Need a Dad? - Lesson Taught. Lesson Learned. - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Need a Dad?
- Lesson Taught. Lesson Learned.

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“And He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse." (Malachi 4:6, NKJV)

In prayer this morning the Lord reminded me of my dad, Louis James Martin, who graduated to his heavenly reward over 15 years ago at the age of 67, as a result of lymphoma cancer. I was giving thanks to my Father that my Dad had taught me practical things while growing up – like putting away the wrench tool after I used it, so it wouldn’t rust in the rain. You know – just practical, common sense things like that.

As I continued praying, I realized that many of the current generation we gave birth to don’t have a “real” Dad, or Mom, who were/are around to teach them even the basic, practical things in life. Sure, each of us had at least one parent in the beginning at the hospital, but not many then had a father or mother, who loved them enough to train them, encourage them, or show them how to live, after they left the place of their birth.

Few had a real mentor to teach them that they weren’t given life to just exist for themselves. But their life is to have life, a life with purpose, and understanding of the Creator’s plan, as they were created to be. Not only in the natural realm, but especially even more so in the spiritual one.

I mean – how many of this generation now in their teens, including even those hitting their 40’s, know what life is all about, other than playing video games for hours, standing in line for the latest hot movie a day before it opens, or getting drunk, taking drugs of all kinds, or having sex (with whomever), beginning in their middle school years?

Where are the fathers? Where are the mothers?

How far we have fallen.

The verse written just before Malachi 4:6, before the restoration of the fathers to their children, says it even more which is worth noting.

"Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse." (Malachi 4:5-6, NASU)

Our Father in heaven clearly states that He is going to do something about the mess our kids, and their kids, are in. God the Father says He is going to send Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. To do what? To restore the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.

As for me, I think that day is now. Certainly we are approaching the great and terrible day of the Lord, in these last days. Thus so, I am looking, I am expecting, I am believing the Lord is going to keep this promise, His promise to His people.

Will each child have a father and mother to train them, to teach them, to instruct them in the ways of the Lord? I don’t think so, but I do believe that those who are longing for such a one in their life will certainly be given one – a “parent” who will care for them. Teach them right from wrong. Black and white. No gray stuff here.

And for those of us who know what to do, how to do it, and when to do it – live as we were created to live– we will be given these ones to do just that. Show them the way they are to go.

I am glad my Dad taught me the basics of life. That wrench that I would have left out in the grass, after adjusting the motor on my lawnmower, would have rusted after the first rain. And then I would have had to buy another one, using money I would have spent on a nice hamburger and French fries.

I am very grateful for that, but even more so, how he taught me, by example, how to live right.

Lesson taught. Lesson learned. We have to do the same for those who need it now.

My eyes are open. My heart is ready, as a father, to teach those who want to be taught.

My heart has been turned to my children, and those who need a dad.

So think on this, in the love of Jesus,

Throughout our lives, God keeps His hand on our shoulders and nudges us on to more than what we could ever realize. I am excited to share how He did it this with me, and am confident mine will be a story you’ll be able to relate to.

As I unveil my story, think back to those times when you knew there was some¬thing more but you just couldn’t put your finger on it. You knew deep down that life wasn’t what the TV sitcoms portrayed it to be. In our souls there is the hope, the cry for more, that someday questions will be answered and promises fulfilled if we just kept plugging away at what we know to do.

In The Promise I share my 40 year journey with you, and show you that dreams do come true. Though Peter Pan isn’t real, the Lord, the One Who created us, certainly is, and He has a plan in place for each one of us. When you are done reading this story, my prayer is that you too will know more of that good plan and His purpose for you.

Seasons, Numbers & Time - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Seasons, Numbers & Time

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Now Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, "I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter." And Laban said, "It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me." So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed only a few days to him because of the love he had for her.” (Genesis 29:18-20 NKJV)

In an earlier message I wrote on numbers, and shared how the Lord pays close attention to numbers. He is exact in His attempt to teach us His ways. He uses numbers in every aspect of our life, beginning with the date we are born, the length of years we live; even with the sunrise and sunset, as the heavens daily declare His glory and presence all around us.

He is the God of all, who delights in order and organized systems. As is quite the opposite of our enemy, our God has set plans, purposes and alignments. He is not chaotic, disorderly, or confused. He knows Who He is, what He is, and how He reveals Himself to us. I AM is His Name, high above all.

