The Stewardship of Generosity - Morris Ruddick

Morris Ruddick

The Stewardship of Generosity

Never has there been a time that I have been more conscious of the presence spoken of in Hebrews regarding that great cloud of witnesses. With it has been the awareness of potent, penetrating prayer amassing from every corner of the globe. It’s the context for a great mobilization and with the mobilization, the restoration of the maturity, power and the gifts evidenced in the early Church. Of those gifts, I’d like to unwrap one that is often shrouded or put on back-burner, but represents ties to unlocking so many other gifts, not to speak of its power to fuel community. I’m speaking of generosity.

Generosity is one of those subtle things. You’ll miss its significance, if not alert and paying attention. Or ignore its importance maybe because it can seem like a duty or be hindered by the subtleties of materialism. But it’s a glue that adheres with an influence that bleeds into so many other spiritual dimensions for both individuals and the community.

To better understand the gift of generosity, we need a better grasp of “righteousness.” One of the more profound insights from the Jewish roots to the faith comes from the Hebrew translation of the word “righteousness.’ “The Hebrew word is tz’dakah. Correctly translated, tz’dakah actually means righteous charity or charitable righteousness. It is a community dynamic with the implication that on the first order of things that righteousness is derived from helping others, especially the less fortunate. Around the world, synagogues contain a “tz’dakah” offering box, a proactive means of generosity for the less fortunate.

The book of Deuteronomy warns against being stingy and taking responsibility in looking out for and helping those who may have a need. The principle of gleaning for example. When harvesting crops, gleaning insures that something is left for the less fortunate, who follow the harvester to “glean” for themselves.

Long before the Torah was given, Abram returned from his rescue of Lot and the defeat of Chedorlaomer …. and with the blessing of the high priest Melkizadek in defeating his enemies, Abram gave him a tenth of the spoils. So generosity has a direct tie to sharing from increase, from God’s blessing with His hand upon us.

Proverbs punctuates the responsibility and benefits in business between righteousness and generosity.
“The lips of the righteous feed many. The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.” Proverbs 10: 21-22.

Jesus summed up these truths when He admonished us to: “Give and it will be given unto you; good measure, pressed down and shaken over.” And then Paul’s wisdom: “As you sow, so shall you reap.”

Reflecting the Fruits of the Spirit
God’s character is to create and bring multiplication, but his nature is in giving. In seeking His blessing, is it not his benevolence and generosity? In being reflectors of God, who are made in His image, the character of the godly takes on dimensions or fruits of His nature defined by Paul to the Galatians: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Church tradition identifies 12 fruits of the spirit, incorporating generosity and charity into the 9 that Paul described. So, in the same way that the character of the godly is shaped and defined by tz’dakah, that is charitable righteousness, it reflects the impact in attitude and behavior that these fruits of the Spirit have on them.

The Deeper Dimensions of the Gifts
Yet, with these fruits comes deeper dimensions, or what Paul defines as specific gifts that shape the personality and motivations of the individual believer in the way they think, behave and relate to others. These are outlined in 1 Corinthians 12:28: servers, prophetic, givers, teachers, exhorters, mercy and leaders. In most cases, a believer will have a dominant gift and a secondary one. In some cases, the dominant gift can be a balanced combination of two. How each operates is described on my web-site at www.strategic-initiatives.org/spiritual=gifts.

The Gift of Giving
In taking a closer look at the stewardship of generosity, it is insightful to begin by examining the gift of the Spirit of the Giver. Givers are ones who sense God’s heart where needs are concerned. Combined with their other gifts, Givers break the mold of the status quo. They tend toward being creative or leaders and sometimes both; which ties into their response to fixing situations that are due to the lack of resources. Givers can be very effective entrepreneurs and more frequently are. In many instances, they will take great joy in giving without the need for credit. Yet in others, simple appreciation is important to them.

Givers represent the gold-standard in terms of generosity within the community. Incorporated in the gift of giving is a high-level of faith and trust in God. But with their level of faith will be risk, but risk calculated with wisdom.
“The generous soul will be made rich and he waters will himself be watered.” Prov 10:25

Those with a genuine gift of giving are almost always recognized by the higher ratios of their income that they give. They more typically prove to be good planners, as they envision things as they potentially could be. Without drawing attention to themselves, they are strongly inclined in assuming responsibility.

