced during those four days when his body lay dead. What visions had he seen of Heaven and angels and glory? What had he experienced of Hell? These are questions we can never answer this side of eternity, however, it is interesting to ponder.

Lazarus was raised to testify to Christ as the Resurrection and the Life and to God's miracle-working power. Every second of Lazarus' existence would be devoted to being a witness for Jesus. May we, too, emulate his holy, fiery passion to make Christ known throughout the nations!

A Time for Extravagant Adoration: Mary's Worship

We often think of Mary as the one who sat in attentive wonder at the feet of Christ, and rightly so, for Scripture affirms this (see Luke 10:39). Mary was a woman given to extravagant God-ward action. Yet, interestingly, Mary was not the first to go to the Master when her brother Lazarus died, rather it was her sister Martha who went out to meet Him whilst Mary stayed at home.

Did she wait to pray for Martha's encounter with the Lord? Was it within Mary's heart that her only sister Martha would know the blessed place of adoration she had attained in her relationship with Christ? Or was it a very different Mary who sat at home: Was her faith failing? Did she feel disappointed that the Master had been so near to Bethany and yet had delayed His coming, and in the interim period her beloved brother had died?

We will never truly know why Mary delayed in going to Christ, but we are told that when Martha returned "she went back and called her sister Mary aside. 'The Teacher is here,' she said, 'and is asking for you.' When Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to Him" (John 11:28-29).

The Jews at the sisters' home had been comforting Mary. I sense Mary might have been having a faith-crisis, but when she learned that the Master was asking for her personally, something broke in Mary, allowing her to move from grief to the glory realm of one-on-one encounter with God.

The speed of her going to Jesus was so rapid that the Jews who had been with her followed her, expecting her to run in her grief to the tomb (see John 11:32).

But Mary didn't run to the tomb, she ran to the One who is Resurrection and Life and she fell at His feet and said, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died" (verse 32). (Photo by Jennifer Page "Forgiven" viaelijahshopper.com)

What did Mary mean? She was acknowledging Christ as Healer, but it would seem she failed to fully comprehend that He could raise Lazarus back to life. Jesus was deeply moved by Mary's grief and those of the other mourners, too. There was no reproof or rejection, only the all-encompassing love of God expressed in Christ. Jesus wept with the brokenhearted and then proceeded to call Lazarus back to life.

Envision the moment and rejoice, for we too will know this reality at the end of the Age when we are raised to eternal life in Christ.

In the meantime, let us also celebrate that God has personally called each one of us and meets us in every detail of our lives. He has an eternal plan and purpose for each of us, and Christ alone commands our destinies. Hallelujah!

Now consider the expensive perfume that was to be saved for the day of the Lord's burial: "Then Mary took a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume" (John 12:3).

Perhaps Mary had looked at her sister Martha enthralled in humble service and worship, then turned her attention to her once-dead brother now vibrant with life whose eyes were riveted with love on the Master, and she too remembered her season of agonizing pain, loss, and doubt now replaced with the wonder of resurrection glory. How could she withhold anything from the Lord?

She looked at that expensive perfume, and there was nothing that could hold her back. I envisage the multitude of angels that must have attended that occasion when all Heaven watched with bated breath as Mary picked up the nard. This was an unforgettable moment of holy awe, and out of the flow of Mary's heart came an action of dynamic worship and wonder and she offered Him her everything. All of it, every single drop of the expensive nard, was poured out on the Master as the alabaster jar was broken open.

She loved Him so and nothing could be withheld; her beloved Savior was irreplaceable.

She poured it out and the whole house was flooded with fragrance. (Photo by Lillis Boyer "Holy Incense" via elijahshopper.com)

I imagine the silence and then the outpouring of grace and the crescendo of angelic worship that trumpeted earthwards as holy beings celebrated and joined the adoring hearts of Mary, Lazarus, and Martha. Heaven and earth were joined in this moment of marvel as Christ was worshipped and adored.

May we live in the overflow of such expression of love to and for our Savior. I pray that our lives would be a fragrance to Jesus and that we would each breakthrough in victorious faith to live lifestyles worthy of His lovely name. We were made to worship and adore Him. He is worthy of all our praise. Today and always may God bless you and keep you in His tender love.

A Sound from Heaven - Like a Mighty Rushing Wind by Elaine Tavolacci

A Sound from Heaven - Like a Mighty Rushing Wind by Elaine Tavolacci

Identity Network
In the book of Acts chapter two we read about the day of Pentecost when the disciples were in the Upper Room in one accord, and suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Holy Spirit gave them utterance. They were so intoxicated with the glory of God that some of the onlookers thought that they were drunk with wine. Peter went on to say, these men are not drunk as you suppose, and he quoted the prophecy from Joel 2:28-32. This prophecy has been fulfilled.