So how do seasons and numbers come into play? All throughout Scripture, from Genesis 1:1 to the end of the Book at the Revelation of Jesus 22:21, we can see how orderly the Living God of Israel operates. That is the way He is. The seasons He gives to us on this earth, and the times which are numbered and also laid out for us, can draw us closer to Him, when we realize just how interested and concerned He is, with seasons, numbers and time.

When I looked up just the number seven in the concordance, I was amazed at the quantity of Scriptures which that number alone is found in. One such verse, which I included in the beginning of this message, as stated in the Torah, is written, “Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed only a few days to him because of the love he had for her.” (Genesis 29:20 NKJV – and then Jacob had to work yet another seven years after that – Gen. 29:30!)

Do you think the Lord knew that one set of seven years, and then another, were in store for Jacob?  Do you think God the Father just let it happen to His servant, one of the three main Patriarchs of the Jews, while He attended to other concerns in the vast universe? I don’t think so. As in my life, I believe the Lord knows exactly our times and seasons, and wants us to seek Him to know them too. He wants to further reveal Himself to us, day in and day out.

“…and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist…” (Acts 17:26-28 NASU)

Speaking of the number seven, I know it is an important one in the Lord’s counting system. Seven represents completeness and perfection. If you do a Bible study on that specific number, you will see what, where and how the Lord has used it.

In my own life, I have looked back at the increments of seven years in my life, and how those years have brought a completion of one season and the start of another. Often a major family move occurred. I can definitely see the hand of the Lord in it all.

Just going back to 1973 – my high school graduation year – was a clear end of one segment of my life, and the start of another. Then in August of 1980, our family moved from Illinois to Michigan, to begin a new life with a church in East Lansing (Shiloh Fellowship, later New Covenant Christian Church). It also meant a new job, new house, and new friends.

In 1987, seven years later to the exact month (August) we moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as I started my new position with Derek Prince Ministries, assisting Mahesh Chavda Ministries in my extra time.

Seven years later, in 1994, again in the summer, we moved with Mahesh Chavda Ministries to Charlotte, NC. See how cleverly I planned all this out???!! No. It was the Lord Who did it!

In 2001, yet another seven year segment later, I was back at Derek Prince Ministries, who had also moved to Charlotte from Florida, in the mid 1990’s.

So what happened in 2008? I was in the exact middle of five years of service as the USA Director of Vision For Israel (Barry & Batya Segal). Little did I know, I was in preparation for our own ministry, that of Love For His People, which wasn’t even in my mind at that time. But it was in the heart of my Father. And He had been preparing me for it all those 24 years serving other ministries.

For me, 2017 will complete yet another seven years - from the time Love For His People was founded in April of 2010. I am believing another major marker in my life history will be laid down, and the start of a new season in the Lord.

What about you? Have you ever gone back and looked at your life, noting certain years and what natural and spiritual events occurred, as the Lord was directing your steps? Take time and do it. I think you will be amazed, and give glory to God for His hand on your head, as He directed your feet, whether you realized it or not.

We serve a great God, the Maker of the Universe. The heavenlies, immense star systems, thousands of galaxies and beyond, all speak of Him and His divine order. And yet, with all that, He has ordained our specific times and seasons.

Let Him show you just how He has also done so in your life. I think you will be very grateful, and give thanks for His love.