The Gift Activated by Individuals
With the gift of giving or generosity, comes an added dimension. It taps into the very heart of God to create and bring increase. Because of that, simultaneously, it represents something of a trigger in terms of its activation of the nature of God for the individual giver. The Psalmist captures this means of activating God’s nature with the words: “With the faithful, You will show Yourself faithful. With the blameless man, You will show Yourself blameless. With the pure, You will show Yourself pure. With the devious, You will show Yourself shrewd. For you will save the humble people, but bring down haughty looks. For You will light my lamp, the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.” Ps 18:25-28

The Parallel When the Fruit Flows in Community
So it can be, and far more, when the fruit and stewardship of generosity is operating strongly within the community.

In much the same way that we need a more complete grasp of the word “righteousness,” so we also need a broader mind-set regarding our part in and response to community. Indeed it begins and includes our interactions and responsibilities with our local congregation.

Activating Community Identity
But the reality is that the community of the household of faith is a cultural factor that should define and support not only our faith, but our character, priorities and prayer-focus. It is a cultural factor that in today’s world carries global ramifications. It should be the defining factor in terms of our identity, along with an overriding influence in our life-purpose. It should be the defining factor in those we choose as our inner circle.

With those thoughts in mind, let us reach for the standard expressed in Hebrews:
“Therefore we must give more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.” Hebrews 2:1

The Litmus Test of Community Maturity
The stewardship of generosity within the community represents a strong litmus test of its spiritual maturity. While many are guided by the rigors of religious practices, the prophet Isaiah, called for a higher standard.

In the same manner, Jesus rebuked the Pharisees (Matt 23:23) for their fetish in following the rules, while missing their intent, using as an example their adherence to the tithe while totally missing the more important matters of justice, mercy and faithfulness.

Isaiah’s higher standard in the 58th chapter taps this same truth. It captures what can move the heart of God when the tz’daka is exercised in the community. He begins with a rebuke targeting leaders who set the standard in the community, those engaging in religious practices to curry God’s favor, while being blind to their intent …. for example, in exploiting their hired labor; for their inclination for strife and debate.

He reveals that to make your voice heard on High begins with humility. It requires getting beyond the blind spots to address loosing the bonds of wickedness, undoing the heavy burdens, breaking every yoke and letting the oppressed go free.

It will involve sharing your bread with the hungry, reaching out to the hungry, poor and afflicted; clothing the naked and not hiding yourself from your own flesh and blood. It is ridding yourself of pointing the finger in scorn and bad-mouthing. In other words, it gives focus to taking on the benevolence of God in being a genuine blessing by reaching out as a giver.

The response from on High in doing so is dramatic. It not only addresses untenable circumstances …. “then your light will dawn in the darkness and the darkness will be as noonday” …. but it incorporates an unusual ability, through community that will bear on how you are recognized as a people …. “You shall build tho old waste places, raising the foundations of many generations. You will be called the repairers of the breach, the restorers of streets to dwell in.”

In short, Isaiah’s admonition was to grasp God’s perspective and respond as He would …. with compassion, holiness and respect for one another and the sacredness of His Sabbath.

Community Stewardship and Generosity
In a world divided, deceived and confused, there exists those who are searching for a people who demonstrate the reality of God in their midst. This demonstration of God manifests strongly through community stewardship. Stewardship operates on both an individual and a community-level. It employs three key elements: giving, managing and bringing increase. Recognizing God as your source, in simple terms it begins with the giving or sowing of your seed, then managing its growth, to then again in faith looking to God to bring the increase …. giving, managing and bringing increase.

So it has been, that the biblical strategy to affliction, oppression and poverty is the community standard of righteous charity, tz’dakah combined with small business development. Jewish tradition holds that the highest form of tz’dakah is to help someone start a business. There are Jewish communities in Israel with such networks of tz’dakah that virtually no one is homeless or hungry.