In the book of Acts chapter four when they were being threatened, they prayed, and asked the Lord for boldness, to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Jesus. The building then literally shook and they were filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Lord says the winds are stirring once again, and I am releasing a mighty wind of My glory to transform lives "suddenly."  Multitudes will be brought into the kingdom for such a time as this. Many will be healed, captives will be delivered and set free, and many will be brought into repentance. Just as the plates are shifting under the seas causing earthquakes of great magnitudes, there is a shift happening simultaneously in the heavenlies. I am stirring the atmosphere to bring change to the church as you know it. Angelic activity is being released from the third heaven that no man can stop or reverse. Do not judge things by what you see happening in the natural, but watch what I am about to do. I Am El Shaddai and I am sending a tsunami of My glory.

I Am Sending My Glory

Just as the winds are blowing in the natural, I am about to send a mighty rushing wind across this country and around the world. Just as the winds came "suddenly" in the upper room, I am sending My Glory to revamp things in the natural. What I intended for in these last days shall be accomplished. You shall see a great acceleration in the lives of my people. I will bring times of refreshing in times of drought. I will bring light to areas where darkness seems to prevail. I am sending the latter and the former rains. Do not become fearful when you see the dark clouds but rejoice. It is the dark clouds that carry the heavy rain. This is where My glory dwells and My Anointing will be released. As I said in My word, the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea; says the Lord.

Habakkuk 2:14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

Acts 2:1-4 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 4:29-31 Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus." And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