Now think on this, in the love of Jesus,

How to Overcome Anxiety and Depression Naturally This Winter

For many of us, the cooler months are welcome to give us a break from the hot temperatures of the summer. All too often, depression along with anxiety soon reign in on our lives for a variety of reasons.
The days are shorter and the sunlight is lessened which affects the circadian rhythms of the body. More time is spent indoors during this time period of our lives which can also lead to feelings of claustrophobia.
The Creator has provided us with many different fresh foods to help us during this season of change in our lives. He has given us a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables which help the body to naturally ward off depression and feelings of anxiety. Many scientists call these foods the "Good Mood" foods.
The Delicious Apple
Apples are rich in antioxidants helping the body to prevent oxidation and they are even great for preventing inflammation. Eating apples provides fiber to the diet and the fare can also help with balancing blood sugar levels in the body.
Anxiety-Prevention Cinnamon
Cinnamon has been used for centuries to treat ailments and it is one of the most popular spices in the world. It is often used for anxiety prevention and it can help to balance blood sugar levels. Simply adding one teaspoon to the diet provides nearly one-fourth of the day to day needed manganese. One study at the Wheeling Jesuit Univ. found cinnamon to enhance cognitive functions. This was possible by subjects smelling it on a regular basis.
Zinc-Packed Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin seeds are great for the body during this time of the year. The seeds are full of zinc which provides one-fourth the daily allowance (in one ounce). Doctor Deans with Psychology Today calls this food item as necessary for resiliency. The seeds help prevent depression within the body as well as fight against inflammations.
Immune-Fighting Squash
Squash is another delicious vegetable which provides wonderful nutrients to the body during the cooler months. Simply adding eight ounces of butternut variety will give the individual close to twenty percent of needed manganese and potassium. In giving the immune system a boost, the food serving provides over fifty percent (50 percent) of vitamin C.
Super Power Sweet Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes are full of vitamin A which is considered one of the super power antioxidants. One serving of this sweet will provide over fifty percent (50 percent) of vitamin C and manganese. Other vitamins and minerals are present within this God given food item that adds to the "needed nutrients" list for this time of year. In addition, one case study found sweet potatoes to hold strong anti-inflammation properties which can prevent disease processes including cardiovascular issues, cancers, neuro diseases, and even diabetes. Publication was recorded within theJournal of Biomedicine & Biotechnology.
Brain-Protecting Eggplant
Eggplant is known to help protect the brain by preventing damage through free radicals along with nutrients to guard the fats within the membranes of the brain. Eggplants are wonderfully full of fiber, manganese, and copper. Phytonutrients (nasunin) are also found in this nightshade which provide additional benefits.
Depression-Fighting Turmeric
Turmeric is a "strong agent" found to fight depression. This is evident in medical studies found within the Journal of Affective Disorders (2014). The information points out curcumin is found within this spice and is shown to strongly influence depressive indications in patients followed during studies. The spice also holds abilities to help the immune system as well as fight inflammation.

God Don’t Make Junk - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

God Don’t Make Junk
Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“So God created humankind in his own image; in the image of God he created him:
male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 CJB

A few years ago, maybe even in my high school days, back in “the” day, there was a popular saying, “God Don’t Make Junk.” Any of you remember that? (Proves you too are over 30!)

It seemed to be a real encouragement to people. T-shirts, posters and artwork creations used it quite well and quite often. I know it was an inspiration for me, when I was the one who was a mere 5’0” in my freshman class and everyone else, even that pretty freshman girl that I liked, was just a bit taller than I was. Or like several others, who because the grade school we came from didn’t carry the “popular” status that the other ones across town did, and thus did “those kids”, our social standing was, well, a bit lower on the ladder ranking. Yes, sometimes we felt just a bit below the ground, and sometimes even wanted to dig a hole and crawl in it.

I know it is true today with young people, and even adults. We have this great image laid out before us, on TV, in print, in the movies, of how we are supposed to be, and yet it is hard to not have that affect you personally, deep in your thoughts and heart. Some even resort to taking their own life, as they are told theirs isn’t important because of this or that ungodly lie.

But no one has to accept those lies. We can believe the truth - we have been created in His image. Because God is good, because God IS Love, because GOD IS OUR CREATOR, He doesn’t make junk. Our worth, our importance, our self-esteem is to be established in Him, because of Him and Jesus’ redemptive work on the cross on our behalf.

No life is to be rejected. No person, born or unborn, is to have their worth determined by some standard that man has chosen to establish, to set themselves on high, to the detriment of all others. No Jew, Gentile, black, white, Christian, Hindu, Muslim, or anyone else is to be rejected. All are loved by the Lord and sought by Him, so that each can receive and know His Son Jesus as their Savior, and live with the full knowledge that He is their Father and Perfect Creator.

And as we walk in His love, acceptance and understanding of our worth in Him, we will see our lives become even more and more brighter and beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like Him.

For as the truth in Scripture is written, “Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are — face to face! They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We're free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.” 2 Cor. 3:16-18 THE MESSAGE

As we look to Jesus, Yeshua HaMashiach, our Messiah, who is the Author and Finisher of our faith, our eyes with meet His eyes. That is the look we need to focus on. He is the One we need to declare to our heads and firmly place into our hearts, that “God don’t make junk.” He certainly doesn’t, and you can stand tall in that truth.

Now think on this,