Such is the stewardship of generosity, that can be found within community that the world seeks.

On an even higher scale, Joseph the Patriarch was a forerunner of recovery when the household of faith had become spiritually blinded from the standard of tz’dakah and the mantle of his people to the world. Using the resources entrusted to him, Joseph became the gifted administrator of one of the biggest series of tz’dakah benevolence and rescues outlined in Scripture.

In passing into this current season, as the community of the household of faith progresses into the place of maturity, the recovery of this dynamic of tz’dakah and the stewardship of giving will be in great evidence as leaders set the example and the gates open for a free-flow of the Spirit’s power. Not unlike the days of the early Church, it will deeply penetrate and impact cultures around the earth. There was a reason the prophet Zecharish envisioned a time when ten men would plead with a Jew to take them with him because they had seen God operating in his midst.

Paralleling the spiritual backlash experienced by the early Church, all this will be within the context of the disruptions, turmoil and conflict described by Daniel, Jesus and John the Revelator. Yet,at the forefront of this movement will be modern-day Josephs and Daniels restoring community standards and influencing state-level leaders in this mobilization of resources. Of significance in this great awakening will be the response and alliances of key global segments of this movement with Israel. Bearing the fulfillment of Isaiah 60 with the abundance of the seas and the wealth of the Gentiles being directed to the Light manifesting in the Land of Promise.

God of the Breakthrough - Steve Martin, Love For His People Ministry

God of the Breakthrough

“…David defeated them there. Then David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand like a breakthrough of water.” 1 Chronicles 14:11, NKJV

During a recent church gathering, as the worship time proceeded with praise and declarations, I envisioned the Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ, sitting on His heavenly throne, extremely aware of what was going on in all the earth. He wasn’t passive. He wasn’t asleep. He wasn’t sitting idly by uninvolved in the matters of men and women on the earth. He was passionately watching and waiting.

Then He arose from His seat, and as He did I saw what looked like bombs exploding in different nations of the world. He Himself was the One directing them. He was sending breakthroughs.

And then He roared, as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah would do, further establishing the breakthroughs in the countries.

Breakthrough from lockdowns. Breakthroughs from lockups. Breakthroughs in sickness, drought, weariness, depression, suicidal thoughts, abandonment.

Breakthroughs from obstructive governments, controlling politicians, authoritarian rules and regulations.

He is the God of the breakthrough.

In the late ‘90s Rob Critchley of the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship came to lead worship at our three-day conference here in Charlotte, North Carolina. He delivered a very powerful song I believe he had written, entitled I Will Call Upon the Name of the Lord (God of the Breakthrough)Proclaiming the truth of calling on the Lord for deliverance, release, and breakthrough, we knew of His promises to come through as we did so.

What an encouragement it is to know that our God, the Creator of the Universe, is acting on our behalf to bring the breakthroughs we so desperately need in these times of trouble, unbelief, rampant destruction, and the onslaught of the enemy against our minds, emotions, and very being.

What a comfort it is to know that we can call upon the Name of the Lord, the One who fights on our behalf, the One who delivers us and brings the breakthrough we long for in these last days.

“O Lord, truly I am Your servant; I am Your servant, the son of Your maidservant; You have loosed my bonds. I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord.” Psalm 116:16-17, NKJV

Call upon the Name of the Lord, Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, and He will draw near to you. Call upon the Name of the Lord, seek His face, trust in His love, faithfulness, and courage, to see Him overcome that which keeps you from walking in freedom and fruitfulness.

Our God is bringing the breakthroughs as we actively call upon His Name. He is releasing the captives, those held in bondage, from that which keeps them from knowing His deliverance and victory. He is the mighty Warrior.

“The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is His name. Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea; and the choicest of his officers are drowned in the Red Sea. “The deeps cover them; they went down into the depths like a stone. Your right hand, O Lord, is majestic in power, Your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy. And in the greatness of Your excellence You overthrow those who rise up against You;” Exodus 15:3-7, NASU

“The Lord will go forth like a warrior, He will arouse His zeal like a man of war. He will utter a shout, yes, He will raise a war cry. He will prevail against His enemies.” Isaiah 42:13, NASU

Call upon the Name of the Lord every day. He is the God of our breakthrough.

