CBN's Erick Stakelbeck first reported on blood moons more than a year ago and his story went viral. It's been viewed more than a million times.
We wondered why Erick decided to cover blood moons andwhy he thinks so many people are interested.
Historically blood moon tetrads have coincided with major events for Israel and the Jewish people.
"I don't believe in coincidences," Erick says. "Fasten your seat belts."

Hagee on Iran Deal: Final Blood Moon a Divine Warning

Hagee on Iran Deal: Final Blood Moon

a Divine Warning

SAN ANTONIO -- The rise of ISIS. The Iran nuclear deal. An Israeli war with Hamas.

All of these world-altering events have taken place since Passover 2014, when the first in a series of four blood moons appeared in the sky.

We're now approaching the last of these blood moons, and some believe it could be a signal that God is getting ready to move on the world stage.

It's called a tetrad: four total lunar eclipses appearing in close succession, just a few months apart and turning the moon into an eerie blood red color.

These tetrads have been a rare occurrence throughout history, yet we are now in the midst of one. It began in April 2014 on the Jewish holiday of Passover, when the first blood moon appeared. Soon, we'll see the final blood moon: on September 28, during the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles.

A Sign from God?

The final blood moon comes as a nuclear deal is being finalized with the Iranian regime -- a deal that some fear could lead to war.

"I have said it many times and I say it again: the day America turns its back on Israel will be the day God turns his back on America," said Pastor John Hagee, who leads Cornerstone Church in San Antonio. "And the day we validate this Iran nuclear deal as signed, sealed and delivered, will be the day we stick our finger in the eye of God."

Hagee is author of the bestselling book Four Blood Moons and appears in a recent film of the same name.

He believes the current tetrad of four blood moons is a sign from God to the world that something major is about to happen involving Israel -- with Iran's drive towards a nuclear weapon being a possible trigger.

"What the United States of America has done in the Iran agreement is to guarantee war," Hagee told CBN News. "Anyone in the world who has any conception about the ideology of Iran knows war is coming. These people were shouting 'death to America' and 'death to Israel' the day they signed the deal in Iran."

"Iran has been saying for years that it is going to wipe Israel off the map," he continued. "They have the will to do it and now that the Obama administration has paved the way for them to get a nuclear weapon, they've given Iran the power to do it."

Hagee notes that the three previous tetrads of blood moons -- all falling on Jewish feast days -- have coincided with major events for Israel and the Jewish people:
In 1492, the Jews were expelled from Spain and Columbus discovered America, which would become a safe haven for the Jewish people.

In 1948, Israel was re-born as a nation.

And in 1967, Israel recaptured Jerusalem during the Six-Day War.

No Coincidence

Blood moons are mentioned in scripture, including in the Book of Joel, the Book of Revelation and the Book of Acts.

"The prophet Joel writes the words, 'I, the Lord, will cause the sun not to give its light -- a solar eclipse -- and the moon will turn to blood before the great and notable day of the Lord,'" said Hagee. "Genesis 1:14 said God is using the sun, moon and stars to send signals to mankind."

"God used the stars to cause the Magi to find Jesus Christ," he continued. "Joshua, when they were in the battle of the five kings, commanded the moon and the sun to stand still for almost a day."

Hagee believes the current tetrad of blood moons -- coming during Jewish feasts while Israel's enemies are on the march -- is no coincidence.

"The evidence is very clear Scripturally that God controls the sun, moon and stars," he said. "And that God is sending us a signal through the sun, the moon and the stars. The question is, are we listening?"

Blood Moons Film: 'The Heavens Are God's Billboard' - John Hagee

Blood Moons Film: 'The Heavens Are God's Billboard'

In a cinematic one-night event, Pastor John Hagee's best-selling book, Four Blood Moons, is slated to hit theaters this month.
Through the lens of scripture, science, and history, the big-screen production will examine the significance of the blood moons cycle for Israel, the Middle East, and the rest of the world.
"The heavens are 'God's billboard.' He's been sending signals to earth, and we haven't been picking them up," Hagee said.
"Two blood moons, in 2014 and 2015, point to dramatic events in the Middle East and, as a result, changes in the whole world," he said.
CBN's Erick Stakelbeck, who spoke to Hagee last year about his book, also makes an appearance in the movie.
Four Blood Moons is scheduled to open March 23. For more information, visit the film's website.