By CBN.com

CBN.com – Missing person: The Holy Spirit

Many people may have had an experience like that of the little girl who heard the Holy Ghost (as the Holy Spirit is sometimes called) mentioned in church from time to time, but so vaguely and infrequently she could only guess what sort of ghost this might be. So one day, when she venture down into the dark furnace room in the church's cellar, she decided with a child's firm logic that this spooky place must be where the Holy Ghost lurked.
The fact is, adult believers often act as if the Holy Spirit really was hiding in the church cellar. They may know something about the Holy Spirit, but they don't know Him personally or realize that He is God in the same way the Son and the Father are God. When they read the Bible, many people are surprised to find that the Holy Spirit was at the very dawn of time: "The Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters" (Genesis1:2), and many are amazed to find out there are approximately 100 references to the Holy Spirit throughout the Old and New Testaments.
Nevertheless, the Spirit's role is fundamental both to creation and the life of the believer. When a person comes to Jesus Christ, he receives Christ into his heart. The Spirit of God comes and joins with the spirit of the believer. This "indwelling Spirit" reproduces the life of Jesus in the believer's life.
What, Then, Is The Baptism In The Holy Spirit?
The baptism in the Holy Spirit is an empowering for service that takes place in the life of the Christian (Acts 1:5,8). In it we are immersed in the Spirit's life and power.
To illustrate, if we drank water from a glass, then the water would be inside us. However, if we went to the beach and stepped into the ocean, then we would be in the water. We receive, as it were, a drink of the Holy Spirit when we are saved, but when we are baptized in the Spirit, it is as if that initial drink becomes an ocean that completely surrounds us.
Just as the indwelling Spirit that Christians receive when they are saved reproduces the life of Jesus, so the outpoured, or baptizing, Spirit reproduces the ministry of Jesus, including miracles and healings.
Why Do We Need The Baptism In The Holy Spirit?
We need a power beyond ourselves for service and ministry in Christ's Kingdom.
When Jesus gave the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), He knew that His disciples could not fulfill it in their own power. Therefore, He had a special gift in store for them: It was His plan to give them the same power that He had -- the power of the Spirit of God. So, immediately after giving them the Great Commission, Jesus commanded his disciples not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father promised, "which," He said, "you heard of from Me; for John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now" (Acts 1:4-5). He further promised: "You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth" (Acts 1:8).
The disciples waited in Jerusalem as Jesus had commanded, and one day when they were all together, "suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent, rushing winds, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance" (Acts 2:3,4). Then Peter explained to the crowd that gathered that they were seeing the working of God's Spirit and told them about Jesus. The Christian church began that day with the disciples and the three thousand people who joined them as a result of the day's events.
We can undertake making disciples of all nations with some degree of success without the baptism in the Holy Spirit, but when we do, we are undertaking a supernatural task with limited power.
It is God's will -- it is His commandment -- that we be baptized, or filled with the Holy Spirit: "Be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18). The knowledge and reality of the empowering Spirit enables us to reproduce the works of Jesus.
When May I Receive The Baptism In The Holy Spirit?
It can take place at the moment you confess faith in Christ, as in the case of the first Gentile convert, Cornelius (Acts 10:44-46; 11:15, 16); but often it occurs some time after the salvation experience (Acts 8:12-17).
Is There Anything To Fear?
Some people fear that if they ask for the baptism in the Holy Spirit, what they experience won't be the authentic working of the Spirit. But once they do ask for it, they are always glad they did. God doesn't cause us to do anything we don't want to, and all His gifts are good and perfect (James 1:17). Jesus said, "Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will be? Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?" (Luke 11:11-13). The baptism in the Holy Spirit is an even better gift than any material gift you could receive, and God wants you to have it because He loves you and wants the very best for you.
What Should I Do Before Asking?
The Bible says that a wise man counts the cost before he begins to build a tower (Luke 14:28). This beautiful experience of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a free gift, but you must be willing to submit fully to God to receive it.
Jesus will respond to a totally yielded vessel. He never asks anything of you that you are incapable of giving, nor does He ever fail to give you something greater in return when you do give your all. The joy He gives through total obedience to Him far outweighs anything you could possibly give up.
There is one more important consideration: In Acts 8, a man named Simon, deeply involved in the occult, wanted to buy the gift of the Holy Spirit. Peter sharply rebuked Simon, commanding him to repent. Therefore, if you ever at any time had anything to do with the occult (Ouija boards, fortune tellers, seances, horoscopes, ESP, transcendental mediation, hypnotism, or other such practices), you must renounce and turn away from all such sinful participation, and you must ask for God's forgiveness and cleansing.
How Do I Receive The Baptism In The Holy Spirit?
You only have to do two things.
First, once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior you just have to ask God to baptize you in the Holy Spirit. The Bible says, "Ask, and it shall be given to you" (Luke 11:9).
Second, believe you have in fact received this gift from God. The apostle Paul, writing to the Galatians, said, "Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing with faith?"
(Galatians 3:2). The answer, obviously, is faith. You have to believe that if you ask, you will receive.
Pray this prayer if you sincerely desire to receive the baptism in God's Holy Spirit:
"Heavenly Father, at this moment I come to You. I thank You that Jesus saved me. I pray that the Holy Spirit might come upon me. Lord Jesus, baptize me now in the Holy Spirit. I receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit right now by faith in Your Word. May the anointing, the glory, and the power of God come upon me and into my life right now. May I be empowered for service from this day forward. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for baptizing me in Your Holy Spirit. Amen."
Now, having asked and received, begin to practice the power of the Spirit. An ideal place to begin is where the first apostles did, praising God in a new language. To do this, begin praising God out loud in whatever words come to you. Tell Him how much you love Him. Thank Him, worship Him, and yield your voice to Him. Now let Him give you new words of praise you never heard before. Praise Him with those words, too. You'll find that thiscan be a very rewarding experience of communication with God that will build up your faith. Continue to pray to God each day in the language that the Holy Spirit has given you.
But this "prayer language" is just one of the gifts that God wants to give you through the baptism in His Spirit.
The Gifts and Fruit of the Holy Spirit
The apostle Paul told the Corinthians that the Holy Spirit would manifest Himself among them in special gifts, of which speaking in tongues was only one: "Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware....To one is give the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the distinguishing of spirit, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues" (I Corinthians 12:1,8-10).
Paul also wrote that the Holy Spirit produces "fruit" in the lives of believers. These are virtues that demonstrate Jesus' righteousness in the lives of His disciples: "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control" (Galatians 5:22).
So, in asking for the baptism in the Holy Spirit you are availing yourself of these gifts for advancing God's Kingdom and allowing the Holy Spirit to further cultivate in your life the fruit of righteousness -- two great helps in living a life God can use mightily for His glory.
That's the way it is with God. God is offering the baptism in the Holy Spirit to people who need only to reach out and receive it in order to be on fire to fully serve Him.
Walking in the Spirit
By now you can see that the Holy Spirit is so much more than a shadowy figure to pay lip-service to on Sunday morning. He can be with you and in your to bring new life to your Christian walk. Likewise, the baptism in the Holy Spirit is more than a single experience. It is a continual dependence on the Spirit for guidance and strength in all circumstances. "If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit" (Galatians 5:25).
The baptism in the Holy Spirit cannot be earned. You cannot become "good enough" to receive it. It is a gift from God. It is not a "cure-all" for your problems. But the same wonderful power that enabled Jesus to open blind eyes, to command the elements of nature, and to live a life pleasing to the Father during His ministry on earth is also available to you. Ask, and it shall be given to you.