Overcoming Weariness - Steve Martin, Love For His People Ministry

Overcoming Weariness

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14, NASB

We all experience weariness. In our body. In our soul. In our spirit. There just are days when it is hard to press on, to keep the chin up, to not quit in the midst of battle. It just is that way.

Jesus Himself experienced weariness. He understood it, becoming man Himself, and did what was necessary to keep His face looking forward, to press on. He knew He needed proper rest, and took time away from the others to spend with His Father, to be re-energized and uplifted.

Paul grew weary many times as he walked out his calling. He described in several writings how he battled against the naysayers, the ungodly, the ones who even among the brethren questioned his legitimacy after he turned from being a Christian hater to becoming a Christ-follower.

Standing for truth in an ever-increasing godless society certainly wears you out. Paul instructed his disciple Timothy to be watchful of this as he wrote to him, “Be on guard against him yourself, for he vigorously opposed our teaching.” 2 Timothy 4:115, NASB Upholding the truth takes courage, knowledge, and boldness if we are to be overcomers for the truth.

Paul let us know that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, as it is spiritual warfare that we face daily. There are times when the cost of pushing forward, as many in sports and military arenas so often do, takes strength and continual output of effort in order to get the victory.

I recall as we prepared for the high school football season, we had to endure three practices a day in the hot August heat, to get our bodies and minds ready for the upcoming games. Though others certainly experience far more in their weeks and months of preparation, it helped bring to me the understanding that you won’t be able to put up a good fight if you do not prepare in advance.

Be it preparation of the mind, soul, or spirit, we must do what it takes to be ready for the action that is promised to come and it many cases already here. No one goes to battle without properly being made ready. No success will ever come without it.

As believers in the Lord Jesus, and ones called to be the warriors resisting the enemy and his attempts to take away all that the Lord has given us, we will need to fight even against weariness and all that seeks to bring us down.

We must be faithful in practicing the disciplines of the Christian faith. Prayer. Bible reading. Fellowship with other believers. Teaching is received for training, encouragement, and renewed hope for what we believe in. All necessary to sustain the long journey.

The days indeed are getting darker, but our Bible confirms that we are the victors as we stand with our King in His rule and government.

Be encouraged. Do not grow weary in the fight. Be renewed as the hope within us brings strength to endure to the very end.

Surviving the Hamas Massacre - The Rosenberg Report

The Recovery of All Things - Morris Ruddick

The Recovery of All Things

When everything changes. When the turbulence near and afar takes on proportions not seen in a lifetime. When the voices that define and determine the realities begin calling black white and white black, it is time to look beyond into the foundations in which we understand the times and know what to do.

Let’s view at least a snapshot of the foundations.

In the beginning God’s highest creation, the one He made as a reflection of Himself, had an identity and a purpose. That identity was entwined in his Creator. The purpose was to take dominion, to subdue and tame the earth while walking with God. That task came with being clothed in His glory with the anointing and authority of living in His presence. That oneness and being a reflector of His Presence was lost at the fall. Then, as time progressed, there came the confrontation and challenge from the infiltration of wayward spiritual beings into God’s creation …. as the pathway of man’s identity and purpose faced a still greater hurdle as wickedness began to prevail in the earth.

So it has been that from ages past there have been times in which the reality of the dark side of the spiritual world has begun penetrating, amassing and overshadowing the parameters that make up the natural world.Indeed at the time of the fall, but then with the days of the Nephilim and the days of Noah, when wickedness began to run so rampant that God sent the flood.

Yet, there is nothing new under the sun. Today, the reemerging of these age-old challenges are just the awakening needed for the godly to face the realities.

It has been during such days, who you listen to and in whom you put your trust has proven critical. Even within the household of faith. At the time David was made king over all Israel, he very wisely turned to a small tribe of Israelites, Isaachar, gifted with a track record of being able to understand the times to know what to do. Their gift wisely tapped the depths of God and the spiritual, in order to interpret and discern the wisest steps needed in the natural.