Mideast on the Brink: Can US-Israeli Bond Survive? - CBN News Senior Editor John Waage and Terrorism Analyst Erick Stakelbeck

Mideast on the Brink:
Can US-Israeli Bond Survive?

Dangerous events in Israel and the Middle East at large are challenging American and Israeli leaders.

A recent Hezbollah attack that killed two Israeli soldiers on the Lebanese border could escalate into a wider war between the terrorist group and the Jewish State.

The death of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is creating instability in one of America's strongest allies in the region, and the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is threatening to bring death and destruction to neighboring countries.

How are Israel and America responding to the many crises shaking the region and why is the Obama administration working to see Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defeated in upcoming elections?

CBN News Senior Editor John Waage and Terrorism Analyst Erick Stakelbeck share their insight. Watch the interview.

Rally: Is the World Leading Up to Another Holocaust? - CBN News

Rally: Is the World Leading Up to Another Holocaust?

WASHINGTON -- Former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and conservative group Concerned Women for America joined forces to sponsor a "Stand with Israel" rally on Capitol Hill Sunday.
CWA's president Penny Nance kicked off the rally explaining how it was birthed last year while she was in Israel. She came to see why it's important to support the Jewish nation today as it faces enemies who want to wipe it out.
Just after visiting Jerusalem's Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, she asked herself if she would have supported Jews during World War II when they also faced the threat of extinction.
"If I had been alive during the Holocaust, what would I have done?" Nance told the rally crowd. "Would I have been one of those people, one of those Christians, who just turned away and turned a blind eye to the evil that was right before me?"
Many of the speakers at the rally pointed out that supporting Israel is certainly a moral choice. But they also insisted it's in America's own best interest because if Israel's enemies ever succeed in destroying it, they'll then turn all their guns on America and the West.
Huckabee said he believes God will save Israel from destruction, but ISIS, Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iran still want to wipe it out. He warned they wouldn't stop there.
"Do you honestly think that if they were to achieve that, that they would say, 'Well, that's it. We're done?'" Huckabee asked.
"Israel isn't the ultimate target. We are. Let us never forget it," he admonished the crowd gathered on Capitol Hill.
CBN Terrorism Analyst Erick Stakelbeck talked about how Iran is developing ICBM missiles that will be able to cross oceans by 2015. He explained why this Persian superpower that's threatened to destroy nearby Israel needs intercontinental missile.
"Israel is the little Satan, a bump on the road to the Great Satan -- us. Their words, not mine," Stakelbeck said of the Iranian leaders and their fellow radicals. "So if you think you can ignore ISIS, ignore Iran, and leave Israel to its own devices, you're sadly mistaken."
CWA also wanted to demonstrate that there are many young concerned women for Israel. They brought three of them to the podium.
One was Raquel Minka, a Baltimore Jew in her 20s who when she heard this July there was to be an anti-Israel protest in her neighborhood, organized a counter-rally. It ended up having hundreds more participants than the anti-Israel protest.
To Minka, this struggle is personal.
"My grandparents were Holocaust survivors. They fought the fight," she told CBN News. "My dad is a wounded IDF [Israel Defense Forces] veteran. He fought the fight. And now I'm doing the same. I'm taking it upon myself to also fight."
Bill Kristol, founder and editor of The Weekly Standard, is acknowledged as one of the most vocal and ardent neo-conservatives, who advocates an activist American military presence in the world.
Before taking the stage at the rally, Kristol told CBN News it's essential America both ensure Israel's survival and stand in the Middle East and fight.
"We know what a world without Israel and with an America that's weak and withdrawn looks like," he said. "And that's the world of 1939 -- 75 years ago. And that's a world that leads to a world war, and that's a world that leads to a Holocaust."
Kristol said President Barack Obama's non-interventionism has led to worse outcomes than George W. Bush's much-maligned interventionism.
"Almost 200,000 dead in Syria. ISIS on the rampage. Iran close to nuclear weapons: it's unbelievably dangerous for Israel; it's unbelievably dangerous for us," Kristol said, surveying the present crises.
"If Iran gets nuclear weapons, that's a threat to Israel. But it's a threat to the U.S., too," he continued. "So I think we are seeing how dangerous the world can be when America, unfortunately, looks weak."

Cash for Killers: US Funding Palestinian Terrorists? By Erick Stakelbeck CBN News Correspondent

Cash for Killers: US Funding Palestinian Terrorists?

Obama administration officials have praised Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas as someone with whom Israel can do business.

Yet he recently chose to do business with those committed to Israel's destruction.

Abbas struck a deal with Hamas making the U.S.-designated terror group part of a united Palestinian government.

Although that unity deal may soon be dead following Hamas's alleged kidnapping of three Israeli teenagers, Abbas's initial embrace of the terror outfit raised serious questions about his commitment to peace.

Financing the Flames

"Peace doesn't have a chance because peace doesn't pay," said award-winning investigative journalist Edwin Black. "Because anytime that they want some income, all they've got to do is commit an act of terrorism."

In his latest book, Financing the Flames, the New York Timesbestselling author details how the Palestinian Authority rewards terrorists who have killed Israelis.

"As soon as a terrorist commits an act of terrorism against an innocent civilian in Israel -- whether that's cutting the throat of a child or stabbing a man standing at a bus or blowing up a building," Black said. "As soon as that man does that, he goes on a special salary from the Palestinian Authority, under Palestinian law -- a law known as the Law of the Prisoner."

The more Israelis killed, the bigger the financial reward.

"He gets a graduated salary depending on how heinous the crime is," Black continued. "If he kills five people and gets five years, he gets one salary. If he kills double that number and gets double the sentence, he gets double the salary. And so this actually incentivizes the misery, mayhem, and carnage that the terrorists commit."

Black told CBN News this is a long held policy. He spent time on the ground interviewing Israeli and Palestinian officials and found that the PA does not hide this cash-for-killers program.

"There's an entire ministry, called the Palestinian Ministry of Prisoners, that actually oversees the distribution of this money and there is its counterpart in the civilian sector known as the Prisoner's Club," Black explained.

"Now this money constitutes some of the best salaries in the Palestinian Authority," he continued. "So you can literally go from poverty to wealth in the Palestinian Authority by committing an act of terrorism."

"This amounts to about 6 percent of the Palestinian budget," he said. "This money is paid on a priority basis. You can make as much as $3,000 or $4,000 a month while in prison just for committing this act of terrorism."

US Footing the Bill?

According to Black, some of the money can be tracked back to American taxpayers because the U.S. currently provides $400 million per year to the Palestinian Authority.

"There's a law against any of our money benefitting terrorism," Black said. "But in point of fact, approximately 6 percent of all the money we fund to the Palestinian Authority is probably diverted by them to fund terrorists' salaries."

"The money comes. It goes right to the prisoner. The prisoner signs a P.O.A. -- a power of attorney. He transmits that money to his bank account, to his lawyer, to his girlfriend, to his family, to his mother, to his organization," he explained.

"And this is the system we have in place. Our State Department knows it. Our administration knows it," Black told CBN News.

In the wake of Abbas's deal with Hamas, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., introduced legislation that would cut funding to the Palestinian Authority.

The Obama administration, however, plans to continue engaging the PA -- meaning more terrorist salaries paid for, in part, by U.S. taxpayers.

"They would rather starve than see their prisoners, who are their heroes, go without remuneration for the acts of violence that they have committed against innocent civilians, homes, buses, trains," said Black. "It's an astonishment. And I think it's time for America to wake up."

Divine Sign for Israel? Hagee Explains Blood Moons - Erick Stakelbeck, CBN News

Divine Sign for Israel? Hagee Explains Blood Moons

SAN ANTONIO -- The Book of Genesis says God uses the sun, moon, and stars for signs and seasons. Examples can be found throughout the Bible.

Think of how a star led the wise men to Jesus or how the sun stood still as Joshua led Israel to victory over its enemies.

According to Pastor John Hagee, God is getting ready to speak this way once again.

"There's a sense in the world that things are changing and God is trying to communicate with us in a supernatural way," Hagee told CBN News.

"I believe that in these next two years, we're going to see something dramatic happen in the Middle East involving Israel that will change the course of history in the Middle East and impact the whole world," he predicted.

Four Blood Moons

In his latest book, Four Blood Moons: Something Is About to Change, Hagee lays out what he calls celestial signals. He describes how a series of blood moons in 2014 and 2015 will have great significance for Israel.