For such a time as this, do we need this gifted understanding. We need to discern what is real and what is a lie. It is not unlike the days of Hitler when his chief weapon was control of the communication system and his avowed chief strategy in what was labeled the “big lie.’ In short, the strategy was to present something so preposterous, that people would tend to believe it.

It’s a culture-shaping thing. And culture is both the target and the solution.

We need the gifted understanding of Isaachar to ward off the division, especially within our own ranks that comes from being persuaded by untruths …. not to speak of keeping our eyes keenly focused on what is and Who is Truth.

During the mid-90s I began discerning and writing about such times and the rise of modern day Josephs and Daniels. Leaders with prophetic wisdom and influence who discerned the spiritual realities who would be voices in keeping God’s people together and keeping them safe. A time of unusual strategic alliances that would serve God’s higher purposes in the overall scheme of things. Voices and alliances that fostered God’s plans for the recovery of all things. I was not alone in recognizing these realities, but the discerning voices at the time were few.

Again, with the release from on High of an anointing and momentum tied to the recovery of all things.

The Atmosphere, Anointing and Authority
Parenthetically, within my lifetime, there have been communities that have so come together in the Lord that it has impacted the spiritual atmosphere to the degree that the growth of crops has become dramatically more fruitful. The key word is fruitful …. the very word God spoke in creating man: “be fruitful and multiply.” Along with creativity, the same purpose of multiplying was originally given to God’s highest creation.

This more recent example of enhanced fruitfulness with crops was realized due to the community being in complete unity. Unity in identity and purpose.

Yet this dynamic has been in dramatic evidence in other areas over the years within the Jewish community …. whose practice of community is on a far deeper and more biblical level than that generally found among most Christian communities. That Israel has become known as “the startup nation.” That the trickle-down from community has resulted in the amazing track record of leadership in influence, innovation, inventions and social, business and technology progress.

To illustrate, Jews have been awarded 27 percent of all Nobel prizes since 1950, following the destruction of a third of their population in the Holocaust. The Encyclopedia Britannica has a section on “Great Inventions.” Jews have accounted for the defibrillator, the pacemaker, instant photography, holography and the videotape.

Steven Pease’s research, “The Golden Age of Jewish Achievement”, notes that of Fortune’s 2003 list of the 25 most powerful people in business, 24 percent were Jewish. Jews pioneered the ready-to-wear garment industry. Over half the department stores in America were started or run by Jews. Specialty retailing is laced with names that have been created by Jews: Gap, Limited, Men’s Warehouse, Home Depot, Ritz Camera, Bed Bath & Beyond.

Jews are dominant in diamonds and the diamond trade. Starbucks in coffee, Haagen-Daz and Baskin Robbins in ice cream, Fairmont, Lowes, Hyatt, Helmsley and Wynn in hotels are all Jewish operations, along with the creating and shaping of every major Hollywood studio. In the major TV networks, only ABC was not started by a Jew. The legacy extends to cable, to publishing, finance and real estate.

The world’s most successful search engine (Google) and software (Microsoft) are Jewish creations. The second largest software company (Oracle) has a co-founder and head who is Jewish. So it has been with Dell, Intel, Yahoo, eBay and Qualcomm.

This dynamic is in large part a reflection of Jewish culture which embraces and adheres to community and the biblical parameters tied to their operation of community. It is a distinct reflection of the community unity dynamic impacting the spiritual atmosphere and releasing the dimensions of creativity and multiplication …. bearing on the anointing and authority lost at the garden.

Recovery, Israel and the Church
In taking a deeper look, from God’s perspective, of this dynamic of recovery it is revealing to note the recovery dynamics for Israel and for the Church that have coincided since the birth of the State of Israel. In the same time frame (1947-1948) that Israel once again became a nation, there were 240 healing ministries birthed in the US alone. Sovereignly, the Holy Spirit was restoring power to the Church.