Although single blood moons happen fairly regularly, four appearing so closely together is extremely rare. There have only been a series of blood moons a handful of times over the past 500 years.

So what exactly is a blood moon and what is the biblical significance?

"A blood moon is when the Earth comes between the sun and the moon," Hagee explained. "And the sun is shining through the atmosphere of the Earth and casts up on the moon a red shadow. And so the moon appears to be red."

Such moons appear several times in scripture.

In the book of Joel, God says there will be "wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire…the sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord."

In Acts, the Apostle Peter repeats that verse from Joel. And the book of Revelation says that during the Great Tribulation, "the moon will become like blood."

Blood moons are set to appear in April 2014, on Passover, and then again in September 2014 during the Feast of Tabernacles, or Sukkot.

The timing is the same for 2015 -- a total of four blood moons, all appearing on Jewish feast days.

"The sun and the moon and the Earth are controlled by God almighty," Hagee said. "He is the one that is getting them in a direct alignment on a certain day at a certain time -- but each time, it's a Passover or Sukkot.

Historic Significance

In the past, the rare appearance of four blood moons on these feast days has coincided with major events for Israel and the Jewish people.

In 1492, Spain expelled the Jews. Columbus also discovered America, which became a safe haven for the Jewish people.

"In each of these blood moons, you have something that begins in tragedy and ends in triumph," Hagee explained.

For instance, in 1948, Israel was reborn as a nation.

"After 2,000 years, God supernaturally brought them from 66 nations and a nation was born in a day," Hagee noted. "That again was a supernatural something that happened following the tragedy of the Holocaust."

In 1967, Israel won the Six-Day War and recaptured Jerusalem.

"For the first time in 2,000 years, Jerusalem and the State of Israel were together again," Hagee said.

Nuclear Threat

The blood moons of 2014 and 2015 are poised to appear as Iran works toward nuclear weapons and Israel's neighbors, Egypt and Syria, are in chaos.

"The only reason that Iran will not acquire a nuclear bomb will be that Israel chooses a military solution to that crisis," Hagee told CBN News.

"I believe that if that happens, it will start a series of events that will change the course of world history," he said. "If Israel does not, then it will still change the course of world history."

Hagee has been warning of the Iranian nuclear threat through his work with Christians United for Israel, which he founded in 2006. It is now the largest pro-Israel organization in America, with some 1.3 million members.

He holds nights to honor Israel across the country and at San Antonio's Cornerstone Church, where he serves as senior pastor. The first event, in 1981, drew bomb threats and vandalism from anti-Semites.

Yet Hagee continues his mission.

"If there was ever a time for the Christians of America to stiffen their spine and stand up and speak up, it's now," Hagee admonished. "To see evil and not call it evil is evil. Not to speak is to speak. We cannot be silent and receive God's approval at a time like this."

He said it's still unclear what the coming blood moons will bring, but he is certain of one thing.

"When all is said and done, the flag of Israel will be flying over the walls of the city of Jerusalem when Messiah comes, and it's going to be forever," he said. "And every nation that rises up in judgment against Israel God will punish and punish severely."

Netanyahu Thanks Christians at CUFI Summit

Netanyahu Thanks Christians at CUFI Summit
CBN News

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked thousands of Christians meeting in Washington, D.C., for supporting Israel.

Netanyahu addressed the Christians United for Israel (CUFI) conference by satellite from Jerusalem.
"The bad news is that numbers count and we are a small people," Netanyahu told the crowd. "The good news is that Israel is not alone -- it has your support," he said.

The group held its seventh annual summit at the Washington Convention Center.

CUFI is the largest pro-Israel organization in America, with more than 1 million members.
The event attracted pro-Israel lawmakers, like Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn, who had harsh words for the Obama administration.

"Without being partisan, this is the first administration where our commitment to Israel has ever even been questioned. That cannot stand because Americans stand by Israel," she said.

Cornerstone Church founding Pastor John Hagee, who established CUFI in 2006 and serves as its national chairman, told participants, "Those of you in this audience who stand in solidarity with Israel and the Jewish people, give a rousing shout of support that can be heard in Jerusalem, in Iran, and all the way to the White House."

CBN News terrorism analyst Erick Stakelbeck was one of the featured speakers at the CUFI conference. And CBN President Michael Little emceed Tuesday's dinner celebration