Then this parallel happened again in 1967 when Jerusalem was restored to Israel, which at that time marked the beginning of not only the Charismatic revival with the cross denominational foundation of believers spontaneously meeting in prayer that saw dramatic results, but the birth of the Messianic Jewish movement …. a major factor in this process, not the least of which has been exposing the Church to the depths of its lost Jewish roots.

So it is as Israel engages in war with clamoring voices resounding against it, that another outpouring of Holy Spirit is anticipated …. that will birth a movement mobilizing, creating strategy and releasing leaders like Joseph and Daniel, along with birthing unusual strategy alliances …. and from God’s perspective doing so toward the goal of the recovery of all things.

The Recovery Dynamic
The recovery of all things entails embracing God’s priorities from God’s perspective. That is far more than the grasp of doctrinal parameters …. but rather discernment and adherence of the big picture that brings disparate groups together, not unlike the time Israel was faced with the costs of declaring themselves a nation.

The recovery of all things will incorporate conflict and disruptions …. wars and rumors of wars. Jesus described it well in Matthew 24. There will be an increase of lawlessness, persecution, betrayals, along with false prophets and imposters. As Jesus related: “Just as in the days of Noah.” That was a time with wickedness coming out of the closet which was pretty raw and rugged.

The recovery of all things means penetrating the darkness with God’s Light. Daniel foresaw it with the description “In the time of the end, many will be purified and refined, and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand” …. then “but the wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky and lead many to righteousness.” These are words from the man whose anointing and authority resulted in the most powerful man in the world being led to righteousness.

It is instructive to realize from the Book of Enoch, that the Light that Enoch bore was such that the dark forces bowed before him and came to him to intercede with God for mercy. Scripture only reveals that Enoch walked with God and then was no more because God had taken him. Yet, like Elijah, his walk and anointing was such that he foiled death.

The passage into this phase of the recovery of all things is underway. We can expect anointings and authority to match the challenges to God and His people, now manifesting around the earth.

Embracing the Challenges
Jesus gave us all that was required for the recovery and restoration. It is significant to remember that the early Church was a Jewish sect …. with the commitment and power that scripture tells us that non-believers were asking: “who are these, who are turning the world upside down.”

Unfortunately, this movement …. that’s a key word in this matter of recovery …. this movement lost its momentum and potency from what it had in its early days, as it morphed into an institution; as its Jewish roots and the associated community practices became lost or muddled …. along with its power. However, we are now speaking about a sovereign move of the Holy Spirit …. with a movement having as its spearhead: the recovery of all things.

It is important to keep in mind that this is a culture thing: a Kingdom culture thing. As already noted, culture is both the target and the solution. Understanding the conflict on this level is a requisite to the thinking required to respond strategically and with the combined anointing and authority that takes the offense and makes a difference.

While the role of the West has been and is important and will continue to be…. there will be mobilizations and alliances that can be expected from the persecuted segments of the believing world, as well as regions emerging from extended times of oppression. An increasingly greater manifestation of Isaiah 60.
“For darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples, but the Lord will arise upon you and His glory be seen upon you.” Isaiah 60:2

The unique parallels noted between what God has been doing in advancing Israel and unique moves of the Holy Spirit in the church will draw from and give greater activation to the dimensions restored to the church in 1948 and 1967 …. the supernatural power and cross denominational prayer …. along with initiatives of restoring the Jewish roots to the faith, embracing the full potency of true biblical community …. all of which will combine in setting in motion powerful strategic alliances that will serve as tipping points in this process.

This movement with the recovery of all things at its core will not be unlike the time that all the disparate groups in Israel came together as one and became a nation. That means the focus will increasingly be on the realities of the big picture and from the efforts of the Joseph-Daniels, to key emerging remnants, to the strategic alliances between cultural amassings …. into a movement that will penetrate, advance and increase to what Daniel foresaw with those who bring many to righteousness shining as the stars.

The passage into the recovery of all times is underway. For such a time as this have we been and are being prepared and called. With Israel the pivot point in God’s priorities along with the rise of these chosen, prepared leaders who will influence key gamechangers will be the amassing of communities of influence, many from what scripture refers to as the least of our brethren, with the preparation needed to counter the inroads made by darkness into the world’s infrastructures.
